Yeah, Not sure we'd be able to put more seats in, (istr there's an issue with the residents of Alton Rd), but just going at the ground would help. Rip down all the crappy signage, give it a decent paint job, just make it look less of a dump, wouldn't hurt. Of course, we'll be at UWE in a few months after that...

I will ask my mate, Derek, if he can give us a quote. Last time I saw him he was running around in a Batman outfit with his brother. Should have finished with that and have some time spare now.

I'd agree, that plenty of the steel work at the Mem needs rust removed and repainting.
In these days of Risk Assessments and Employers Liability I can't see it, but it was what we did to make Twerton habitable.

What would stop the club building a decent stand to replace the tent and taking it round to the west enclosure a low level stand would make that end and side look a lot better .and also carry on with the roof structure from the blackthorn to the east stand . Or they still going to hold out for a deal from sains###ys for the UWE

If we do get some compo off Sainsburys, it wouldn't cost a lot to build a low level terrace along the south end for away support, and extend the East stand completely the length of the pitch get 3 extra blocks and full terrace below, with no segregation, would chuck at least another 5K on enough for starters.

I wrote to the club 2 seasons ago and sent in photos of the rust that was flaking on top of us while standing in the West enclosure. I offered to get a few lads to paint it as long as the club provided the cherry pickers and trestles. I know it was daft but there is still some goodwill to make the place look better. It's a shame that the club have let the men literally rot away & putting all into the mythical UWE. At the end of the day, the Mem is still the clubs main asset and no one should let it rot, as we have

Hi fellow gasheads, regular reader of the forums but my first ever post.
Regarding the OP. I have been thinking about the need for smartening up the Mem for a while, although its not the best stadium around and the facilities are below what we all expect in our everyday life (not least attending football matches)It have started to reflect the clubs non league status, It have been left to became shabby, run down and disorganised.
The club have told us for many years now that we are not going to spend money on the stadium, as we were either redeveloping the Mem or moving to UWE. But Mem redevelop plans were approved in 2007 some eight years ago, UWE looks either dead in the water or the best case scenario wont be ready for at least two/three more years.
So its time the club started to concentrate on the Mem and us paying customers, the fans. All areas of the stadium have either got portaloos, portakabins, containers and the common old garden shed, placed on any spare patch of ground, without any planning or organising with thought to its appearance or its purpose. There are a collection of fence styles(especially between the Dribuild and clubhouse old blackthorn end turnstiles) painted in many colours with no uniform appearance. The far end of the Dribuild use to have piles of grass cuttings outside the away turnstiles, not really the place for composting.
We now have a tractor parked in the corner of the Lancerscott stand and looking down into this shiplap garden fenced off area from the private boxes it resembles a farm yard. A view i experience for myself having booked a private box for the boxing day game. Therefore i would suggest this isn't the best way to to attract business or groups of fans paying good money to consider a return visit. As a previous post have mentioned, we have a collection of signage with no common style, font size or reason with a collection of instructions or guidance, fixed at random looking dead tacky.
The Mem do have some facilities, i.e clubhouse bars, private boxes and the bar/dining in the Dribuild stand but i don't think we use them to there maximum. It takes to long to get served at the bars and a system of bar some staff pulling pints while others serve, would speed up waiting time. The food outlets around the ground need to have a system of multiple queueing lanes to also speed up the service (like many other clubs use)
The food outlets also need to be repositioned, especially in the clubhouse Terrance as its total chaos, with people queueing for food and the gents toilets. A simple solution for this problem would be to put the portaloos next to the gents toilet and the food outlets where the portaloos currently stand.
We have a club shop under the Dribuild stand which because its location, cant easily be entered on match days, when it should be designed to allow easy access when its got thousands of customers mingling around outside and unable to visit the shop. This is like Sainsbury's(dirty word) telling all their customer to use the fire exit to enter their stores on Christmas eve.
After watching City play West Ham, even with their building works, their hoardings around the pitch and the presentation/marketing just made me realise how far we have let the Mem fall behind. And before some says about Lansdowns's millions (which we cant compete with) But just for comparison, it is like driving around in a new Bentley or a 2nd hand ford focus, it feels and looks so much better when its clean and tidy.
So we do need to smarten up the Mem (weather we move to UWE or not) How do we pay for this? Why not start using the fifty/fifty draw money, it has been used for other improvements, but we are lead to believe these funds are now going towards UWE, which seams a small drop in the ocean to what is needed, so use it for the Mem. If the food outlets and bars were more profitable by increasing sales(allowing for queueing lanes etc) these additional funds can be used. Also i think the club owes us loyal paying fans (customers) a big thank you and this may be the way of rewarding us (also with promotion of course)
BSS we all know you read these forums and as a fans director this the sort of thing you should be championing, with some effort and drive all what i have wrote about is achievable without massive sums spent, just good planning and organising.
Forty five years of frustration and staying quiet, so i hope the club is listening.

The stadium has no value, the land it occupies does.
The issue with the Mem isn't the capacity, its revenue, a 10k stadium with s**te facilities used every 2 weeks is pointless. Everyone likes to poke fun at UWE making us lots of extra revenue, however the principle is simple, facilities that will be used more often, by more people, for more things.
Do not underestimate the cost of painting a whole stadium! Scaffoldings, storage, welfare facilities, insurance, and obviously paint. Plus the probable outcome of a stadium that isn't rusty, but looks like a 4 year old has painted it!

The stadium has no value, ... Except while the UWE doesn't exist, it's actually priceless, to us.

Yes in theory it will generate more
The poking fun/ridicule is we are told to blindly accept it as such, despite it never being explained as to how this income is to be collected and where all this income will actually go.
As it stands, if we do build it, we are possibly going to be short a few bob. So how will that effect the income streams? Will we have to rely on a top up from a finance company and have to pay them back with interest etc, will it go back to repaying directors

Perhaps we could get some ex-players back to help us?
Craig Stanley & James Hunt could shuffle sideways along the Blackthorn End with a brush in hand?
Holloway & Devon White could run through any walls that need knocking down!
Chris Lines could fanny around a bit while creating some lovely artwork on the yellow safety areas.
And Andy Williams won't be allowed near the bar(n) doors with a paint brush!!!
Here all week........let's have some more!!!
