Arthur Holmes who played a major part in Bristol Rugby Club turning professional and negotiated with the Rovers Board in the move of BRFC to the Memorial Stadium has passed away. Geoff Dunford has written an obituary for Arthur on the club website and amongst other things states ~ "Arthur Holmes loved rugby, and loved Bristol Rugby Club. If it wasn't for his support the rugby club would have disappeared into the amateur game and Bristol Rovers would still be playing elsewhere. Sometimes history gets twisted into rumour and sub plots, but rest assured, both Bristol Rugby and Bristol Rovers have reasons to thank Arthur Holmes for being in existence today." I very much doubt that, if for no other reason interchangeable replica shirts make no commercial sense, but equally as anyone who has taken the time to research SLs career will know he does it right, isn't cheap and will deliver what his customers want...that really is the secret to his incredible financial success. If the rugby club supporters want to keep the traditional colours that's what will happen. |
