I said Balanta would be ineffective if he started, but I never expected him to be that poor! I was bemused to see Clarke to come on and it did appear we had nobody playing on the right for the rest of the game, but all's well that ends well. i was puzzled by that but reckon gateshead overloaded the centre midfield to dominate possession so dc simply did the same with mansell drifting right when needed,it worked so well done dc and the players

I'm going to have to buy Stuart Sinclair a pint of cranberry and soda tomorrow - that really was a match winning performance. Awesome 2nd half, great support but best of all super tactical work from our Manager. COYB When your done send him down to Thornbury RFC and he can have free beer for the afternoon.

Great win and the game thread made little sense until the last few posts. What a big three points that is!

Great win. This squad, and the manager, deserve credit for a great comeback. Is tonight the night we believe we can get out of this hellhole? Do the squad look fitter than previous years squads? this is a very fit rovers team and they know it which helps when the team are in trouble,,,tonight we outran gateshead over 90 mins and i remember at eastleigh running them ragged with 10 men so i think your right

Clarke admitted getting his tactics wrong and changed it at halftime from 4-4-2 to 4-3-1-2, or was it 4-2-3-1? Whatever, it made all the difference as it stopped them crowding midfield and penetrating down the flanks. The left flank in particular was wide open at times in the 1st half. Great goals, They showed Clarke's goal in slow motion from behind, what a corker. His body movement was superb as he hit it and it had a slight swerve that took it just inside the post. He watched it all the way like a javelin thrower. The other two were cracking goals too. They really stepped up to the plate second half and they'll need to repeat that in every game to bounce straight back out of this league. Going to be an exciting 2nd half to the season.

Season starts here. Good platform, here's where we start to outlast teams over 90 minutes and through until April.

Very true, but I can pretty much guarantee that during a match very soon he will be getting plenty of stick on forums(and in the ground) if we go behind in a game. It is all becoming rather tedious and I do wish people would realise a game lasts 90 minutes.

And realise that the opposition will have the ball, will win tackles, get free kicks and throw-ins during every game. Good lord, they may even have a shot at goal from time to time. This is what happens. What some people expect I don't know.

You only have to read the first few posts on here, its quite sad and reflects these peoples personas. As for the game itself, wth Balanta going off and Clarke being the extra body in midfield, it was Sinclair being moved upfield instead of sitting just in front of the defence and being too deep which changed the game IMO. His forward runs drew players to him and opened up options and created chances. And we all saw what a difference the second half was. Brilliant result. Well chuffed this morning.

Agreed, but having watched it live no one could have been happy with the first half performance, it was woeful. Thankfully neither was DC and he had the balls and wherewithal to do something about it and he has to take the credit for that. I struggle with some on here who seem to think having a moan is tantamount to treason, it's part of being a football supporter, get over it!

But we are Bristol Rovers mate that's the difference Brilliant result last night and the usual will go into hiding until the next poor performance but who are they?? Rovers are in rebuilding mode and if people cant see that and have to vent their `anger` or whatever at Darrel Clarke and the team after years of being on the slippery slope to the conference then so be it. Sad I know but we are all different. Just give em s**te when they pop their heads up again

Where is the praise from these people after a good performance? A couple of words compared to constant venom aimed at the latest Rovers scapegoat Darrel Clarke. We all moan but these people are something different. You know full well what these two posters are getting at and it is not just those who moan.

Sorry but your presumption I know "too well what these posters are getting at" is incorrect, all I see is a moaners complaining about moaners. This is a football forum composed of people from all walks of life with differing viewpoints, the whole point of a a discussion forum.

Some people don't know the difference between moaning and questioning.

I thought tippy tappy Gateshead were marginally better than us in the first half, not miles better.
Unfortunately they ran out of tippy taps a long time before the end.
Their number 5 looked like he was playing for a different team. He was really rubbish.

I wasnt happy with the first half, but we came through as a team. What is annoying is some people wont give the team or DC any credit at all or at best begrudgingly. Are we perfect far from it, but this squad whatever our limitations has us at the top end of the table and they deserve a bit of credit. Some people dont seem to have any patience at The Mem when things arent working quite right despite the fact we have proved we can pick up points with our work rate A guy near me wanted us pushing them all over the bitxh despite the fact it was obvious that is what Gateshead wanted do they could play in the no 23 with a cross field ball, which they managed on quite a few occasions to start with. People do need to realise there is another team on the pitch at times and watch what they are trying to do

Great feeling knowing we have done our bit for the weekend and got the 3 points, long before every other side in the country (more or less) kick off a day later!
Lovely job.

I don't think there is an awful lot wrong with having a little moan, chatting to my mates in the first half we all thought it was pretty poor. However, I did hear one shout after 5 minutes (yes FIVE minutes after the game had started) of 'You haven't got a f**king clue Clarke', and it isn't uncommon to hear such things, in fact I would go as far as saying I have heard similar things, either about our players or manager in the vast majority of our games in the past few seasons. These aren't little asides to a mate eg 'that was a s**t pass, I think he's crap' in a conversation level voice, I am talking about proper loud rants along the lines of 'You're a f**king disgrace .... insert name of current scapegoat here'. It also isn't uncommon to log onto a forum after any kind of defeat and see demands for change, manager, players, board , tea lady ad infinitum. If watching Rovers makes these people that unhappy- even if they do really feel they love their club- then maybe it would be best for everyone (including themselves) if they didn't follow the team any more.
