Woking lost to a top ten side yet again. Flat track bullies of the division this year, barely any points against the top teams. FGR close to within a couple of points of us
Elsewhere, Torquay beat Halifax. Both sides are all over the place in terms of consistency

You beat me to it but basically saying same thing on another thread. Great results for us.

Yeah not too bad. People may say they mean nowt at this stage but I like the psychological boost of being second and hope we stay there a while (and looking upwards rather than down!)

I don't see that as a particularly great result for us. There are 23 games left and where we are now is fairly irrelevant. I am however pretty certain that FGR will be more of a threat to us over the course of the season than Woking will. So just because in the short term we stay where we are I'd rather have FGR further back I think.

Personally would prefer to be 2nd with 21 games left than any lower. Surely the higher the better.

Positive results for us tonight. Tomorrow, if Macc Lads and Ga(te)shead don't win too, it'll cap a decent mid week without kicking a ball.

Do we get the special badge for being 2nd now or is it when everyone has played 25 games?

More worried about Eastleigh - if they win all their games in hand they would be 5 points clear of us

Eastleigh have a worse record against the top ten sides than Woking do and that's saying summat. One win out of nine so far this season.

eastleighs next 2 games are against alfreton and telford so while they may move closer to the top 5 I don't think them or FGR will end up in the play offs due to having too many players who are clearly at those clubs for the money.I think Halifax still have the worse record against the top 10 or so and lost to almost everyone last time I checked.

Do we get the special badge for being 2nd now or is it when everyone has played 25 games? No badge, but can't we enjoy being second at the moment? Especially considering our usual league position around this time in recent seasons. I do believe Sean O'Dismal saying he never looked at the league table, and we all know what happened to him at City. Our league position should bring confidence for our players, but then the negativity from some supporters will offset that.

He really didn;t look at them (or at least would never admit to anyone he did).

Can see your point about FGR possibly being more of a threat but I'm sure you wouldn't consider our position irrelevant if we were 24th. Even then I wouldn't be worried about other teams with 21 games left. You can be even more certain at the bottom that if you sort your form out the rest will take care of itself because somebody will definitely start losing and by definition if you are at the bottom and start winning you should zip up the table pretty sharpish; the only reason that doesn't happen is if you have been so poor that you have lost touch and that has nothing to do with other teams either that is entirely to do with your team being crap. The fact is we're 2nd largely because we've played more games than those around us - not because we have played well enough to be 2nd on merit; our goal difference shows this as does the games in hand of sides below us. I'm more concerned about our current form than worrying what others are doing at this stage; we are not going to cling on to 2nd if we continue our current form. If we don't start winning more regularly soon then some teams will definitely overtake us. If we start winning regularly then there are enough games left for the league to take care of itself. 21 games is still very much in our hands. If say we get to 6 games from the finish and we need to make up 6 points to the playoffs then other teams results really matter. For the time-being some teams will win and some teams will lose and the teams that we want to lose now are not necessarily we'll want to be losing at the end when it matters so I can't get too excited about it. The only team that may be worth worrying about it Barnet because it looks like they may be beginning to pull away and that's not good if we have any automatic promotion which to be honest given our recent run looks a bit beyond us this year.

Well. Four teams below us *could* catch us based on games in hand. Two of them we play at home very shortly and one of them has so many games in hand and is so far behind that it really aint worth speculating beyond saying that they will drop points in some of those games. Games in hand are worth nowt unless they're won. I don't see many teams who are sure to win any given weekend beyond the current league leaders

21 games to go - 2nd in the League - preparing to strengthen again in January. All very positive in my book. Barnet sell Akinde in January loose a couple and before you know it.......!!
Not seen anything to be over concerned about in this pretty competitive league and we have hardly started to pull up trees yet! If we are able to improve by 10/20% anything is possible.

This league is dire, you can go on a bad run and still be more or less where you were before.
If only we could score a few bloody goals.

If you look over the last few seasons you will see that FGR start the season with a flourish then gradually slide down the league after xmas when they have to off load some of their big earners

Macclesfield won at Aldershot so we're down to third. Eastleigh lost at Alfreton and Gateshead drew with Southport at home so not a bad pair of results for us there. As I say, games in hand mean nowt if you don't win 'em...

Does that mean I have to stop enjoying being second already?
