On the face of it he looks like one of those players who probably needs to play in the right team or alongside the right type of player in order to be effective. That's a very mixed goalscoring record. Excepting where he was clearly playing below his level it seems like he's had some good years and some not quite so good years. This suggests to me that the team around him and the players next to him will make a massive difference to how effective if he is. Point being - someone like Matt Harrold will be Matt Harrold no matter what side you put him in; his game and effectiveness isn't going to change that much. Someone like Jamie Forrester on the other hand had good or bad years depending on who his strike partner and manager was. So it's a good thing Clarke has worked with him before - suggests we should expect a reasonable amount out of him.

I've just watched his interview on YouTube and it's fair to say he isn't going to be the easiest for journalists to work with - his first few answers were very short and repetitive!
I did like his confidence when Keith Brookman asked him what we can expect from him as he said something along the lines of: "Goals. Anything around the box will be in the back of the net."
That's what we've been lacking in a striker for donkeys years. Will Hoskins was probably the last striker we had who was pretty clinical in the box.

His interviews will get even worse once the BRFC media training classes start.

That's a very mixed goalscoring record. Excepting where he was clearly playing below his level it seems like he's had some good years and some not quite so good years. He scored 1 goal in 3 starts for Shrewsbury, scored 26 goals playing in the Conf South and scored 11 goals in 14 starts in the Conf Prem. He prefers to play on the shoulder, but can come short, makes good runs along the forward line, always looking for an opportunity to run in behind. The only time he has struggled is when he's been regaining fitness/confidence following injuries. Those consistent, niggly, sometimes serious fitness issues have been the only thing preventing him from playing higher IMHO.

Does this mean in either the board's review or Clarke's review somebody realised we were actually missing a striker? It's a miracle

He had not been paid for two months, and at 5pm yesterday he became a free agent. Eastleigh offered £50,000 for him last season.
its the free agent status that has to be cleared by the authorities.

Cheers for that info toteend. I wonder if Angus MacDonald and Elliott Frear are also in the same boat contract-wise? I wouldn't be surprised to see either end up here, especially England C Player of the Year Elliott Frear, who i understand Clarke rates quite highly.

I believe that I heard a brief report this morning on Radio Bristol (well, it was quite early), in which they reported that BRFC did not intend to pay a transfer fee for any player recruited in this close-season. The question is, was I dreaming or is this a reality?

DC did say he has seen loads of players, and he insists on speaking directly to them. He has offered deals to about 5 or 6, but wouldn't name names, quite right of course.
He includes in that a right winger, and another striker. We have competition from other conference clubs, and a league 2 club, but is hopeful on most if not all of them.
As for Gregory from Halifax he said that Brad city had had an offer of £300k turned down, so we won't be following that up.

He sounds like just the player we'll need for the conference. Rather worrying injury record though. Hmm
