No, not Higgsy. Stewart Donald of Eastleigh.
"Following our fixture last night I felt compelled to write to Bristol Rovers today regarding the conduct of their supporters. It was obviously a huge night for Eastleigh as we knew that largely due to your support we would be expecting a record league attendance. Obviously the numbers are not comparable to yourselves but being new to the league we are adjusting to the need to cope with and control a much larger number of fans than we were previously used to.
Your supporters could have made this a difficult night for us but quite the contrary behaved in an exemplary manner. They were an absolute credit to your club.
Fans arrived in huge numbers, were well mannered and contributed massively to what was a special night for our club. Obviously historically you are used to arriving at better facilities than we are currently able to offer but this presented no issues for your supporters, they were understanding, considerate and just supported the team in a well spirited sporting manner.
I would like to pass on our appreciation to all your fans for their conduct. It is hugely appreciated and I look forward to the return fixture in March, hopefully we will still be within four points of you by then!"

Very nice of him to say so, mostly because he didn't have to. He could have kept schum.

A Chairman who recognizes the value of a proactive public relations strategy.

A Chairman who recognizes the value of a proactive public relations strategy. Cynic.

Reading the first line of that I was dreading what was coming, but that really is brilliant to read!
The EP won't like reporting that.

He obviously didn't hear what one loud mouth Gashead was shouting on the way out along the lines of " You're a joke of a club, you don't deserve to have us visit you, you'll be bust and gone out of business in two years" and kept repeating it, it was embarrassing to say the least, particularly as we had been received pretty well by stewards and Police. No comment about the officials though

I just hope it was only because he'd left his headlights on.

Rumours are that the Eastleigh chairman usually shakes the hand of each away fan! We took too many last night & kick off would have been delayed until 9pm if he had!!!
Proper non-league!!! Good on him!!!

For swearing at a Steward, the Police let him back in. That sounds like more good stewarding / Policing then. A quiet word to one side about conduct ... respect given ... respect reciprocated ... lesson learned ... let's move on ... fella gets to see the game ... happy days all round.

No comment about the officials though you miss the point of what the Eastleigh chairman was writing. he wasn;t saying everyone was a polite little scarf wearing supporter from the 50s. he was saying we were good, didn;t whinge about the facilities and let them have their nice big evening. of course there were lots of mouthy people around, and some with far too much to drink, but neither is a an offense per se, and no-one caused any trouble. It's a working class game with working class fans, mainly men who've been drinking and need a release from a day's work. it ain't a school prom. I'm not explaining myself well. sorry. i'm just trying to say there is a big difference between 'anger' and borish shouts on the terraces at decisions, and any 'trouble.

Reading the first line of that I was dreading what was coming, but that really is brilliant to read! The EP won't like reporting that. not sure where this belief comes from. James McNamara is doing really excellent, intelligent match reports at the moment, and will print (or add on website) pretty much anything. In fact he had it up yesterday afternoon before many people even knew about it, and I think it was done within minutes of a fan alerting him about it on twitter. We have 2 fan blogs where we can write basically anything, and do our own headline. My articles are never edited (a few minor amends sometimes). Until recently City didn;t even have fan blogs. They have one now, but last time I saw it it was very amateurish and just a 'state the bleeding obvious' recount of recent stories. the BP is a newspaper/news source. it will print anything which is news, good or bad.
