Well another very entertaining game against one of the better sides in this division with a good crowd. Thought that we paid them a little too much respect and allowed them to have lots of possession but when it comes down to it football is about creating chances and taking them and in truth Woking had very few opportunities and we should; with better finishing; have had four or five.
Wish myself that we would push up a bit and pressurise defenders and stop the opposition having so much possession but can't complain at the recent results and certainly cannot fault the effort of ANY of our players.
Mildenhall - 6.5 Good positioning overall, one great save but it was already offside but in all honesty it was a quiet day at the office.
Leadbitter - 6 (Defending 5 Attacking 7) When going forward Leadbitter's pace and confidence is brilliant and he almost scored a similar goal to last week in the second half. Not so sure about his defending at times but overall i would stick with him and I am sure we have a good player.
Lockyer - 7 Thought Tom had calm effective game in what is his best position and it was probably his best game of the season which does present a good problem when Trotman is fit. I would go for Trotman's strength in the air and his presence at our corners which I think we missed yesterday but Lockyer is a tremendous young player and I am sure that DC will find a place for him in the team.
Parkes - 8 I thought this was Parkes best game of the season. Strong in the air and commanding throughout. The goal the other night has obviously boosted his confidence and that was a lot nearer the Parkes we thought we had when we signed him.
Brown - 6 Passing and crosses were not up to their usual standard but pretty solid in defence and not much got past him or the defence as a whole
Gosling - 5 Worked hard but a bit light weight and didn't really have much influence on the game but should have done better with a couple of half chances
Sinclair - 7.5 Worked his socks off as usual but I do worry when he is in our penalty area as he can be over enthusiastic at times and was VERY lucky not give a ridiculous penalty away in the first half. Overall his passing was very good and he does look to pass the ball forward at every opportunity but not sure about the two in midfield because we do allow the opposition a lot of time on the ball at the back.
Mansell - 8.5 MOM Our captain was an inspiration today. Really gets stuck in and covers so much ground, neat in possession and what a goal!!
Martin 5.5 Great cross for the opening goal but it is clear to see why he doesn't score many goals. Should have scored on two occasions and general play was not up to his performance against Nuneaton
Taylor 8 Another who runs and runs and led defenders a merry dance at times. Unlucky not to score but was fouled on many occasions and generally Woking got away with it
Cunnington 7 Absolutely brilliant goal and a willing worker. Lacks pace but the truth is if he had pace he wouldn't be playing in the Conference. Again missed a couple of reasonable opportunities but his presence at both ends of the pitch is important.Felt it was the wrong decision to take him off but maybe his legs had gone so won't be too critical of the decision.
Harrison 7 Ellis is maturing as a player and is starting to understand that it is a team game. Held the ball very well and held is own against a very tough defender whyo got away with far too much.
Clarke 6.5 Impressive during the time he was on the pitch
Woking 7 A good strong team but i feel we played into their hands a bit by not hassling their back four and giving them less time on the ball however we have found a set up that is winning games so can't complain. They didn't really look like scoring so defensively it was a job well done from us. Got away with a lot from the referee but he did miss the penalty against Sinclair so not going to complain.
We do look a good team at times and dangerous with it. DC's willingness to change things is good to see but would like to see us pressurising the opposition further up the pitch. An entertaining game and if we can pick up at least 3 points from the next two games then I can see a season at the right end of the table.

I agree with most of that but would give an extra mark to Lockyer. Thought he was magnificent yesterday, keeping the top scorer in the league very quiet (and frustrated by the end!).

I'm starting to wonder if we have any team to fear in this division, particularly at the Mem, as long as we can keep everybody fit.

Not sure about the penalty appeal against Thor - he went to chest the ball down but it flew up at him - I was too far from the play to see clearly but the referee was close! However the Woking fans had a good view and appealed immediately. The substitution of Ollie for Gosling made a huge difference to the game so I would give DC 9/10 as well as giving Olliie at least 7.

My marks on the performances yesterday are ... Mildenhall 6.5 Calm and assured, gives confidence to those in front of him,1 brilliant save nullified by linesmans flag
Leadbitter 6. Looked good going forward, defensively needs to up his game and for a tall man not that good in the air.
Lockyer 7.5 Good steady performance positioning was good, still needs to work on distribution
Parkes 8.5 Absolutely immense, won everything and kept Morgan and Rendell very quiet
Brown 6.5 Typical Brown game good in defence and worked hard at overlapping his winger
Gosling 5 Looked too lightweight and contributed very little to the team
Mansell 8.5 As others have said best midfielder we have had since Campbell enough said
Sinclair. 7 Great engine runs everywhere just needs to steady himself at times
Martin 6 Great cross for goal but his 3 free kicks from the edge of Wokings box were hit so hard and high even Chris Maclean would not have got near them.If he cant do better than that dont take them
Cunnington 7 Took his goal really well works hard but there is something lacking that i cant quite put my finger on
Taylor 6. Fail to understand the love in with him.Yes he works hard and casn beat a player but remember he is a striker and paid to score goals 1 this season is a poor return and the chances he had yesterday were blazed high and wide not good enough.
Harrison 7 Getting back to a couple of years ago,has good upper body strength to enable him to shield the ball and not easily knocked off it.The Woking defence were scared stiff of his pace and resorted to strong arm tactics to stop him.
Clarke 7. I am not one of his biggest fans but he strenghthened the mid field and allowed Sinclair freedom to do what he does best.Stopped the Woking midfield having control and forced them into long ball tactics
Team performance 8 solid and improving, now need to keep this sort of performance away from home

Thanks Brian. As a scout would you be filing Lockyer as worth a closer look at?

Re Cunnington also not sure what is missing, pace and power perhaps. Feeling is that is why a fit Brunt in Jan is needed..

Re Cunnington also not sure what is missing, pace and power perhaps. Feeling is that is why a fit Brunt in Jan is needed.. Pace is not his strong point, not as powerful as some But leads the line with intelligence, with his flicks the other players just do not read them, yet. The best we have had for a long while With a player as powerful as Harold for instance the ball would bounce/go anywhere without much end product

Thanks Brian. As a scout would you be filing Lockyer as worth a closer look at? Possibly,Kim,but his distribution is the big drawback, this is something he and the coaching staff must work on if he is to fulfill his potential.I would put him down as one to watch but at present not top of my list

Cunnington has done more in half a dozen games than Matt Harrold did in all the time he was with us .

Not sure that is true but the debate is more about do we need a fit Ryan Brunt as cover/alternative when required?
