OK - Madness it is. Just love the "Englishness" of this track. Must have been a good top 4 for this to only get to number 5. www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/19821212/7501/Oh....at least I could accept The Jam's farewell single and maybe the hype of the 2nd Culture Club single. You forget how popular Shakin Stevens was. Our House is arguably better than their only number one, House of Fun, which deserved to make it but was on the crest of their popularity as well. Our House proved to be their peak, accompanied by their best album IMO, Rise and Fall, a real Kinks influenced Village Green concept album with some cracking tracks and lovely music. Remember there were 7 of them who all had their role and I can't think of a better saxophonist or pianist in other bands. Love the video.

Tragically, I remember how popular Shakin' Stevens was. He wasn't as bad as memory serves. Well it's all very subjective. But I wonder how many Shakey tracks are on this 64 page thread? I wonder if any of his singles or albums made a music critics top 100. OK top 1000, let's give Shakey a chance. I'm already dreading the on-set of winter and "Merry Christmas Everyone" being played every 10mins. The Welsh Elvis? Jesus, give me strength. Oh - actually on reflection he did one decent thing, assaulting Richard Madeley live on TV.

The genius that is Ray Davies.
My sister tried to work out the lyrics as a teenager, I felt almost brainwashed listening to this song as a kid as a result.
Great song

He was touring in Sri Lanka last year and Darren Gough got him to come on Talk Sport for an interview while he was over there doing the cricket. Over 70, just doesn't do the knee slides like he used to. Underrated. I challenge anyone not to dance to This Ole House and singalong if you've had 6 pints up Centurys on a Saturday night. Embrace the guilty pleasure that is Shaky

I said a few months ago that when it got to Autumn, this had to be played. It felt very Autumnal on the cycle home from the pub at 11pm last night.
