This time tomorrow this Labour Government may be the most disliked/hated in British history.

I think that business's will raise prices to cover the extra national insurance for their employees, however some employers might decide that its now financially viable to replace workers with robots. Someone that i knew worked for an employer who was looking at robots a few years ago, this was in a warehouse, the robots wouldnt completely replace humans but about 80% of jobs would go, it would also be financially beneficial for supermarkets to convert to self service...more jobs lost.

Most are now, the Aldi in our village has gone over to self service. They haven't done any training for customers yet so that they can get 100 items through in a minute..... Also the machines aren't user friendly. They have to be constantly monitored as they work on the weight of the item and if there is only a small divergence, it won't let you proceed. They also need staff permanently by the till to sign off the odd box of paracetamol and bottle of booze. What they don't talk about is the level of theft that has gone up and is factored into costs. Security people in the stores are generally for insurance purposes only and have very little power to stopped the seasoned thieves. My sister works in Tesco and the staff know a lot of the regulars who try to get away with products without paying and the management do little to prevent theft. And as police won't come out unless its a very substantial amount and the courts only give slaps on the wrist to thieves, there is little incentive to stop them.

I was in Tesco last week, and the person on the check-out was aggressive, rude, dressed like a tramp and stank of cheap Vodka. That's the last time I use the self-checkout !

Well some have already done it but I expect that more stores will go self service in future. Our local Aldi had 8 self service machines put in when the store was refurbished and their is one girl supervising the 8 machines,it is quicker and the long queues at the tills dont happen as often no. Not sure whether its easier to shoplift now with self service though as there are still staff stacking the shelves ,probably the shoplifting is the same as before, difficult to stop it and for some people it seems to be normal behavior sadly.
