Berni Inns special, did you every experience the delights of their menu?Β Nice bottle of Italian red for me matey! Oh Yes,Β Prawn Cocktail, Steak & Chips and Black Forest Gateau..The Great British Meal. When I was working for Xerox there was a Berni Inn directly across the road. As BT says, Prawn Cocktail, Steak and Chips with a big slice of Black Forest Gateau was the staple. Valpolicella (Red) for me, although the ladies always preferred Black Tower Riesling. So bloody sweet that was. Those were the days.

Basel was obviously trying to trap people with his OP, assuming that unless they expressed absolute pride in being British he could then accuse them of being unpatriotic.
Unfortunately for him it backfired a bit when everyone's favourite poster Ltdgas jumped in with one of his maniacal rants.
Oops.

Such an inarticulate argument. Given your obviously limited vocabulary are you sure you are English? There has to be doubts ππππ, f**k me you canβt even read , the thread title is are you proud to be British πππ And I maybe thick , but what does it say about you when Boris / nige handed you & your remainiac asses over brexit ππadd to that the 52% of racist / thickoes who kicked your asses as well Not doing very well are you , picking the right side to be on , all your terroist mates getting blown to bits πππbooooom . Off to Benidorm with mates soon , piss up / upset the locals πππ, rule Britannia As someone that has been accused of being a racist , fascist and bigot on here due to being a Trump, Robinson fan, and is very much anti immigration - so I share some of your views. This is such a shocking post. I mean honesty, WTF...ππ±π€¨

It's as boring and daft as Baldricks second post ( then he/she relaxed and made worthy contributions ). I think we all know by now,we'll be proud about different things concerningour country.I accepted and knew this before beginning the thread. The only poster I was sure would be unnecessarily rude and disruptive did'nt let me down. Afraid you did'nt cross my mind.

Jesus Christ What a stupid question. I'm not sure why Bas is asking, maybe he feels some on here don't, falling for Ltdgas' narrative everyone with a conscience is a commie. π I am interested in posters opinion Balders. Especially in these days of woke tyranny infiltrating much of our lives. It's a threat to free speech. I now know a bit more about those, like you, that offered point of view and that's that. We know there is plenty we disagree on,but we've probably covered at least a lot of that in other threads.

It's a good idea for a thread, and it would be nice to focus on positives about the country without necessarily veering into politics as there's enough of that on here already. It might help lift my spirits, thinking about the good stuff that goes on in what seems like a sea of negativity.

Are you, anyone, defined by where you were (by chance) born, or by what you believe in and how you act?

For those of us that are British, so Welsh,Scottish, Northern Irish or English. Are you proud of being British? I suppose I ought to give my answer. Yes.I have a sense of pride in my English British nationality. To answer your question Bas, yes of course I am.. and absolutely freaking rightfully so..! Personally, I think anyone of us that was born British, has won the lottery of life. I would also extend that to any immigrations of this country that have been invited in.They are also lottery winners. I'm humbled, and feel honoured to hold a British passport, which with the American one is the most valuable in the world. We are free...Or at least in theory we are - even though political correctness is holting that..We have a social welfare system where you get supported if vulnerable...well again, in theory that is. We have invented many things that have helped shape the world such as - The motor car, tin can, the internet, the steam engine, light bulb, television , photography and telephone. Not to forget our importance in the history of science and educational services. We also invited most major sports. We have top level sports leagues, teams and sports people. And play the biggest role outside of only Hollywood in films and TV. The same is with music and our creation of such historical bands and musicals. We as a nation has done our fair share of bad things during our history, especially our Empire days. But the good we have done far out weighs the bad. This country is a great one, and I'm proud to call it my home. π¬π§

Agree, give me a bottle of 'Liebfraumilch' any day of the week....(not every day) Berni Inns special, did you every experience the delights of their menu? Nice bottle of Italian red for me matey! tbh people might deride Berni Inns now but it was a nice place for a family meal out back in the day, affordable and popular, I doubt if the majority of families ever go out for a meal together now price being one reason.

Own up. Who went to the very original, the very first Berni Inn? Bloody immigrants...how dare they set up a successful hospitality chain. It's just not British..ππππ
Or of course there was always Lyons and the subsequent Trust House Forte.

It's just not British..ππππ Or of course there was always Lyons and the subsequent Trust House Forte. Itβs along time ago but I believe my first job was in the kitchen , washing up & making salads ( step mum who was a waitress got me the job ) , I got on ok until there was a commotion in the resteraunt , I was called over and showed a large maggot / caterpillar thing in the salad , the women / husband were offered a free meal , but left , I was sacked as I laughed about it , wasnβt bothered as was just waiting to start a apprentiship as rolls Royce . Iβm sure the chef cooked in a open kitchen so diners could see him cooking , then place to left where you made salads , then room farther to left where you washed plates / cutterly Iβm 99% sure it was a Bernie inn , but long time ago so maybe wrong Only foreigner I remember was the chef , Iβm sure he was Spanish but could be wrong , as I say long time ago I do remember us moving from Easton to coalpit Heath as the foreigner were just dropping there trousers & s**tting in the streetπ, though step mum refused to goto grandads house in Ragland , as she went in bathroom , came out screaming , grandad had washed his Johnnyβs out & hung them to dry out on a line above the bath πππ, bloody sheep shaggers

Ok Let's broaden it out. Are you, anyone, defined by where you were (by chance) born, or by what you believe in and how you act? That's a great question that has many layers to it. I think in someway's yes I am, and in most others Im not. Let's take a very basic thing such as table manners. I chew my food with my mouth closed, and I use a knife and fork - This isn't a dig at some our foreign imports to the UK, but some Muslims and north Africans eat their food only with their hands, regardless of if table wear is available or not, or regardless of what type of food they are eating. That is a cultural thing. I think us British folks are in general very polite, and we say thanks to people in public services , or if say someone holds a door open for you, or if someone lets you through while driving, much more than most other cultures do. But, I have extremely high morals.. I try not to lie, I don't steal, and would never cheat in a relationship for example. That's not from the influence of this country, those as morals that come nature to me, and were no doubt influenced by my late father.
