Hi all.
I'm a New Zealander with old family links to Bristol, and apparently one of my ancestors ran the "Full Moon" pub in the late 1700s, which I've seen talked about on this forum as previously being a pro-Rovers pub (obviously not at the time my ancestor ran it)
However, it appears at one point that there were TWO "Full Moon" pubs in Bristol:
1. Now the "Full Moon and Attic Bar" in Stokes Croft on North Street
2. Now "The Crafty Egg" (previously also "New Moon") over in Fishponds
Can anyone tell me if they remember which of these two "Full Moon"s was the pro-Rovers pub? And also, if they remember the other pub, if that one was known to have any affiliation to either Rovers or City?
Thanks very much!

Hmm,can't say Kiwi, but there is also a Crafty Egg on the Gloucester Road, a neighbour of that very good venue whose name escapes me. The owner of the Crafty Eggs is a Man Utd fan and attends England games. The recent Wembley Manchester derby was the best game he had seen he told me. Not the response you were looking for I know.

The other one in Stokes Croft (had a seperate bar called the 'Eclipse bar') wasnt Rovers or City in my experience,a place where pub crawls started heading up Stokes Croft/Cheltenham rd/Gloucester rd, so many pubs on that route have now closed.

With the close proximity of Fishponds to Eastville, it was (back in the day) a very strong Rovers area.

Don't know the pub, but Fishponds historically very much a Rovers area I think
(just seen that Jeff has just posted this - great minds and all that Jeff)

The 'crafty' pub on Gloucester Road is The Crafty Cow (formerly The Gloucester), not The Crafty Egg. It's further out of town, between The Wellington and The Inn on The Green: thecraftycowbristol.co.uk/There are 2 Crafty Eggs and they are cafe/bars, rather than pubs: www.thecraftyegg.co.uk/1) The original in Stokes Croft. It's opposite the old Carriage Works building (Bristol Byzantine architecture), and next door to The Crofter's Rights. 2) The second in Fishponds on Fishponds Road, with Nat West on one side and Bet Fred on the other. It's cafe central in that area: Grounded opposite, then just after Bet Fred you've got Porto Lounge, Coffee #1, and The Old Post Office. This was formerly The Full Moon and surely the Rovers stronghold, North Bristol and close to Eastville. bristolslostpubs.com/other-districts/full-moon-fishponds-road/The Full Moon in Stokes Croft is an old Coaching House, and is the first building you come to as you go up the A38, away from the Bear Pit: fmbristol.co.uk/

Have a nose around this website, you might be able to find the name of your ancestors in the list of licensees: bristolslostpubs.com/Some pubs have a full page to their own, including interesting information from the census, like the Full Moon in Fishponds. Although it seems most likely to be a Rovers pub, it doesn't look like your ancestors as the dates only to go back to 1841: bristolslostpubs.com/other-districts/full-moon-fishponds-road/Looks like there were many more than 2 Full Moons in Bristol. For instance, from the home page click on the link to 'Central', then choose D-F, and you'll see there were 7 around central Bristol alone (some didn't last long though). The Full Moon in Stokes Croft doesn't have its own page, but you do get a photo and the full details of the licensee between 1752 and 1975 in the Central D-F section. Scroll down the page until you get to North Street. That's now the first building on the right as you go up the A38 (AKA Stokes Croft into Cheltenham Road into Gloucester Road): bristolslostpubs.com/central/d-f/

Lived close to the Fishponds Full Moon pub. Rovers pub more through geography than anything else, several, more well supported Rovers pubs within the area. The Full Moon was a bikers pub for many a long year.

Big thanks to everyone who provided answers as well as interesting sources for information about the pubs. Really appreciate everyone's help Turns out my ancestor ran the Full Moon that was in Stokes Croft (thanks to The Concept for pointing me to the pubs licensees records to confirm that). I guess does anyone know if that area of Stokes Croft is/was once considered Rovers territory or not? I've heard the old "above the river = Rovers, below = City" rule of thumb, but this pub was awkwardly right along river it looks like, so hard to pin down whether I actually have any strict links to Rovers or not.

Mid 1970’s I had a couple of Rovers friends who lived at the bottom of Cheltenham Road, right on the Croft. The flats and maisonettes behind Stokes Croft on Dove Street also had many Rovers fans, I spent a lot of time around this area as a 14-16 yr old, but once past the Full Moon was no-mans land.

The Full Moon, Fishponds: Major Gas pub up until millennium ish....held bikers meetings in 90s, classic meeting place in 70s/80s.
Pub closed down now.
The Full Moon, Stokes Croft: Like someone alluded to above, neutral. Entrance in courtyard, where the opposite was The Eclipse. Full Moon more bar like with snacks and food, The Eclipse had multiple pool tables and darts with loud jukebox in 90s, and I presume 70s/80s.
Eclipse not there now, empty shell. Full Moon was still open a few seasons back, but I haven't passed there recently.
Also....Full Moon at Twerton. Became a Gas stronghold for 10 years while we babysat Bath City. Stockport tried getting in there once, they never made it in without being danced back out the way they came in with a flea in their ear...
Also not a pub anymore, converted into dwellings.

The one in Stokes Croft used to be affiliated to neither when I drank there. Used to work nearby in the 90s, my team manager used to hold appraisals over there. I remember having a few pints in there, then catching a coach up to London. This was in the days before coaches routinely had toilets on them. It wasn`t a journey I look back on with much affection.

I doubt your passengers do either. 😃
