Adding to the post above: Preston appoint Paul Heckingbottom as boss..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/11/28/13/51063721-0-image-a-8_1638105060933.jpgPreston North End have appointed former Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom as their manager. The 47-year-old guided the Blades to promotion to the Premier League in 2022-23 but was sacked last December. He replaces Ryan Lowe, who left the Lancashire side by mutual consent after their opening weekend home Championship defeat by Sheffield United. Heckingbottom, who will be assisted by Stuart McCall, will take charge of the team for the first time in Saturday's home game against Luton. "It's a club I know well for lots of reasons and a league I know well, so it was a pretty easy decision," Heckingbottom told the club website., external "Experience is key. Knowing the players helps, and then having success in this league helps, so we know what it takes to compete. "We know what it takes to do well and you can give that clear direction to try and get there, and that's the aim. "The short-term goals are to get back on track. Longer term, we want to be a really, really competitive team in this league." Heckingbottom started his managerial career at Barnsley and led them to promotion from League One and success in the EFL Trophy. He had brief spells with Leeds and Hibernian before joining the coaching staff at Sheffield United. After a caretaker spell in 2020-21, he was appointed as manager in November 2021 and guided them to a play-off finish that season. Despite off-field issues, he then led them to second place in the Championship in 2022-23, as well as an FA Cup semi-final appearance. However, they struggled to strengthen last summer and he was sacked in December with the team having lost 11 of their first 14 league matches.

Rapid Bucharest sack Neil Lennon after just six matches in charge..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/20/21/88741511-13762807-image-m-47_1724186264335.jpgFormer Celtic and Hibernian manager Neil Lennon has been sacked by Rapid Bucharest after just six matches. The 53-year-old ex-Northern Ireland midfielder, who also had spells in charge at Bolton Wanderers and Omonia Nicosia, was appointed in May. A run of five draws and a defeat has Rapid sitting 12th in the 16-team SuperLiga. Backroom staff Iain Brunskill, Andrew Liddell and Kyirakos Televantos have also been relieved of their duties. A club statement on Lennon's departure read: "We thank him for all his dedication and energy on the Rapidu bench, especially since he has been through difficult times lately, and we wish him much success in the future!" Lennon, who also captained Celtic, had been at home in Northern Ireland earlier this month following the death of his mother.

Adding to the post above: Blackpool sack Neil Critchley after back-to-back losses..i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article24220008.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_GettyImages-1233189325.jpgBlackpool have sacked head coach Neil Critchley after they began their 2024-25 League One campaign with back-to-back defeats. Critchley, 45, arrived for a second spell at the club in May 2023 having led them to promotion to the Championship two years previously. The Seasiders missed out on a play-off spot by three points last season, finishing the campaign in eighth position. The club confirmed that first-team coach Richard Keogh will take over as interim head coach, starting with Saturday's trip to Cambridge United. "Despite his best efforts over the past 12 months, there have been a number of disappointing results and performances which means that a change is needed to give the club every possible chance of competing at the top end of the division this season," owner Simon Sadler said., external "I will always be thankful for Neil's wonderful efforts in guiding the club to promotion to the Championship in 2021, and then comfortably keeping us in the division the following season. "I and all at the club wish Neil and [assistant head coach] Mike [Garrity] the very best for the future." Following Blackpool's League One play-off victory in 2021, Critchley kept the club in the second tier the following season but went on to join Steven Gerrard's staff at Aston Villa in 2022. He later had a 12-game stint in charge of QPR, during which time the Rs won just once, before he was sacked in February 2023. Critchley returned to Bloomfield Road following the club's relegation back to League One at the end of the 2022-23 season but the team fell short of a top-six spot last term. The club were defeated by newly promoted Crawley Town and Stockport County in their opening two games of this season prior to Critchley's departure.

The Carlisle-born Simpson, 58, ended his playing career with the Cumbrian club and returned for a second spell as manager in 2022, leading them to promotion. However, they were relegated to League Two last season and Saturday's loss was their third from four league matches this term. Assistant managers Gavin Skelton and Billy Barr have also departed, as has Simpson's son Jake, who was the club's head of performance. Academy coaches Mark Birch, Steven Rudd and Jamie Devitt have been placed in caretaker charge. Carlisle lost nine of their final 10 home games last season and drew the other. And Simpson's exit was announced three hours after their latest reverse at Brunton Park. "Everyone at the club would like to thank Paul and his staff for their efforts," Carlisle said in a statement., external The Piatak family, from Jacksonville in Florida, completed a takeover of Carlisle last year and Simpson spoke before the start of the season about "positive things going on" at the club. But results have continued to be poor and he leaves with the team 20th in the table. Prior to his time as a player at United, Simpson’s career included spells at Manchester City, Derby County and Wolves. As well as his two stints in charge at Carlisle, he has managed Preston, Stockport, Shrewsbury, Rochdale and England’s under-20s side, leading them to victory at the Under-20 World Cup in 2017.

Blackpool appoint Steve Bruce as head coach..i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article33355050.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/1_GettyImages-1415546591.jpgLeague One side Blackpool have appointed Steve Bruce as their head coach on a two-year deal. The 63-year-old had been out of work since being sacked by West Bromwich Albion in October 2022 following a nine-month spell in charge. Bruce has managed more than 1,000 competitive matches for clubs including Birmingham City, Hull City, Aston Villa and Newcastle United. He takes over after the Seasiders sacked Neil Critchley on 21st August following back-to-back defeats to start the campaign. They just missed out on a play-off spot last season, finishing in eighth position, but have only taken two points from their opening four matches this term. Bruce's long-term assistant Steve Agnew will join him at Bloomfield Road, along with coaches Richard Keogh, Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks. "I'm delighted to be back in football and to take charge of this fantastic football club," Bruce told the club website., external "I'd like to thank Simon, Julian and David for giving me this great opportunity. I look forward to meeting all of the staff and players in the coming days as we prepare for what we all hope will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road." The role is Bruce's 13th job in management since retiring as a player in 1999, and the 12th club he has managed after two spells at Wigan. His appointment was announced moments after Blackpool beat Crewe 4-1 in the EFL Trophy. "I'm confident that Steve's experience and leadership qualities will be a tremendous asset for Blackpool," owner Simon Sadler added. "His organised approach coupled with his desire to build a hardworking and entertaining side is a large part of what attracted us to him. “Additionally, Steve's ability to help grow and develop not only our playing staff but also our coaching talent was important to us. "Alongside his assistant Steve Agnew, there is a great opportunity for two of our former players at the early stages of their coaching careers to learn from a duo who possess unrivalled qualities. "We hope that this blend will get the very best out of our talented squad." Bruce will have to wait until 14th September to take charge of his new side for the first time, when they face Exeter at home.

Crawley Town announce Gateshead boss Rob Elliot as manager..by BBC Sporti2-prod.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/article24785526.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1201844605.jpgRob Elliot has been named Crawley Town manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal. The former Newcastle United goalkeeper led Gateshead to a sixth-placed finish in the National League and FA Trophy glory last season. The BBC reported yesterday a deal had been agreed for Elliot to move to the League One club to replace Scott Lindsey, who took over at MK Dons last week. "When the opportunity came about, it was impossible to turn down," Elliot told Crawley's website, external. "I heard there might be some interest, and we spoke to the owners and had such a positive conversation. "It is so exciting to see the way these players play, and I am really excited to get to work with them on the training ground." Crawley currently sit 20th in the league with seven points from seven games, having won promotion via the League Two play-offs under Lindsey last season. Lindsey's move to League Two Dons was announced on Wednesday, with Ben Gladwin put in interim charge for the Reds' 2-0 defeat by Bolton Wanderers at the weekend. Gladwin and Steve Hafner will remain in charge for Tuesday's home match against Mansfield Town at Broadfield Stadium. Despite reaching the National League play-offs last season, the club were barred from competing as their stadium contract did not meet the requirements of the English Football League. The club then beat Solihull Moors on penalties to win the FA Trophy final at Wembley in May. Elliot leaves the Heed fifth in the league with 23 points from 11 games. His first match in charge of Crawley was an away defeat 1-0 to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday 5th.

'Honoured' Neil Critchley excited by what Hearts can do this season..by Brian McLauchlin, BBC Sport Scotland Senior Reporteri.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/15/13/90872971-0-image-m-72_1728996643474.jpgNeil Critchley is "super excited and very honoured" to be Heart of Midlothian's new head coach and is "encouraged by what we can do this season" after one training session with the players. The former Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers manager has signed a deal at Tynecastle that runs until the end of the 2026-27 season. The 45-year-old succeeds Steven Naismith, who was sacked last month after a winless start to the Scottish Premiership season. That miserable start - part of a run of eight consecutive defeats in all competitions - has left Hearts bottom of the Premiership with two points from eight fixtures. But Critchley, who will be assisted by former Liverpool academy, Blackpool, Lincoln City and QPR coach Mike Garrity, is upbeat about the rest of the campaign. "From seeing them this morning, I was more encouraged than I was beforehand," he said. "I watched all the games because I've had a little bit of time on my hands, but it's always good to see the players first hand. Getting to know them, speaking to them and seeing them in training. "There was a good energy, good vibe about the group. From what I've seen, I'm encouraged by what we can still try and do this season." The Englishman managed Blackpool between 2020 and 2022 then returned to the Lancashire club in 2023 after a three-month spell in charge of QPR. Critchley, who took the Seasiders up to the Championship in England via the play-offs in 2021, has won 77 and drawn 47 of his 185 games as a manager. He coached Liverpool at under-age level and was Steven Gerrard's assistant at Aston Villa for a short spell in 2022.

Duncan Ferguson leaves Inverness CT after administration..by BBC Scotland Newsi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/24/00/91213121-13994535-image-a-25_1729724916347.jpgDuncan Ferguson has left his position as manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the former Scotland striker has told BBC Scotland News. The Scottish League 1 club was put into administration on Tuesday amid financial issues and was automatically deducted 15 points as a result. That has left them 12 points adrift at the bottom of the table and facing relegation to League 2, just eight years after they were in the top flight. Regardless of what division they are in next season, they will start on minus five points. Speaking outside the Caledonian Stadium on Wednesday, former Dundee United, Rangers, Everton and Newcastle forward Ferguson said he and two of his coaches had been let go. Earlier, Ferguson said he had "always been against administration". Players and other staff are expected to hear if they still have jobs on Thursday. Administrators BDO said they were working to "secure the long term future" of the Highland club by attempting to find new owners. If that fails, assets could be sold and the money raised distributed to creditors. Investor Alan Savage, a former club chairman, told BBC Scotland News he would give it his "best shot" to help save the club. Asked if he was confident it could be saved, he replied: "Of course I am, yeah." Savage pledged to help anyone who lost their job to find a new one. Asked about his own role if the club survives, he said: "It's a step-by-step process and until we've gone through those steps it's a bit early to say."
