Bristol Rovers closing in on making Blackburn Rovers Young Player of the Year their 12th signing..By Daniel Hargraves
Bristol Rovers appear close to making Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jake Garrett their 12th signing of the summeri2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9453869.ece/ALTERNATES/s1176b/0_GettyImages-2018752602.jpgBristol Rovers are closing in on a deal to sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jake Garrett on loan for the season, Bristol Live understands. As first reported by Football Insider, the 21-year-old is expected to join the Gas for the season on the back of winning the Championship side's Young Player of the Season Award last term. Garrett made 28 appearances for Blackburn last season, 21 of which coming in the Championship, scoring four goals and providing two assists. It was the young midfielder's second campaign of being involved in the first team after he played in 13 games during the 2022/23 season. A product of the Lancashire outfit's academy, the move, if completed, will be Garrett's first loan spell away from Ewood Park with hope from the Championship side's end that he will return a more experienced player with a significantly increased career senior appearance tally. The 21-year-old has been playing regularly throughout John Eustace's side's pre-season friendlies, last playing in a 1-1 draw against Morecambe last Friday but is understood to be low down the pecking order in the middle of the park as things stand. Blackburn conclude their preparations for the Championship season with a friendly against Stockport County tomorrow (Friday) evening. The move would see Garrett become Rovers' 12th signing of the summer and their third in central midfield alongside Isaac Hutchinson and Jamie Lindsay. Admittedly, the 21-year-old is of a more defensive mould than Hutchinson.

Jake Garrett has a very tidy left foot, going by a goal he scored v WBA.I'm glad he is a more defensive midfielder, rather than attacking.
Argyle strolled through us in the second half at times.A couple of stiff challenges would of been nice.
Our new squads athleticism, with the hard work ethic ( eg off the ball ,closing the opposition down v Argle) , will hopefully serve us well this season .
The spine is coming along,it's looks as if this Rovers will have backbone .

www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/jake-garrett-joins-bristol-rovers-loanBristol Rovers is delighted to announce the signing of Jake Garrett from Blackburn Rovers. Midfielder Garrett joins the Gas on a season-long loan deal from the Sky Bet Championship side and becomes the Club’s twelfth signing of the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old made 28 appearances in all competitions last campaign for Blackburn, scoring four goals and winning the Club’s Young Player Of The Season Award. Garrett will now continue his development in BS7 in Sky Bet League One with the Pirates. “I am really excited to join Bristol Rovers,” Garrett said. “I feel like I have a point to prove. I want to have the opportunity to show what I can do, week in and week out in League One. I am ready for the physical challenge and I'm prepared to battle hard and be a valuable part of the team. “I am aiming to play as many games as possible and to contribute to the team positively. I will work hard every day in training to ensure that I can perform at my best for the weekend matches. I want to have the opportunity to show what I can do, week in and week out, in League One. “I've had some really good discussions with the manager so far and it's become apparent that the way the Club wants to play suits me, and I'm eager to be a part of it and to make a positive impact. “Right from the start of the transfer process, the Club has made it clear that they really wanted me to join, which caught my attention. I hope I can hit the ground running and show what I can do.” Manager Matt Taylor welcomed Garrett to the Club and is looking forward to working with the midfielder. Taylor said: “We are pleased to welcome Jake to the Club for the 2024/25 season. Jake is a hardworking and versatile midfielder with a lot of potential, and has already earned a strong reputation in the Championship. “We are looking forward to continuing his development with us throughout the coming campaign.” Born in Liverpool, Garrett enjoyed spells with both the Liverpool and Everton Academies before joining Blackburn Rovers at nine-years-old. The midfielder signed his first professional contract at Ewood Park when he turned 17, in March 2020, and made his senior debut in a Carabao Cup tie in August 2022 against Bradford City. His league debut would come just a few short weeks later, in a 2-0 win over Sunderland, with Garrett ending the 2022/23 season with 13 showings in all competitions. The 21-year-old started the 2023/24 season in excellent form, scoring his first goal for Blackburn in a 4-3 Carabao Cup win over Walsall. He would also score in Carabao Cup victories against Harrogate Town and Cardiff City, and in the Championship against West Bromwich Albion. Twenty-eight appearances in all competitions and four goals would see Garrett named Blackburn’s Young Player Of The Year for the 2023/24 campaign. Everyone at Bristol Rovers welcomes Jake to the Club and wishes him all the best for his time in the blue-and-white quarters.

'Point to prove': Jake Garrett's first words as Bristol Rovers confirm midfield loan signing..By Daniel Hargraves
Bristol Rovers have made the loan signing of midfielder Jake Garrett from Blackburn Rovers their 12th addition this summer
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9457808.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_Garrett3.jpg Jake Garrett signs for Bristol Rovers on loan from Blackburn RoversJake Garrett has said he feels as though he has a point to prove as the midfielder's loan move to Bristol Rovers from Blackburn Rovers was confirmed. The 21-year-old becomes Rovers' 12th signing of the summer and adds another option to what is already a rather healthy midfield with Jamie Lindsay, Kamil Conteh and Grant Ward expected to be Garrett's closest competitors given that the likes of Isaac Hutchinson, Luke McCormick and Kofi Shaw are more attack-minded. Named Blackburn's Young Player of the Season last campaign, the exciting midfielder made 28 appearances, 21 of which coming in the Championship, and scored four goals while providing two assists. Having come through the Lancashire outfit's youth system, this is Garrett's first loan spell but admitted he's ready for the challenge. “I am really excited to join Bristol Rovers,” the new Rovers arrival told club media. “I've had some really good discussions with the manager so far and it's become apparent that the way the club wants to play suits me, and I'm eager to be a part of it and to make a positive impact. “Right from the start of the transfer process, the club has made it clear that they really wanted me to join, which caught my attention. I hope I can hit the ground running and show what I can do.” On the midfielder's arrival, manager Matt Taylor added: "We are pleased to welcome Jake to the club for the 2024/25 season. Jake is a hardworking and versatile midfielder with a lot of potential, and has already earned a strong reputation in the Championship. “We are looking forward to continuing his development with us throughout the coming campaign.” It seems unlikely that the 21-year-old will be involved in this afternoon's friendly at home to Cardiff City but has been frequently part of Blackburn's pre-season preparations with the hope being that he'll be fit enough to play some part in next weekend's League One opener at home to Northampton Town.

Rovers fan here you have got one hell of a player in Garrett I'm gutted he has been loaned, but at least it's only a loan not sold like Gent. You will be surprised how good Garrett is,he is a tough tackling midfielder who can play some football as well.He will get plenty of yellow cards and can score goals as well.I will be following his season so I might be a regular contributer.

There's another Rovers? Next you'll be telling me you play in Blue and White... We're not fans of the loan market here. Players are loaned and then deemed ready for first-team football; recalled by their parent club because they aren't getting enough games or doing too well; or aren't significantly better than what we already have. If/when we do sign players after their loan, their performances tend to drop off. Loan GKs have been particularly disappointing, including Cox last season. Over the last 20 years, we can count the number of successful loans on one hand. Let's hope Garrett is one of them...

Thanks Waggy, look forward to your contributions. I worked in Blackburn for the last 4 years and a bit of frustration amongst fans. Apparently you don't like the club up the road beginning with Bur.... [won't mention the full name and upset you!] Some of our recent loanees have gone on to better themselves - Elliot Anderson and Jarrell Quansah enjoyed their stays and learnt a lot. So hope he does too. We need a bit of muscle, so hope he enjoys the physical life in League One. Cheers matey

Cheers matey I agree on loan signings we have had loads but not many try,i would not put Garrett in that catergory.Im really anti venkys our so called owners, and i refuse to go whilst they are in charge at Ewood.I did go to my first game in a long while at Morecambe but just because my mate had some business on that day.Garrett has been loaned out in my eyes so the manager can play his signings.Im no fan of Eustace he was appointed by Waggot without the job being advertised.Waggot is the Guy who represented Andy Cole for a afternoon and took him for 30k.As for Bumley lets hope they get relagated so you can stuff em.I remenber many games v BRFC i go back to the 70,s remenber smash and grab.Been to Eastville and Bath but not your latest Stadium.

You're very welcome here, and it sounds like you'll be a great addition based on 1) dislike of Venky's 2) knowing your footballing onions 3) having a moral compass which isn't miles off that of many on here who didn't attend during Joey Barton's period as our manager I hope you enjoy checking out Jake Garrett's progress. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that we might become your 2nd club maybe? (or 2nd Rovers, at least) PS we've got a nice new stand for you to see when you finally visit our 3rd ground during your football watching career!

'The right decision': What Bristol Rovers can expect from Blackburn Rovers loanee Jake Garrett..By Daniel Hargraves
Bristol Rovers made 21-year-old midfielder Jake Garrett their 12th summer signing last weekend on a season-long loan from Blackburn Rovers
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9462851.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1759460502.jpg Jake Garrett in action for Blackburn Rovers against Chelsea last seasonIt's been an extremely busy summer for Bristol Rovers as last season's squad has been effectively ripped apart and rebuilt with 12 new additions coming through the door so far with there still three-and-a-half weeks left in the transfer window. The latest of the dozen is midfielder Jake Garrett who has joined on a season-long loan from Blackburn Rovers on the back of being named the Championship club's Young Player of the Season last term. After making 28 appearances for the Lancashire outfit, the academy product arrives in BS7 with a taste of Championship experience but in need of regular football, week-in-week out while still playing at a competitive level. In many ways, it appears as though a campaign in League One is what the youngster needs at this moment in time. Garrett is extremely well thought of at Ewood Park with head coach John Eustace calling him "an exceptional player" to club media while insisting he's "really excited" about this opportunity for the midfielder. Bar a 25-minute cameo in Saturday's friendly defeat to Cardiff City, Gasheads have been limited to YouTube clips and compilations in regards to watching Garrett in action meaning that his talents and capabilities are still a bit of an unknown to Rovers. In order to get a better idea of what the loanee will bring to Matt Taylor's squad, Bristol Live spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph's Blackburn Rovers reporter Elliott Jackson... After getting 28 appearances under his belt for Blackburn last season, why has the decision been made to send Jake Garrett out on loan for this season?"Garrett played plenty under Jon Dahl Tomasson in the first half of the season but his minutes dried up under John Eustace. That was mainly down the situation Rovers found themselves in; in the heat of a relegation battle. "He was probably fifth choice at Rovers and so the decision has been made to ensure he gets a full season of regular first-team football." Where do you see his best position in midfield? Is he more of a deep-lying player or can he make an impact in the final third?"It's interesting. He came through as a 'tough-tackling' midfielder, someone who'd sit deep and loved a challenge. But in his last six months under Tomasson, he evolved into someone that could score goals and impact the final third. I think a box-to-box role will probably suit him best where he can combine both qualities." i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9462889.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_GettyImages-1693646386.jpgHow has he performed in pre-season for Blackburn?"Ok. Nothing spectacular but not bad either. Rovers split their team into two and he was in the 'second XI', for want of a better phrase. So he's played plenty but hasn't particularly impressed or struggled." How have Blackburn fans reacted to the decision to send him out on loan? How well is he regarded by supporters?"I think the general mood is that it's the right decision for Garrett at this moment in time. He's got good potential and Rovers fans love to see their academy products come through and be successful. "It's a pretty unified view that a League One loan, where he hopefully plays a lot of minutes, will be good for his development." There is a clause in the loan agreement that allows Blackburn to recall Garrett in January. At this stage, how likely do you think it is that this could end up being a half-season loan?"No idea, it depends where Rovers are in terms of injuries, league position and how Garrett is doing. Nowadays, it's pretty standard for all loans to have a break clause, so I wouldn't read too much into it. "I think there's a willingness for this to be a season-long switch and so if everything goes to plan, he should see out 2024/25 at The Mem." What did Garrett do best last season and where do you think he needs to brush up on his game?"Consistency is important, especially for any young player. Garrett would look bright in some games or off the bench but then didn't always back it up. He'll argue it's tough to do that without a run of matches and so that's why this loan makes perfect sense."

I see Jake has not started in thr league yet ,looks like he has to bide his time. Yes, I think it’s exactly that, he’ll need to be patient. My take, fwiw, is that because he’s come relatively late to the team he won’t have been part of the pre-season teams which makes it harder for him. Also, from the matches so far, our manager is still trying to work out a midfield and attack from the many options he has. The defence has played well with partnerships forming but the midfield places especially are still up for grabs. I’d expect Garrett to start and play the whole match against Spurs midweek in the cup match. Have a very good match and he’ll maybe force himself into the team v Stockport. Sounds a very good prospect. UTG!

Jake put himself about when coming on as a Sub and showed glimpses of what he is about, I think he will feature more regularly as the season progresses, particularly if Hutchinson struggles to bed in and find form. Mola (for me) is one of our best players over the past 3 games, strong & determined, I think will be a regular starter.
