Starmer given a Rovers shirt with "change 24" on the back.
Should the club be actively supporting a political party?

Well in the current climate,I don't think having Israel and Palestine flags displayed is a very good idea.

I find it hard to believe even Bristol Rovers would be so stupid as to openly support a political party, perhaps especially with the election coming up and how a certain party sees Britain and the world.
It just seems crass.
Edit. Right,so now I know Sir Kier turned up at the Mem yesterday,on the campaign trail. Rovers hav'nt actually nailed any political colours to the mast. It's business. We need planning permission for the Mem.Etc.

Posting similar sentiments on the Guardian website will have the snowflakes instinctively reaching for their 'cancel' safety button and running to their nearest 'safe space'. I think the Labour Party actually has a nerve to seek the endorsement of the British electorate given that it puts forward candidates who openly despise the country, its history and the majority of its population, and I don't want it anywhere near my football club. I say this as somebody who had great admiration for the likes of Tony Benn and Michael Foot. I also have time for Marvin Rees. Seeing the likes of Khan push their nasty, pernicious agenda under the guise of diversity politics is nauseating, and some of the stuff that has been allowed to happen in London after the October events is disgusting and embarrassing beyond words.

Etc The problem about BLM was that it was never about equality, in the tradition of the US civil rights movement. It always had a very different agenda, which was about pushing a nasty, sectarian and divisive anti-white agenda under the guise of 'diversity'. Ironically, it has also, in giving rise to the view that there are different levels of racism, actually legitimised openly racist opinions and viewpoints. You saw the case of that cricketer who made a big show of being a victim while hoping people forgot the vicious anti-Semitic bile he previously posted on social media? Diane Abbott also obviously comes to mind here.

Disgusting bunch of tricksters.

Starmer given a Rovers shirt with "change 24" on the back. Should the club be actively supporting a political party? Obviously not. I bet that never happened. Or so I thought. Sorry I doubted you, syg. x.com/itvwestcountry/status/1802748041130287353?s=19What an absolute state. Unless this was a two/multiparty hustings they all enjoyed, this is a really stupid thing for the club to do. As a Gas socialist or not, that's absolute rubbish by Rovers, and large numbers of Bristolians will think it stinks. Whatever next? Edit: I've re-read more sympathetic comments above, and you may have a point. I suspect that point will be lost on many, though, who will be simply turned off. Al Qadi used to embarrass me every time he cropped up on Twitter with a Rovers shirt autograph hunting someone nothing to do with Bristol or Rovers. Hence my revulsion.

This is not a first for Rovers.
Keir Hardie visited Eastville when Darlo was a boy.

I do remember Charlotte Leslie being adorned in a Rovers shirt under the benign gaze of Nick Higgs, but that wasn't in the run-up to an election and she was a local MP. You are entirely right - I remember Wael doing his fan boy act with Ozil, who is well-known for having close ties to Erdogan (the Turkish leader was even best man at his wedding). If the club was being run properly, we would be keeping a distance from all political parties in the run-up to the general election.

Keir Starmer insists football bill is priority for Labour during Bristol Rovers visit..By Daniel Hargraves.
Sir Keir Starmer visited the Memorial Stadium alongside Thangam Debbonaire to discuss Labour's plans for the football governance billi2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9349501.ece/ALTERNATES/s1176b/0_BRI_PG_170624starmer-306.jpgSir Keir Starmer has insisted that, should Labour win power in next month's general election, his government would pass the pending football governance bill "as quickly as is practicable". The calling of the general election for July 4 halted the process of pushing the bill through parliament, which means it will have to be picked up by the next government if it is to be passed. Following the Fan Led Review of Football Governance, the UK government confirmed in 2022 that it would legislate to form a new independent regulator in English football in order to ensure that the football pyramid remains sustainable with big issues such as the demise of Bury FC in 2019 or the proposed European Super League that six Premier League clubs initially joined in 2021. Sir Keir Starmer made the comments during a visit to Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium on Monday afternoon (June 17) alongside Bristol Central Labour candidate Thangam Debbonaire. His visit was an opportunity for him to highlight Labour’s plans to reform football governance and put fans front and centre of the future of English football. He was adamant that passing the bill is a priority should he become the country's next Prime Minister. Speaking to Bristol Live he said: "As quickly as is practicable [passing the bill].We're committed to it. We've committed to it from very early on when Tracey Crouch first did her review before there was legislation so we've long believed in the independent regulator. We had got quite a long way with the bill as it was with amendments down. "Some of the clubs are already talking to us about how there needs to be some tweaks to that so we just need to listen to that but we're committed to doing this because football is so important. "We will do it. We're going to do it as soon as we can and obviously we've put a lot of work into the bill as it was but it fell so we'll pick that up." i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9349499.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/2_BRI_PG_170624starmer-335.jpgBack in March the Premier League shelved plans to agree a new £900million funding package for EFL clubs, which both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers are part of, as they prioritised sorting their own spending rules ahead of helping clubs further down the pyramid. Asked about how an independent regulator would be able to ensure that doesn't happen again, Mr Starmer added: "It's really important that those deals go through because for clubs like Bristol Rovers and other clubs, it's vital that they get that support. We need to look at the role of the regulator in that. The ascribed role at the moment doesn't have a back stop so we need to look at that. "It is vital that those deals go through. Things like a breakaway league will impact on that which is why we've been very clear on no breakaway. But also we need that support pyramid because we all understand how vital that is for clubs and we want to make sure that, yes the Premier League continues to be the best league in the world, but also that throughout football we've got the support for the clubs that are viable so that they can get the staff and the infrastructure that they need and of course for bringing young people through."

The comments I made, this one from Jeff and others show us why politics must stay out of football. I know Rovers have been infiltrated by some far Left people and I hope they don't push their luck. The J o s e p h debate will seem like 'strawberries and cream' compared to opening the Pandoras Box of politics at our football matches.

The attitude or excuse is the strange assertion that the far Right got involved ,or tried to,in the 70s.So it's okay for them to come along and do their far Lefty thing. As I said,I hope they don't push their luck.
