Six Nations 2024: Warren Gatland makes seven Wales changes to face England..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/158B8/production/_132584288_cdf_041123_ml_wales_v_barbarians_041.jpg George North will be only the fifth Wales player to make 50 championship appearances when he takes the field against England
George North returns from injury to play for Wales against England at Twickenham on Saturday as one of seven changes to the team beaten by Scotland. The fit-again centre will be making his 50th Six Nations appearance. Ioan Lloyd and Tomos Williams, who helped spark last weekend's comeback in the 27-26 defeat by Scotland, are rewarded with starts. The entire starting front-row changes with Gareth Thomas, Elliot Dee and Keiron Assiratti all selected. Flanker Alex Mann, who scored a try against Scotland, gets his first Test start. It is a first Test start at fly-half for Lloyd while Dafydd Jenkins continues as captain. Scrum-half Gareth Davies is dropped from the matchday squad while Owen Watkin makes way for North. Sam Costelow (neck), Leon Brown (shoulder) and James Botham (knee) are injured. Prop Corey Domachowski and hooker Ryan Elias step down to a bench that includes uncapped Bath tight-head prop Archie Griffin. Cai Evans could also make his Six Nations debut as a replacement and is joined by Dragons team-mate Taine Basham and Scarlets scrum-half Kieran Hardy. Replacement lock Will Rowlands, who missed last week following the birth of his child, is set to make his first Six Nations appearance since 2022. North, 31, becomes only the fifth Welshman to play 50 championship games, following Martyn Williams, Stephen Jones, Gethin Jenkins and Alun Wyn Jones. Full-back Cameron Winnett wins only his second cap while Josh Adams escapes punishment after being singled out by Gatland for a petulant and costly penalty against Scotland. Wales team to face England: Winnett; Dyer, North, Tompkins, Adams; Lloyd, Williams; G Thomas, Dee, Assiratti, Jenkins (capt), Beard, Mann, Reffell, Wainwright. Replacements: Elias, Domachowski, Griffin, Rowlands, Basham, Hardy, Evans, Grady.

Six Nations 2024: England starting XV unchanged for Wales game at Twickenham..By Chris Jones, BBC rugby union correspondent.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/08/12/81014925-0-image-a-6_1707396962669.jpgEngland have named an unchanged starting XV for Saturday's Six Nations match with Wales at Twickenham. It is the first time England have fielded an unchanged starting team since the World Cup final in 2019. In the one change to the squad from the win in Italy, vice-captain Ellis Genge returns from injury to make the bench. "We're delighted to be back playing in front of a sold-out Twickenham Stadium this Saturday," said head coach Steve Borthwick. "The visit of the Wales team is always a fixture that creates a special atmosphere." Borthwick named a fresh-looking side for the Six Nations opener against Italy last weekend, with five players making their international debuts in the 27-24 win. The England boss has therefore opted for continuity as his side look to build on the win in Rome. "With a new player group and a number of new caps, we have tried to develop our game on both sides of the ball," Borthwick added. "Such changes take time, and I was pleased how quickly the players settled and adapted last weekend against Italy." Prop Genge was a late withdrawal from the squad to face the Azzurri, but has recovered from a foot injury and replaces Beno Obano. Experienced Fly-half George Ford keeps his starting place after guiding England to victory in Rome, with Fin Smith among the replacements. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/D501/production/_132592545_gettyimages-1987569411.jpgGeorge Ford will continue to lead England's attack from fly-half against Wales"It was a good start, you always want to start the Six Nations with a win," vice-captain Ford, who shares the role with Genge, told BBC 5 live Breakfast. "There are many positives in it for me, the way it felt on the field, the way we had the endeavour to play with the ball and the way we responded to a few setbacks. "But having said that we need to be a lot better at the same time, we need to maybe be a bit more consistent in all areas to build the game better and score more points. "That's what we are going after this week." Meanwhile, Wales were dominated for 45 minutes by Scotland in Cardiff, before scoring a remarkable 26 unanswered points in the second half and narrowly losing 27-26. Ford says he expects Wales to fix their issues that were so prevalent before half-time and believes Warren Gatland's side will produce a markedly improved display from the start this weekend. "We'll be preparing for the best version of the Wales team, 100%. You saw how dangerous they were in the second half," he added. "The probability of them fixing up what happened in the first half is high, of course it is. "So we have to prepare for the best version of Wales from the very start of the game, and we understand they are a team that never go away, they never stop, they fight and fight and fight. "So we need a full-80 minute performance this weekend." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/08/12/80810353-13061131-George_Ford_kicked_five_penalties_and_a_conversion_as_England_tu-a-11_1707397055776.jpg England: Steward; Freeman, Slade, Dingwall, Daly; Ford, Mitchell; Marler, George (capt), Stuart, Itoje, Chessum, Roots, Underhill, Earl. Replacements: Dan, Genge, Cole, Coles, Cunningham-South, Care, F Smith, Feyi-Waboso

Six Nations 2024: Wales have 'nothing to lose' against England, says Danny Care..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16010/production/_132582109_gettyimages-1985358804.jpg Danny Care could win his 98th cap against Wales on SaturdayWales have "nothing to lose" when they play England at Twickenham on Saturday, says scrum-half Danny Care. Warren Gatland's inexperienced side put in a strong second-half showing in their opening defeat by Scotland in Cardiff last weekend. Wales have not won at Twickenham in the Six Nations since 2012. "They have some young lads full of talent coming to Twickenham to play their first game," Care told the BBC Rugby Union Daily podcast. "They are a young team with nothing to lose or nothing to fear. We respect them." England have won eight of their last 10 championship games against the Welsh. However, Care was part of the England matchday squad which lost out on the title with defeat against Gatland's side in 2013 in Cardiff. A win was needed to secure an English Grand Slam, but Wales ruthlessly won 30-3 to clinch the Six Nations. "Some of my best and worst memories have been playing against Wales," the 37-year-old Harlequin added. "You try to embrace it. We talked about it a bit last night, about being back in Twickenham and facing one of your fearsome longest rivals that we have massive amounts of respect for. "This is the game you want to play in and you want your friends and family there to make them proud. "Every time you play against Wales it is an incredible Test match and really physical and feisty."

Six Nations 2024: Jamie George will be 'very emotional' leading England against Wales..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/D335/production/_132596045_gettyimages-1983524544.jpg Jamie George was named England captain before the start of the Six Nations following Owen Farrell's decision to take a break from Test rugbyEngland captain Jamie George expects to be "very emotional" when he leads out the team for the first time in a Six Nations match at Twickenham. George's reign as skipper began with victory in Rome, but he says walking out at a sold-out home of English rugby to face Wales will be "special". "It's huge. It's a dream come true," George told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Being at Twickenham, singing the anthem and that walkout will be a very emotional moment for me." George, who will win his 87th cap on Saturday, added: "I never thought I would be in this position." England were beaten in a World Cup warm-up game by Fiji in their last match at Twickenham, five months after slumping to their record home defeat against France in the Six Nations. England are unchanged from their opening win over Italy and George, 33, says the players are excited about the visit of rivals Wales. "I think it's special it's against Wales. The first thing you think of is the history of the fixture," said George. "Our recent record at Twickenham has been poor and we have been very outspoken about how we want Twickenham to be great again, so we have the responsibility to do that and what a privilege that is. "Usually on Monday we have a tactical meeting about the rugby stuff but [head coach] Steve [Borthwick] parked that for a bit this week to talk about the opportunity we have to be back at home against Wales and we touched on the emotion. "Then the senior players took over, which was great. "We have extended the walk [to the stadium] from the bus and there have been changes in the changing room, which will hopefully make a difference to the team."

"We had so much thrown at us in that game, we said the bare minimum this England team is going to show is fight and character. "Going down to 13 men we scrapped our way through, the control we showed there is huge - positive signs for me. "Doing things our way, the England way. "The set-piece got a bit more control and we were not afraid to play and scored some good tries. We threatened the Welsh line and our defence is looking a lot better and that is what we want to base our game on. "Confidence and belief in what we are doing, we love defending. It is what this English team is going to be about going forward." On the fans: "We have been so outspoken that the record at Twickenham has not been good enough. We want to change things and relate to the crowd. "Show some passion and belief playing for England, I want to thank everyone for their support, it is special." England head coach Steve Borthwick, speaking to ITV: "I think it was a hard fought game I am proud for the players. "This is a team which stays in the fight, it is a young side and we have a lot to learn, but we will grow together." On the first half: "In so many ways a lot of the things in the first half was good, we had two players leave the field with sin-bins. "There was a penalty count of 6-0 to Wales. Other than the late play it was 7-5 to Wales, until they scored their try. "Half-time we were very composed and clear what we need to do and we had belief we would go on and find a way." On the second half: "In some ways we stepped forward and showed the depth of the squad in certain positions, Theo Dan and Chandler Cunningham-South came on and added. "The first thing is that players enjoy this one and we talked about the significance of England against Wales before the game. It is important we respect that and enjoy the moment first."

Six Nations 2024: Scotland denied by late TMO call as France hold on for 20-16 win..By Colin Moffat, BBC Scotland.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/10/17/81101059-13068489-image-a-56_1707585595513.jpgScotland were denied by an inconclusive last-gasp try review as France held on to win a tense Six Nations encounter at Murrayfield. Replays suggested the ball was grounded in a huge heap of bodies, but referee Nic Berry had called no-try and the TV pictures could not conclusively prove otherwise. Louis Bielle-Biarrey produced the decisive score in a cagey second half after Ben White and Gael Fickou traded tries in a first half the hosts had much the better of. Scotland may feel they were ultimately robbed of victory - a fifth at home in succession - but they really should have been further ahead by half-time. "I believe it was a try," said Scotland captain Finn Russell. "But it's up to the referee." Exasperated head coach Gregor Townsend added: "We were celebrating in the coaches' box. We could hear the TMO's conversation with the referee, saying 'the ball was on the foot, then the ball was down' and then he changes his mind and says 'stick with the on-field decision'. I don't know what you can say." Listen to the BBC Radio Scotland Rugby Podcast Both teams sit on one win after Scotland's nervous success in Wales, while France recovered from a record home defeat by Ireland. France have now won 10 of their past 12 Six Nations matches, only coming up short against the defending champions in that run. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/10/17/81103453-13068489-image-a-46_1707587628112.jpgScotland head coach Gregor Townsend: "You've got to win the game and not put it in the hands of TMOs and referees and that is what we will work on. "We were in control of the game and in control most of the way in tough conditions. We had to play a different way and I'm really disappointed we didn't win the game. We felt we won the game - we saw the ball on the tryline. "There is a lot to be proud of but disappointing not to get the win. Harry Paterson was great, one of the best debuts I've seen. To perform like that when you've got four hours' preparations, maybe less, shows the quality of player he is. He was on it and it shows he's a real talent. "The players are doing well, leading for 75 minutes today and 80 minutes last week. England [at home next] is our biggest game of the season."

Six Nations 2024: Ireland v Italy match preview - Live on ITV 1 -3pm ko.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2B48/production/_132608011_gettyimages-1973657913.jpg Ireland fly-half Jack Crowley impressed on his first Six Nations start in Marseille last weekIreland's quest for back-to-back Grand Slams continues against an improving Italy at Aviva Stadium on Sunday. The Irish began their Six Nations title defence in spectacular fashion with their biggest ever away win over France in the tournament opener. Italy led England at the break in Rome but faded in the second half as they fell to a narrow three-point defeat. The visitors have lost their past 14 Tests against Ireland and have never won a Six Nations match in Dublin. View from both camps
Ireland assistant coach Mike Catt: "For Italy to turn around and put in a performance like that against a good England side was very impressive. They are obviously trying to impress the new coach [Gonzalo Quesada] as well. "I think with Quesada they'll tighten things up a little bit but they caused England some serious problems by scoring some very, very good tries. "It's a team that really work hard for each other, especially defensively. Their work-rate off the ball is huge. We need to make sure we do our bits and pieces right to try and break that down." Italy head coach Gonzalo Quesada: "Two elements will be missing in the forward department compared to the previous match, but we have a young group that wants to emerge. "In Dublin the focus will be on our performance and try to take a new step in our growth against one of the strongest teams in the world. "We have a tough game ahead and it will be crucial to be able to stay lucid throughout the game." Line-ups
Ireland: 15-Keenan; 14-Nash, 13-Henshaw, 12-McCloskey, 11-Lowe; 10-Crowley, 9-Casey; 1-Porter, 2-Sheehan, 3-Bealham, 4-McCarthy, 5-Ryan, 6-Baird, 7-Doris (capt), 8-Conan. Six Nations 2024: Ireland 36-0 Italy - Irish secure comfortable bonus-point win in Dublin..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/15F41/production/_132612998_gettyimages-1975822251.jpg
Report By Matt Gault, BBC Sport NI at Aviva Stadium.Ireland maintained their push for successive Six Nations Grand Slams with a comfortable, if sometimes scrappy, bonus-point win over Italy in Dublin. First-half tries from Jack Crowley, Dan Sheehan and Jack Conan put the Irish 19-0 up at half-time. Sheehan added his second to give Ireland the bonus point before Robbie Henshaw had a score ruled out. But James Lowe scored the pick of the tries before Calvin Nash capped Ireland's win late on. While this Irish performance will not live long in the memory, it maintains their momentum going into a rest week before hosting Wales on 24 February as they bid to become the first side since France in 1998 to win back-to-back Grand Slams. For Italy, it is another dispiriting visit to Dublin and a hugely disappointing performance after giving England a scare in their opening match in Rome last week. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/10/db15935d-7ae2-4456-b054-7aa597885455.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/10/8bac4e83-9060-45c3-8d68-697aad52f9ed.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/08850eec-6f09-4832-aa9d-4c3ddc7a5869.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/326aae58-0125-4dc9-a64a-3b9786941fd5.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/52c8713f-40f8-4683-beb3-8841a02119d0.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/d47dc05f-4afe-45ec-9f40-60d11cf60a19.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/51babbd3-5aa2-45c0-8cb3-147ca3b174aa.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/387abcc8-2dfd-47c2-a7ec-b220d3d24375.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/3106c1ce-1151-4666-b18a-c3188ab90ff5.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/a8de8e25-aacb-4aee-8eb8-495b8daa6e76.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/23d714dd-14e4-4070-9a54-c674c74c007c.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/ad33422b-4368-45f9-b3c9-58cbe48d0693.jpgIreland head coach Andy Farrell, speaking to ITV Sport: "We're happy enough and we got what we wanted in the game with a bonus-point win. Keeping them to zero is very pleasing and there was some nice tries out there and some nice performances by individuals. "We got a bit clunky in parts but they are tricky enough to play against. They (Italy) have changed the way that they play, they are a little more pragmatic so you have to find different ways of getting the ball back. "I thought we were trying to be too tidy at times, just playing with shape when we broke them down with a bit of individual brilliance. We need to back ourselves a little bit more as far as that is concerned. We looked dangerous." Ireland head coach Andy Farrell, speaking to ITV Sport about James Lowe: "He played really well, didn't he? He looked very strong. I think our scrum was man of the match, to be fair. It was a lovely weapon and we backed up our line-out performance from last week as well. "It's good they are up and running. We keep the competition where it should be, but the competition only gets going from here on in." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/11/cb2970b7-36a2-4feb-8d5c-de20cc4eee27.png

Six Nations 2024: Jamie George says England's game against Scotland will be a 'special one' following mother's death..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3120/production/_127767521_george_getty.jpgEngland captain Jamie George says Saturday's Six Nations game against Scotland will be a "special one" following the death of his mother. The hooker's mother, Jane, died last week but George has decided to play because she "would have wanted me to". "I am so lucky that we have a great group of people here," he told Rugby Union Daily. "It is going to be special with the rest of my family in the stands. My parents never missed a game." The Saracens hooker, 33, was named England captain before the Six Nations following Owen Farrell's decision to step away. "Sadly she never saw me captain England because she was too ill to be there but every other game she was there," he added. "Many of the highlights of her life were watching me play rugby for England and it will be amazing to do that again on Saturday. "Mum was probably the biggest England rugby fan there could ever be and I take great joy that she had a lot of happiness following me around the world. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14651/production/_130773538_gettyimages-1595649068.jpg"She loved the boys, she loved watching me play and I want to continue making her proud." George, who participated in an open training session at Twickenham two days after his mum's death, paid tribute to England head coach Steve Borthwick and his team-mates for their support. "It was important for me and my family that I came back into camp and to put my best foot forward and be involved," added George. "If I can take one bit of confidence over the last nine or 10 days, it is that if we look after people the way the lads have looked after me, that is a sign of a really positive team. "It's been incredible the way they've looked after me. From Steve and the doctor here, and also the boys, they have given me time and space when I have needed it. Steve has been checking in with me pretty much every day to see how I am. They have been amazing."

Six Nations 2024: England picking George Furbank 'very unlike Steve Borthwick' - Monye..By Joe Rindl, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B343/production/_132719854_gettyimages-1988300437.jpg George Furbank has won six caps for England since making his debut in January 2020England's decision to start George Furbank at full-back against Scotland is an "attack-minded selection" but "very unlike Steve Borthwick", says former England wing Ugo Monye. Head coach Borthwick has dropped Freddie Steward for Saturday's Six Nations match at Murrayfield. Furbank, 27, has been in superb form for Premiership leaders Northampton. "Furbank just raises the potential of the attack in this team," Monye told the BBC Rugby Union Daily podcast. "I really rate Steward and when he's played for England he's been very good, he's very dependable. "Furbank coming in at 15 heightens the ability of England to be able to attack, and be more coherent, dangerous and score more points. "This is an attack-minded selection, the only reason I'm surprised by it is that it's very unlike [head coach] Steve Borthwick. This England team wants to move on and progress. This could be a real point of difference for England." England arrive at Murrayfield having narrowly won two from two against Italy and Wales in this year's Six Nations. Borthwick's side have won eight of their past nine Test matches. Their only defeat was a one-point loss in the World Cup semi-final against eventual champions South Africa. England's head coach is considered to be conservative in his approach to the game but he made another surprise selection when he dropped Steward and played Marcus Smith at full-back for a game at last year's World Cup, rather than in his usual fly-half role. Steward has been a consistent presence for England in the number 15 shirt since his debut in 2021, but Furbank, set to win his seventh cap, offers extra speed and playmaking abilities. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1402C/production/_131646918_gettyimages-1752040222.jpgFreddie StewardHe made his debut against France in 2020, later admitting he was disappointed with his own performance as England lost 24-17 in Paris. Six days later Furbank was part of the England side who beat Scotland 13-6in awful weather conditions - England's last Calcutta Cup win. "There's a couple of bits I've been working on and I feel like I'm in a better place as an all-round player," Furbank told BBC Sport. "I've got a bit bigger, that has helped my game. I've taken up more of a leadership role at Saints. "I'm quite realistic with myself, I know that I'm not a player who can be in average form and make an England squad. "I don't necessarily think I saw the selection coming. Freddie [Steward] has been in great form the last few games, playing really well. "His consistency is something I strive for as well. That's something I want to develop in my game."

Six Nations 2024: Ireland v Wales match preview and team news..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/021C/production/_132704500_gettyimages-2007211552.jpg Ireland head coach Andy Farrell is expecting a "scrap" against WalesIreland continue their bid to become the first team in the Six Nations era to win back-to-back Grand Slams when they host Wales in Dublin today. Ireland are aiming to replicate their clean sweep last year and face a Wales side they have beaten in six of the last seven meetings. Wales' title ambitions are over after two defeats, although head coach Warren Gatland says they are improving. The losses against England and Scotland were by margins of two points or less. Ireland have been in impressive form following their disappointing World Cup campaign, emphatically defeating France and Italy so far in this tournament. Andy Farrell's men are on a national record run of 17 successive wins in home Test matches, while they could become only the second nation, after England, to win 11 successive games in the history of the Home, Five or Six Nations. Wales, conversely, are on a wretched run of form in this championship, losing nine of their last 10 matches - although five of those defeats have been by four points or fewer. Gatland's side have not won a Six Nations fixture in Dublin in 12 years. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1138C/production/_132704507_f7471df1-da53-4a26-bbaa-0b6949ca7ee3.jpgTeam news Ireland: The hosts make seven changes, having used their formidable strength in depth to rest several key men for the rout of Italy in round two. Leinster's Ciaran Frawley makes a first Test start in the place of injured full-back Hugo Keenan - his two previous caps have come as a replacement, including the final four minutes versus France. Captain Peter O'Mahony, prop Tadhg Furlong and centre Bundee Aki return following injuries, while lock Tadhg Beirne, scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park and flanker Josh van der Flier are also recalled. Uncapped Munster prop Oli Jager is among the replacements, while Garry Ringrose remains out. Wales: The visitors have made just one change to the starting XV who lost at Twickenham, with fly-half Sam Costelow replacing Scarlets team-mate Ioan Lloyd. There are two further changes among the replacements: uncapped Cardiff number eight Mackenzie Mann is preferred to Taine Basham, while Harlequins prop Dillon Lewis comes in for the injured Archie Griffin. Twelve of the visiting 23, including seven starters, will be playing their first Six Nations match in Dublin. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9C0F/production/_132715993_bbc-sport-customisable-table-169--3514c7c2-f0ce-4aa6-96e4-8dcc8e2d98c3.pngLine-ups Ireland: 15-Frawley, 14-Nash, 13-Henshaw, 12-Aki, 11-Lowe, 10- Crowley, 9-Gibson-Park; 1-Porter, 2-Sheehan, 3-Furlong, 4-McCarthy, 5-Beirne, 6-O'Mahony (capt), 7-Van der Flier, 8-Doris. Six Nations 2024: Scotland v England match preview and team news..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1928/production/_132704460_52ff35787c2a3cfa9c99ddeac4dd0bee74203b59.jpgHaving become accustomed to losing to England, Scotland have enjoyed the Calcutta Cup bragging rights of late. They are aiming to win four matches in a row against the Red Rose in the various guises of this championship for the first time since the 19th century. Saturday's Six Nations game is vital for Scotland after losing to France in a controversial finish in round two. However, England are also harbouring tentative title ambitions after opening with two narrow victories. England travel to Edinburgh as one of only two unbeaten teams left in the tournament but have not won at Murrayfield since edging a tight affair in terrible weather conditions during their most recent title-winning campaign four years ago. Scotland are still smarting after a decisive last-gasp try was denied by the officials last time out against France, and the home team must defeat their oldest rivals to retain any hope of winning a first Six Nations crown. They are boosted by excellent form in this fixture - since taking over as Scotland's head coach, Gregor Townsend has lost just one of six meetings with England. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/512D/production/_132718702_c250ed4b-779a-407c-8fcd-80bbbce603e2.jpgTeam news Scotland: Jamie Ritchie has been restored to the starting XV having being dropped from the squad for the defeat by France. The recently deposed captain is back in the side at blind-side flanker in place of Matt Fagerson, as one of three changes made by Townsend. Full-back Blair Kinghorn returns after a knee issue and wing Kyle Steyn is included after having to pull out at the last minute against France as his wife was in labour. Fagerson and backs Kyle Rowe and Harry Paterson are left out of the squad, with the bench unchanged. England: The visitors have made five changes including the surprise choice of George Furbank at full-back, with Freddie Steward dropping out of the matchday squad. Furbank, however, did start at full-back when England won at Murrayfield in 2020. Centre Ollie Lawrence is also included after recovering from injury and comes in for Fraser Dingwall. Scrum-half Danny Care makes his first Six Nations start in six years in place of the injured Alex Mitchell. Dan Cole and Ellis Genge are the starting props with Joe Marler and Will Stuart dropping to the bench, where they are joined by fit-again lock George Martin. Captain Jamie George plays just over a week after the death of his mother Jane, who he described as probably the biggest England rugby fan there could ever be. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9922/production/_132720293_bbc-sport-customisable-table-169--3514c7c2-f0ce-4aa6-96e4-8dcc8e2d98c3.pngLine-ups Scotland: 15-Kinghorn, 14-Steyn, 13-Jones, 12-Tuipulotu, 11-Van der Merwe, 10-Russell (co-capt), 9-White; 1-Schoeman, 2-Turner, 3-Fagerson, 4-Gilchrist, 5-Cummings, 6-Ritchie, 7-Darge (co-capt), 8-Dempsey Replacements: 16-Ashman, 17-Hepburn, 18-Millar-Mills, 19-Skinner, 20-Christie, 21-Horne, 22-Healy, 23-Redpath England: 15-Furbank, 14-Freeman, 13-Slade, 12-Lawrence, 11-Daly; 10-Ford, 9-Care; 1-Genge, 2- George (capt), 3-Cole, 4-Itoje, Chessum, Roots, Underhill, 8-Earl Replacements: 16-Dan, 17-Marler, 18-Stuart, 19-Martin, 20-Cunningham-South, 21-Spencer, 22-Smith, 23-Feyi-Waboso Match officialsReferee: Andrew Brace (Ireland) Touch judges: Chris Busby (Ireland) & Eoghan Cross (Ireland) TMO: Marius Jonker (South Africa)

Guinness Six Nations 2024 - Result - Saturday 24th February - Ireland 31-7 Wales
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7910/production/_132729903_gettyimages-2028184902.jpg Wales put Ireland under pressure after Beirne's yellow card before the hosts regained their composure to seal another bonus-point victoryIreland 31-7 Wales - Holders make it three bonus-point wins from three..By Matt Gault, BBC Sport NI at Aviva Stadium.Ireland moved closer to completing back-to-back Six Nations Grand Slams with an unconvincing bonus-point win over a spirited Wales side in Dublin. Dan Sheehan's opening try and a James Lowe score had the hosts 17-0 up after a dominant first-half display. Welsh hopes of a shock win were boosted when they were awarded a penalty try early in the second half as Ireland's Tadhg Beirne was sin-binned. But Ciaran Frawley eased home nerves before Beirne bagged the bonus point. The win means Ireland have equalled England's Six Nations record of 11 consecutive victories and remain on course to become the first team since France in 1998 to secure back-to-back Grand Slams. For Wales, it is a third successive defeat but they were not blown away as some had predicted, and can take positives from a spirited second-half showing in which they caused their hosts problems, but lacked the cutting edge to really eat into the deficit. Guinness Six Nations 2024 - Result - Saturday 24th February - Scotland 30 England 21.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/24/17/81669639-0-image-a-25_1708796641017.jpgScotland 30-21 England - Duhan van der Merwe hat-trick sinks visitors at Murrayfield..By Colin Moffat, BBC Scotland. Duhan van der Merwe became the first Scotland player to score a Calcutta Cup hat-trick as the hosts racked up a fourth successive Six Nations victory over England at Murrayfield. The powerful winger scored two incredible tries at Twickenham last year and went one better this time. George Furbank and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso enjoyed their first England tries, but Van der Merwe stole the show with his clinical prowess, while Finn Russell was perfect with the boot to keep Scotland out of reach in a largely scruffy contest. Both teams sit on two wins from three, with Scotland away to Italy next and England at home to unbeaten defending champions Ireland. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/24/17/81669701-0-image-a-27_1708796811391.jpgQueen Victoria was the monarch when Scotland last managed four wins in a row against England in this competition in 1896. And Gregor Townsend's record as head coach against England now stands at five wins and a draw from seven meetings. With those stats, Scotland were slight favourites against opponents who had edged out Italy and Wales, but the home crowd were quiet after 15 minutes, with their team trailing 10-0 and making error after error. Then Van der Merwe burst into life to light up this 130th edition of the Calcutta Cup. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/24/17/81670033-0-image-a-28_1708797391247.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1845/production/_132731260_mediaitem132731258.jpg
