What a great signing that we didn't know at the time. You have to give credit to previous bods for that.
Well done to CM himself for working hard to get himself into a position to compete fitness-wise.
He's scored so many important goals, my fav so far lobbing the keeper (after an offside hand ball by super Johnny Marquis) to rescue a point v Stevenage!
How nice would it be for a new contract offer to coincide FA cup, v Norwich City? A club where he made his name. What could possibly happen as we've seen a fairy tale or two recently?

Bristol Rovers striker linked with Bristol City and QPR return as Hull City block transfer and Wolves rumour debunked..by Jordan Jones.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9005062.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_Chris-Martin-goal.jpgBristol Rovers could be braced for a transfer battle this month as two Championship clubs reportedly consider a move for Chris Martin, according to the national media. According to the paper edition of the Mirror, Martin's former clubs Bristol City and QPR are interested in re-signing Martin. The 35-year-old only left Loftus Road in the summer having joined them on a short-term contract following his release from City. QPR and City are said to be monitoring the situation, however there is also said to be a top League One side interested. The 17-time Scotland international is based in Bristol having played for the Robins from 2020 to 2023 before his contract was terminated. His deal with Rovers is up in the next fortnight, and there has been no progress made on extending his short-term contract. "It [the situation] hasn't changed," said Martin to the Bristol Post following his brace against Charlton Athletic on December 29th. "My contract ends - I'm not even sure. The 20-something of January, whenever it was. I actually can't remember the exact date but nothing's changed. No words. I continue to do the job and see what happens." To date, Martin has got eight goals in 16 games for Rovers with most of his appearances coming off the substitute's bench. He was signed by Joey B***** after the Gas had missed out on signing Jonson Clarke-Harris, and the Gas will be reluctant to lose one of their leading players this month, especially to their inter-city rivals. It is seven-years since Matt Taylor made the move across the city from the Memorial Stadium to the Gate.

Wasn’t there an agreement that there would be no further transfer business between us and the 82 ?

Chris Martin's Bristol Rovers contract latest revealed after striker reaches double digits..by Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9048020.ece/ALTERNATES/s510b/0_3543292.jpgChris Martin scored his 10th goal of the season in Bristol Rovers' defeat to Blackpool on SaturdayMatt Taylor has revealed that a contract agreement to keep Chris Martin on at Bristol Rovers is "very close" in the aftermath of Saturday afternoon's 2-1 defeat at home to Blackpool in League One. The Gas found themselves 2-0 down within the first 19 minutes of the match following a poor start but halved the deficit as Martin found the back of the net with an outrageous flick to score his 10th league goal for the Gas since arriving as a free agent in late September. It isn't crystal clear when exactly the 35-year-old's current deal expires but the thought is that it could well be January 26th, marking exactly four months on from when he signed for the club. If that is to be the case, then as things stand Tuesday night's home game against Exeter City would be the final match the striker would be available for under his current terms. Asked whether there has been a solution regarding the veteran's contract situation, Taylor revealed: "I think there is. I don’t think it’s official yet but I think we’re very close to it. Same again he’s been one of our stand out performers in recent weeks and still we’ve got to get more service to him. The amount of crosses in the second half wasn’t enough. "When they take the strength of the middle of the pitch we’ve got to be able to work it out into wide areas so I’m sure he’s frustrated because he’ll be feeling that if he gets more service in the form that he’s in he’ll be a real handful. "We’ve also got to remember that having not done a pre-season, having a couple of games in quick succession will take its toll. Pre-season dictates everything in terms of how your season pans out but we’re asking him to do a certain job because he’s our best option at the top end of the pitch at this moment in time and he’s leading the line really well. "We’ve got to take some pressure off of him and other people really need to stand up and being counted in terms of that situation." As is always the case in January, rumours fly left, right and centre with the transfer window being open and supporters are obviously keen to know who Bristol Rovers are attempting to sign, or whether they're close to any additions. It did sound pre-match on Thursday that the Gas were very close to their first arrival of the transfer window but evidently that deal still hasn't been completed. However, there will be hope that some fresh faces will come through the door this coming week. Regarding positions, midfield is the obvious area that needs bolstering after loanees Ryan Woods and Lamare Bogarde returned to their parent clubs while Grant Ward is expected to be out injured until March while Sam Finley missed this afternoon's game through illness and has also battled on whilst having a hip issue. Asked about potential arrivals and whether midfield additions could be close, the Rovers manager added: "That’s what we’re looking to do. I think we need more than one. I think that’s apparent regardless of Grant Ward’s injury or Sam Finley’s absence. "I must say that I’m not sat here regretting sending those lads back to their parent clubs. I don’t think they'd have affected it in a positive way or have had a chance to affect it in a positive way this season up until this point so it’s all about who we can now bring into the building to improve us."

Alexa play Coldplay on now Great news It is good news. We never looked like scoring, last night. You couldn`t fault the effort that Marquis put in, but if he`d stayed on the pitch for ten minutes after everybody else had gone off, I don`t think he would have scored.

He knew offside had already been signalled. Fair point with the second. My comment was overly flippant, and I retract it. But from what I`ve seen of Marquis all season, I don`t think he`ll score enough goals to ever get us near the top end of the table.

A friend of mine is a Pompey fan and he said it’s always the same thing with Marquis - works his socks off but just doesn’t score enough.
