Potential new signing Connor Wickham age 30 released by Cardiff City and a free agent. He has previously represented Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Preston North End, Milton Keynes Dons & Forest Green Rovers.
Wickham has also played at various levels of international football for the England national team, and scored the winning goal in the 2010 UEFA European U17 Championship Final. Short term contract till January maybe?

If we do try to sign someone out of contract, then I think it should be someone who offers us something we don't currently have.
At the moment we are making pretty much like-for-like substitutions. With no JCH, or no Lofty, we have no one to change the style of game; no option for a more direct approach.

Googling "Connor Wickham controversy" gives some context as to why he's had more clubs than Tiger Woods, is only 30 and on the scrapheap. 3 yr contract at least!

What's not to like all strikers move where the money is and always in demand. Jefferson Louis aged 44 just joined his 42nd club Wickham long way to go to catch him up

jefferson louis, the veteran journeyman has just made a move to his 51st football team..by Neil Johnston, BBC Sport journalist.

Rovers Jefferson Louis Holds off The Challenge from Ollie Barnes.Ask Jefferson Louis how many clubs he has played for and he takes a pause before declaring: "I lost count years ago." Taking a glance down his list of former clubs, it is not hard to understand why he cannot remember. Thame United (three spells), Lewes, Weymouth (two spells), Gainsborough Trinity, Darlington, Brackley Town (two spells), Whitehawk, Lowestoft Town, Staines, Oxford United, Oxford City, St Albans City...the list goes on and on. Louis is football's ultimate journeyman, having changed clubs a remarkable 51 times since making his debut for Buckinghamshire club Risborough Rangers 28 years ago. And at the age of 45, the striker is showing no sign of slowing down. On Saturday, Louis is set to embark on his 29th season as a player when Oxfordshire club Thame United, where he is player-coach, play in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup. "I've played international football, played against my boyhood club Arsenal and I'm still playing at the age of 45," he says. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article2173344.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_Jefferson-gets-Pires-shirt.jpgArsenal fan Jefferson Louis swaps shirts with Robert Pires after the FA Cup 3rd Round match between Arsenal & Oxford United at Highbury on January 4th 2003
P.S...Jefferson played for BRFC in 9 games, scoring 0 goals in the 2004-05 season.

Will Evans Newport County to Mansfield Town it is expected A signing we’d have made perhaps in the past. Like all signings could be an inspired one or not. I see the BBC are saying close to £200,000. Wouldn’t have thought we’d have said no on that basis considering we’ve spent, or are meant to have spent, well over that for Omichere. Perhaps MT just didn’t want him. Tbh not sure what he is, is he quick, mobile or more old-school No. 9? Perhaps Omichere fits the way MT wants to play. UTG!

Matt Taylors review of the pre-season indicates he puts great store into a players character reference as well as there footballing ability.
Maybe some of those strikers suggested in the posts above would not have met MT's character reference requirement?
The current recruitment process appears to be working to a structured plan that has both cover for all positions while retaining some flexibility.
