If it stays 1.1 these are two credible opening results and performances imo

Much better performance 2nd half.
Should be 3 or 4 up.

What is wrong with Collins? He's having a mare.

Great performance but we still can't win at home unless it's a bank holiday. Hopefully that will change soon.

Another dreadful stat
Only won two home matches in 2023
Let that sink in and might realise how much improvement needs to be made.

Just got back..
I kinda predicted this earlier in thread!? (for once!)
What a lovely day seeing some of you again. Time has been kind to most of us. The start of another season at the Mem in the wet....does it get much better?! Also, welcome back and lovely to see, DC.... he's looking much better and welcomed like a hero with people scrambling for that handshake and selfie.. Much Gas love to him 💙
Atmos in Thatchers as flat as the clubhouse selling it (probably!?)....why? We had full house. Playing some ok football. Missed some guilt edged chances in front of them.. Apart from last 10 mins we could've been more vocally supportive...
Anyhoos, onto less important things...
Keeper..... might sound harsh, but not taking anything away from that ruthless finish, he really shouldn't have been beaten on near post.....no Belly in squad.....I just fear we lack experience in a critical area of the pitch. For me, the jury is out.
Full backs, both of them had average games. A shame Gordon couldn't press more, and Hoole was quite involved, but it's frustrating neither seemed to stop the crosses....which is worrying. I thought Hoole better of the two.
Central defenders had a gem of a game. So much so, Barnsley resorted to subbing a sulky Devante Cole and the number 36.... Connor Taylor was magnificent, as was his home debut sidekick from Brentford Crama, both never really had a sniff.
There's something going on with Evans. Not only is he forming an eye catching link play with LT and JM, but he's a bloody nuisance to defences as he had a free reign and played some important passes....if JM had his radar set more in focus, we could have been 2-1 up at half time courtesy of him with 2 delectable assists from AE. Nice game.
Ably supported by Grant Ward. He got his foot in and kept it simple.
Finley for me didn't have the best match.... and ceded captaincy to GW above on his rightful substitution.
.... which brings us on to the change of the match. As it appeared the clock was counted down, on comes Scotty and Josh Grant to completely turn the match in our favour and impose more dominant inertia, Aaron moves into the middle as was ineffective again as left winger....my only question is why it wasn't unleashed earlier?
Straight away there was balance, tempo, a feeling everyone knew where they had to be, more cohesion and dangerous to defend. Scotty got his goal. Could have had another. We played some exciting front foot passing football v a team that was top of league going into the match. LT, AE, AC, SS is a formidable attack force !?
So.... that's two live league matches I've watched. Much like many of you. But I honestly don't think we are just the 2points value. We have played some good stuff in both, created numerous chances against two teams with contrasting styles that are amongst the fav to challenge for promotion.
Nice start. Dare we dream?

Yes Jeff, A draw would be a great result, I’m going for 1-1, but any draw would be most welcome!. Heart = Draw Head = 3-0 to Barnsley, who, by the way, with ageing eyesight, have a badge that is most similar in shape and colour to a more recent team from 1982. You got it dead right, well done, so Charlton away tuesday will be what ?, i'm putting all my savings of £12.77 on your prediction...

Here we are again. Faces full of enthusiasm and optimism for the new season. What could possibly go wrong? Barnsley are a great test to where we need to be near to compete for something about success this year.. I'll plump for a fighting battling draw in the rainy mem. 1-1. The irony of a brighter outlook on a day when it's rainy without Bright!? Only at Rovers .. You got it dead right, well done, so Charlton away tuesday will be what ?, i'm putting all my savings of £12.77 on your prediction...have asked Taiwangas too.

Bristol Rovers 1-1 Barnsley - Bristol Rovers return to the Mem for their first home game of the 2023/24 season..by Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8637906.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/1_GettyImages-1243295690.jpgBristol Rovers made it consecutive 1-1 draws to start off the League One season, drawing at home to Barnsley thanks to a late equaliser from substitute Scott Sinclair. The Gas went behind early as Nick Cadden fired a fierce effort into the roof of the net but regathered and looked to shake off the setback. Both John Marquis and Aaron Collins had excellent chances to equaliser before the interval but couldn't find the back of the net with the hosts huffing and puffing throughout the second half. Andy Mangan's side got their just reward though as substitute Sinclair fired home the equaliser as well as having another two chances to score a winner. Player Ratings
Matt Cox: 7 Speculation can be made regarding the goal and conceding at his near post but realistically, it was an excellent finish. Excellent on the ball once again and picked out some beauties. Wasn't forced into a meaningful save. Luca Hoole: 7 Again, with the goal coming from down the right, potential question marks but looked confident and composed all game. Won some good challenges and also roamed forward and looked to put crosses into the box. Connor Taylor: 7 Solid Mem return for the young defender. Looked a lot more confident and composed than Wednesday and appeared to enjoy playing next to Tristan Crama. Potential partnership blossoming? Tristan Crama: 8 Another excellent display from the loanee. Won everything that came at him and pinged some beauties. He has to be a regular starter in this team. Lewis Gordon: 7 Always looked a threat going forward and solid defensively. Kept Barry Cotter quiet for most of the game. Grant Ward: 7 Some key interceptions and a handful to deal with for Barnsley. Also looked to get involved with the attack and could've potentially had himself a goal on another day. Sam Finley: 6 Solid once again and tried to take the game by the scruff and get Rovers on there way in the transition. Luke Thomas: 8 Once again, the most dangerous attacking player for Rovers. The architect of most of their best play and got an equaliser. Great start to the campaign for him. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/article8440417.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Salford_WC_-342.jpgAntony Evans: 7.5 Played like a man with a point to prove with it being his first start of the season. Heavily involved throughout, showing excellent quality in spell. If Brown's injury is a concern, he should now have a spell in the side. Came off the pitch to a deserved standing ovation. Aaron Collins: 6.5 Really should be leaving the Mem with a goal or an assist for his first half chance. The forward always looked to be involved in flurries forward and was a threat throughout. John Marquis: 6.5 Like Collins, should be leaving with a goal. Barnsley struggled to handle his physicality and his link up play was great once again. Substitutes: Scott Sinclair: 8 The substitute could've easily scored a hat-trick from the bench. Scored the crucial equaliser and had two good chances to add to his tally. Josh Grant: 6 Looked solid when he came on and tried to get himself involved whenever he could. Improvement will come the more he plays but he's heading down the right path. Luke McCormick: N/A Didn't have enough time to make an impact, coming on in added time.

'We've got a proper side here' - 'Frustrated' Andy Mangan reflects on Barnsley draw..by Daniel Hargraves.
Bristol Rovers equalised in the 81st minute but had dominated for most of the game.
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/article7930269.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_vs_Morecambe_AW_190.jpg Bristol Rovers first-team coach Andy Mangan Andy Mangan has admitted that he's 'frustrated' that Bristol Rovers didn't come away from their home opener against Barnsley with a win, drawing 1-1 despite dominating for the majority of the game. The Gas went behind early as former Forest Green Rovers winger Nicky Cadden fired an outrageous finish into the roof of Matt Cox's goal but responded well and, eventually, found a late equaliser through substitute Scott Sinclair despite having numerous other chances to score. Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol after the match, Mangan said: "I've seen games like that before. Frustrated not to get all three points and I think we dominated the game. But I think there's areas of improvement that we need to get better at. We're a possession-based team who can hit teams on the counter because we've got flyers up front. "When those chances come, we need to take them. Today we haven't so we've shared the points with Barnsley who are a really good side, someone that finished in the play-off final last season and they're fancied again this season. But purely based off of today's performance everyone should go away feeling unlucky that we haven't gotten all three points but the performance shows exactly what we're trying to do." The Rovers coach added: "On another day, which will happen, you may score three, four maybe even five goals. Today, unfortunately, we've only got the one but I think everyone goes home today wanting a little bit more but also realising that we've got a proper side here. I think we'll do really well this season. "I think the lads understand that as well and I think that's just stuff we've got to get better at on the training ground. There's no hiding from it. We just have to practice, we just have to believe. I believe we'll be really good." At times, some of the combination play between Rovers players was exquisite with Mangan admitting: "That's just something that we've been working at on the training ground. "I think we're into our eighth week now and they've took all the information. We can be miles better, by the way. I'm not sitting here thinking that we're the finished article. We can be miles better but the way we get the ball. go wide, create chances, hit you on the counter, it must be really difficult to prepare for us because I believe we're the full package. "But that only happens if you win. You have to win. It's alright saying we're doing all these things really well but good teams win. Until we win, it's difficult to fully praise the lads. I think they've been brilliant but there's so much more to come from them." The 36-year-old was also quizzed about the absences of James Wilson, Jevani Brown and James Belshaw with all missing from the matchday squad. On Wilson and Brown, Mangan confirmed that neither had serious injuries and will return soon but on Belshaw, the coach remained tight-lipped. "That's something that you'll have to speak to the manager about," he said following his final game in temporary charge amid Joey Barton's ban. "That's well above my pay grade unfortunately." Starting the season with four of the first five games of the season away from home isn't ideal with trips to Charlton Athletic and Cambridge United to come next week and the coach was full of praise for the Mem support, saying to Bristol Live: "Amazing. I have to be honest with you I thought the fans were incredible. They really drove us on to get that equaliser and very unlucky not to get the winner there. "But the fans must watch today and realise that they're in for a really exciting season. I think we've built an unbelievable squad here and I think that with the right belief and a little bit of time I think we'll be really good." The Gas now turn their attention to Tuesday evening's trip to Charlton on Tuesday as they look to claim their first victory of the season off the back of two impressive results and performances to start off the League One campaign.
