They'll sign him and then not play him, then he'll end up a loaned out journeyman. These large Premier League squads suck the life out of football. Let them buy him for more when he's ready for their number 1 jersey. Let him play every week for a bit longer.

Jed Ward makes anticipated loan switch from Bristol Rovers to South West National League side FGR..By Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9450627.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-2082121234-2.jpgBristol Rovers goalkeeper Jed Ward has joined National League side Forest Green Rovers on a season-long loan as the 21-year-old continues his development after a breakthrough campaign. The academy graduate has been expected to go out on loan for most of the summer with Matt Taylor confirming those plans two weeks ago after the club signed Josh Griffiths on loan from West Brom. Rovers had previously been close to signing Cameron Dawson from Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol Live understands, before Rotherham United swooped in for the experienced shot stopper. Ward started last term out on loan in the National League with Wealdstone before being recalled due to short numbers in November. The then-20-year-old soon found himself first choice for most of the second half of the campaign, making 18 league appearances. The young goalkeeper enjoyed a number of outstanding displays and went on to sign a new four-year contract with the Gas, emphasising how much of an asset the club see the academy product from Bradley Stoke. Those performances also saw him pick up the club's Young Player of the Season award and earn his first appearances for England Under-20s. Although many may have thought Ward would get a loan move to League Two, the goalkeeper is joining one of the early favourites for promotion from the fifth tier after Forest Green suffered back-to-back relegations over the past two campaigns. Additionally, the 21-year-old gets to remain local which should make the transition process a lot more smooth. There is no doubt that Rovers see the young goalkeeper as a future first choice but evidently Taylor and his staff seem to believe that he's not quite ready to be a first choice at this level and would benefit from a season as number one elsewhere. The hope is that Ward can go on to play as many games as possible for Forest Green this term and then, when Griffiths returns to West Brom following his loan spell, the then-22-year-old will be ready to slot back into the Gas' side. Rovers are now expected to sign another goalkeeper on the back of this move with their only other option other than Griffiths being 21-year-old Matt Hall who is still yet to make his competitive debut for the Gas after signing last summer.
