Is 80 points enough to go up? Might just scrape the play offs.... Waiting for others to have bad runs!

Just got back... From ifollow.
Here's to you, Mr Robinson no one loves you anymore - it should have been 4.
Dear oh dear.... what a shambles home performance but you get what you're given if you start an injured sh!thead, that you then take off as a precaution..... which then leaves you with no strikers! And no false number10... They had no clue in midfield. Defended ok with that Long fella, but look like a team bust and spent...
My m o m Quansah. Excellent marshalling of anything that came his way. The same for Gibson, too.
Sinclair running and involved with most moves in first half belays his age.
Collins engine and runs like a racehorse.
But for the elephants in the room, Belly back in starting line up with a more familiar and orthodox defence set up saw us constrain Ox to half chances in second half and pull off 2 nice straight at him saves.
Dropping Evans, Gibbons, McCormick and Connolly was imo completely correct and well timed Proboscidea... Fair play, Evans assist from the corner (is that the first goal this season from a corner move?) was in for a hugely brave and patient Hoole, take a bow son.... Brown gave you a torrid time but you stood up to it and found the net to answer him and his team back! ....if you watch it again, their no22 does a full 360 in challenge for the cross, ends up on his @rse, but Luca just wanted it more and got there first...!!
Gordon played a blinder too. A double clearance, solely from him including a rare header almost set up another goal....but Finley decided to slip over at opportune moment.. He looked more confident on left and linked well with Collins.
The key was obviously returning industrious players Finley and Gibson. Assured players leading in their fields.
Boos on the final whistle from home crowd....I do wonder if things were different how long it would take for that infection to have hit the Mem if we had lost today? There's a lot of work to be done, but hopefully we can use this result as a springboard to secure 3rd division football. But small steps and this game management appeared almost near perfect in approach and execution. Nice result, and slick passing starting to come back.
Onto Barnsley. .

Scenes if we win, with Belshaw back in his rightful place. Do not understand Edna’s as sub, given his improvement v Ipswich. Proves he can play well against better teams EDIT, MUST READ ENTIRE THREAD FIRST, BEFORE COMMENTING, HAD NO IDEA IT WAS EARLY START. Came here, thinking i was ready for KO 👍🏻

Much better performance all round, yes - Oxford were poor, but you can only play what is in front of you. Would be nice if we could have a settled team for a few games now.

James back in goal. Finley and Coutts to toughen us up and keep possession. Gibson to organise and make sweet pass from defence to midfield/flank. Good changes, good side out. Good formation for transition football. we are going to win today, I can feel it in my bowels. Kingly bowels. You can see why I built a great big sewer. 🤴

Oxford were so poor that we couldn’t have lost if we tried. So what happens in coming matches we still don’t know, if this a turning of slump or flash in the pan? The set up personell and roles looked right to me before kick off

The set up personell and roles looked right to me before kick off I suspect (only listened on Radio Bristol) ,that todays selection gave us some experience that helped our good younger players. Mind you,Oxfords '3 wheeled wagon' came 'phut phut phutting' along at a good time for us.A much welcomed fixture. You can only beat what's infront of you,as they say, but todays good solid victory sets us up nicely to take on Barnsley at the Mem, next Saturday.

Can’t ever remember us doing anything against the tykes ( what does tyke mean ? ) so next Saturday’s fixture although being an exciting prospect would suggest to me a much tougher proposition than today’s encounter, a share of the spoils would be a good return for me.

We haven't played them much over my lifetime. The only victory I can remember was in the final game of the season when they were promoted - I think as champions. We were soundly beaten at their place in August? We never turned up for that one though. Point would be good, 3 excellent

Tyke being Viking dog. But if anyone has heard better please share.

Certainly looks that way delsy,Michael Duff has got them playing very well it seems.Spanked Derby County today eg,I think Thomas got another for them. I hope we give the Tykes (a cheeky child or apparently a coarse old man), a good game, with our team integration/balance improving. Obviously a tough nut to crack, but i've a week to absolutely convince myself we can beat em ,which we can of course. The ball bounces in mysterious ways. Edit. Tyke can mean a Yorkshireman, maybe that's it.

Stats: Oxford 0 BRFC 3 - 55% - 45% - Shots 14-5 - On Target 2-4 - Corners 6-5 - Referee: Charles Breakspear - Attendance: 8,437 (1,437 Gasheads)
Rovers return to winning ways at the Kassam!Joey Barton made six changes to the line-up for the early kick-off at Oxford. In came Hoole, Coutts and Gordon, whilst Sam Finley returned from suspension, Lewis Gibson came back from injury and James Belshaw made a return between the sticks. The home side almost got off to a flyer, with the ball striking a post from a first-minute corner. In the 6th minute, Wildschut showed Hoole a clean pair of heels and his low cross was turned narrowly wide by Baldock. Finley let fly with Rovers' first attempt on 10 minutes, but referee Breakspear - who was in charge for last season's 7-0 promotion-winning game against Scunthorpe - had given handball against him. In the 16th minute, Baldock raced onto a long ball but didn't get enough purchase on his shot and Belshaw was able to gather. The U's striker went off injured in the 20th minute and, just two minutes later, the Gas took the lead. Collins cut inside and shot on target. Eastwood palmed away as far as Bogarde, who was brought down in the area by Brannagan. Scott Sinclair stepped up and safely dispatched his shot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/contentassets/d69d8ac624ce469a8dbef2e3459f8416/jmp_oxford_united_v_bristol_rovers_rc_054-1.jpgRovers doubled their lead in the 28th minute as Sinclair raced away to deliver a perfect low cross for Collins to fire home. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/contentassets/d69d8ac624ce469a8dbef2e3459f8416/jmp_oxford_united_v_bristol_rovers_rc_057.jpgMarquis almost made it three a minute later, but his low shot was blocked by a scrambling U's defence. The impressive Bogarde strode forward and almost released Marquis with a pass in the 36th minute. Seconds later, Bate was shown the game's first yellow card for bringing down Finley. Oxford forced a corner in first-half injury-time, but Coutts rose highest to clear and Breakspear brought the half to an end. The home side had a great chance to halve the deficit in the 48th minute, but Gibson cleared after O'Donkor shot across the goal. The U's forced a flurry of corners, but the Gas stood firm and good play from Collins almost played in Finley, but the midfielder lost his footing. Up the other end, Joseph dragged a shot wide as the game started to become stretched. Hoole won a corner in the 53rd minute but the home side cleared and Quansah was forced into a late tackle to prevent an Oxford attack and was duly booked. Brannagan's free-kick and follow-up were both blocked by a resolute Rovers wall. Quansah was back in the action in the 66th minute, being alert to deflect a dangerous-looking Oxford cross. Good play from Bogarde set Sinclair away on halfway and Brannagan was forced into a poor challenge, bringing him a booking. Joey Barton made a triple change in the 70th minute, with Evans, Coburn and Ward replacing Bogarde, Coutts and Marquis. Hoole's header from an Evans corner made it three-nil in the 76th minute to send the travelling 1,437 Gasheads into raptures. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/contentassets/d69d8ac624ce469a8dbef2e3459f8416/jmp_oxford_united_v_bristol_rovers_rc_067.jpgNext up for Rovers is a home game against Barnsley in Sky Bet League One on Saturday 4th March, kick-off 3pm.
