The Halifax ref was very poor (I'm a polite chap) and actually lost control at the end.

I think the standard of refereeing is something we will just have to get used to and take on the chin.
To do this we have to get on with things if they go against us. The past few games have shown to me that we are slowly doing that.
Be tough, but be fair. Play the conference at their own game.

We have to get used to the facts that either the officials are learning the trade and are on the way up - OR have been around a while and are just never going to get any better. It seems to me though that they get worse as the game goes on so it must be down to energy levels?

I thought the referee yesterday started off really well. I was impressed with a couple of times he tried to play advantage and then pulled it back for the free-kick, if no advantage accrued.
Then he just got worse. Ones that spring to mind ...
- Mildy pulled off a brilliant from a free-kick, but what on earth was the free-kick for? Couldn't see a foul either ways.
- Ollie Clarke did really well to get to the ball first on the edge of the box, and looked like he could set us up on the break, but got scythed down. No foul given, play allowed to continue, and it could have resulted in a goal for Halifax.
- Near the end Cunnington was subject to judo throw, as he tried to break down the wing. The ball came to Harrison anyway and a Halifax player came steaming in (think it was their captain?), turned sideways on and charged with his shoulder, into Harrison's back, sending him flying. Neither foul was given, and instead the referee gave a dap-up. EH smashed it into the Blackthorn End, to show his annoyance.
- In the same corner, by the flag, the referee seemed to invent a new rule. Cunnington had been holding up the ball to play for time, and did the same thing from the resulting corner. There was no foul committed, but the referee awarded a free-kick against AC - it was as if he had created a new offence for 'Ungentlemanly Conduct', just because he didn't agree with this standard playing within the rules.

Ref v Halifax did not look the fittest, but overall did no worse than the so called football league refs, we have suffered in the past. The one against Telford gave some strange decisions and favoured Telford, we were warned about this before season started Overall they have not been that bad, not the ones I have seen anyway. Assistant refs (linesman) don't appear to see any type of infringements whatsoever.

I don't think there is any point getting on officials backs at this level, they're decision making is likely to get worse and not necessarily in your favour.

The officiating that I've seen so far (and I've been to every game home and away) has been very poor. The guy yesterday was a buffoon - his decision-making was astoundingly bad.

During half-time, I thought that Nick Day made reference to the Premiership ref who trains with Rovers being at the game? Wondered if he might be doing a bit of assessing as he's injured?

The refs in Conference are FL qualified linesmen and not allowed to ref League games until they reach a certain level and gain experience in the Conference.

We're in the 5th tier so we get 5th tier refs, invertiably they are worse we'll have come across watching Rovers. Just think we'll have to accept their going to be poor.

The refs seem to let more go, and there was at least one occasion yesterday when we didn't play to the whistle.

I qualified as a ref some time ago, but also ran the line a lot; one ref only allowed the linesmen to give off sides and throw ins. During the game, with subs warming up behind me, a winger got tackled/brutally assaulted by a defender a yard away from me and the ref ignored it - I got a wee bit of stick.
You often see linesmen at the Mem wait for the ref to give a decision, even throw ins and clearly sighted, before raising the flag in a certain direction, you can see the ref indicating 'discreetly.'

IMO the officials on Staurday were awful.
