Fred: Fenerbahce complete deal for Manchester United midfielder..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16560/production/_130788419_fred.png Fred originally signed for Manchester United in 2018Manchester United midfielder Fred has completed a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce. The Brazil international, who joined United from Shakhtar Donetsk for £47m in 2018, called his time at Old Trafford "a true dream". "Today ends one of the most beautiful stages of my career," the 30-year-old said on social media. It is understood United will receive 10m euros (£8.62m), with an additional 5m euros (£4.31m) in potential add-ons. "I lived the dream of wearing the shirt of one of the biggest clubs in the world," added Fred. "Going through ups and downs, I leave with the conviction that I always gave my best during all training sessions and games. "It was five years of a true dream for me and my family. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity. Forever a Red!" Fred was told that he is unlikely to play a significant role in United manager Erik ten Hag's squad this season. Fenerbahce's Istanbul rivals Galatasaray and Premier League side Fulham were among other clubs to have expressed an interest in the player. Fred's contract at Old Trafford had been scheduled to expire next summer. He made 56 appearances for United last season and scored six goals as he helped Ten Hag's side finish third in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League. Overall, he played 139 times for the club in the top flight, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/03CB/production/_130717900_gettyimages-1556988512.jpg"I am very happy to come to Turkey's biggest club with such a great history. I want to be a part of this history too," Fred told Fenerbahce's website. "My first impressions are very good and positive. Everyone at the club made me feel very welcome. I was extra happy for that too. "I also want to play big by doing my best, win all the trophies and contribute to all successes. Of course, I want to make the fans happy. "Now I will play for Fenerbahce fans on this field here. I cannot wait for this. Fenerbahce fans started to support me even before I came here. I will do my best. Let no one doubt that.

Harry Maguire: Erik ten Hag says defender must prove he is top class or leave Man Utd..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1F8E/production/_130787080_united.png Manchester United paid a record £80m to make Harry Maguire the world's most expensive defender in 2019Erik ten Hag says Harry Maguire would be better off leaving Manchester United if he is not confident enough to battle for a first-team spot. The United boss is adamant he thinks Maguire can be an important part of his plans. However, after Ten Hag took the captaincy off the 30-year-old, United then accepted a £30m bid from West Ham for him. "He has the ability to be a top-class centre-back," said Ten Hag. "He is the best for England so why shouldn't he be the best for us? "But he has to prove it. When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision. But I'm happy with him." It is not yet clear whether Maguire will make the move, nor if he will be involved in United's opening Premier League game against Wolves on Monday, although Ten Hag indicated he will be. Ten Hag's team selections have suggested Maguire is behind Victor Lindelof as back up to first-choice pair Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, with Luke Shaw also playing in central defence last term. Jonny Evans is still training with United and would be an easy replacement if Maguire did decide to move on. Any deal for Maguire can generate more finance for Ten Hag to go back into the transfer market. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/10606/production/_130787076_untitled.jpg

Man Utd transfer news: Key Harry Maguire issue sees West Ham move for alternative signing in stunning development..by James Holland.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/171D7/production/_130397649_gettyimages-1474624507.jpgThe transfer of Harry Maguire from Manchester United to West Ham United is still not finalised due to a big problem, and this has resulted in David Moyes’ side eyeing up Bundesliga star Odilon Kossounou instead, as per a report. Maguire has looked set to leave Man Utd ever since manager Erik ten Hag stripped him of the captaincy and appointed Bruno Fernandes in the leadership role. The England international has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham and Aston Villa, but a switch to West Ham has appeared most likely in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Man Utd took a big step towards offloading Maguire by agreeing a deal with West Ham for him. The Irons will pay Man Utd £30m for the centre-back, should the deal reach completion. There have even been suggestions West Ham could make Maguire their new captain, in what would be an intriguing twist. It was previously thought that West Ham had agreed to pay Maguire £100,000 a week, while he will receive a £6m fee from Man Utd when departing Old Trafford. But according to an update from The Sun, the defender is not as close to signing for West Ham as fans will have been hoping. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11F5B/production/_130436537_gettyimages-1474620556.jpgWest Ham’s push to sign Maguire is ‘stalling’ as they are failing to agree on personal terms with him. It seems Maguire wants to earn more than £100k a week in East London, and potentially closer to the £190k he takes home every seven days at Man Utd. As a result of this problem, West Ham technical director Tim Steidten has rushed to find an alternative signing to Maguire. And the report claims he has landed on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kossounou. One of the main reasons for this particular pursuit is that Steidten worked at Leverkusen between 2019 and 2023. He therefore knows a lot about the club and is aware of Kossounou’s talent. Should Maguire end up rejecting West Ham, due to his wage demands, then the Irons will make a firm bid for Kossounou instead. Steidten is ready to pay Leverkusen £30m for the Ivorian, the same fee that has been agreed for Maguire’s transfer. And Steidten’s good relationship with Leverkusen officials should help the move to go through more smoothly than that of Maguire’s. Ten Hag will be frustrated if Maguire’s switch to West Ham fails to reach completion. While he has publicly labelled the 30-year-old an important player for Man Utd, it is clear that he is searching for a replacement in his squad. Man Utd are interested in Bayern star Benjamin Pavard and Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice. They have also identified Tottenham target Edmond Tapsoba as a backup option, should they miss out on Pavard and Todibo. However, if Man Utd sign one of Pavard or Todibo and fail to axe Maguire, then their wage bill will be overstretched.

Man Utd takeover: Glazer family holding club hostage - fan group..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/A5F8/production/_130788424_gettyimages-1417086116.jpgA Manchester United fan group has accused the Glazer family of holding the club "hostage" over its prolonged ownership saga. The Glazer family launched its 'strategic review' into the club 265 days ago, when they suggested the sale of United was a possible option. There has been no clarity regarding bids from Qatar's Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group. The Glazers bought United for £790m ($1.34bn) in 2005. Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe are waiting to find out if they have been successful and the organisations that have offered minority funding have not been informed either. During the period of the review - with its potential to result in a sale of the club - members of the Glazer family have attended three Wembley finals involving United. Co-chair Avie Glazer and his wife were also present at a training session and match in New Jersey during the club's summer tour of the United States. An observer with knowledge of United and a lengthy career in football finance has told BBC Sport they have never come across anything like it "in 40 years in business". The 1958 Group, which has led recent protests against the Glazer family and who outlined their demands in the BBC's 'How To Buy A Football Club' podcast last month, have called for fans to gather next to the 'Trinity' statue outside Old Trafford before Monday's Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The move has been promoted by the Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association, which had direct dialogue with the Glazer family when they engaged with fans following the European Super League collapse. A spokesperson for Manchester United Supporters Trust said: "As time goes on this feels less like a sale process and more like the Glazer family is holding Manchester United and its fans hostage. "The united message of fans is clear - sell the club. And if they do not intend to do so, at least have the courage to say that and explain what the charade of the last nine months has been about. "On the pitch, there is clear progress at United and the whole fan base is behind Erik and the team. "But off it, the discontent about the ownership and the sale process has not gone away and will only escalate now the new season has arrived."

Stuart: I'm 100% on board with zero tolerance for aggression towards officials but how will the PGMOL react to pressure from everyone when Onana wasn't punished for assault, Antony for pulling the shirt off Kilman after he's gone past him and for Mason Mount clearly going studs up into the Wolves player's ankle. But yellows for anyone who delays a throw in? Consistency? John, Sheffield: In general, I think that referees are given too much criticism. It's a tough job and they're rarely making objective decisions. But to watch that challenge on video and not award a penalty is staggeringly incompetent. From the same VAR referee as the Brighton v Spurs debacle last season too. Maxiemilliano: Good morning. I just couldn’t sleep well thinking over and over again why the penalty against Onana wasn’t given. Ridiculous decision in my opinion. Louis from Lowestoft: I don't understand why opposing managers refuse to acknowledge bad decisions. They just look ignorant, but it would only improve the game if everyone agreed on the blatantly obvious. Carl, Derby: It wasn't a clear and obvious error......it was the most blatant penalty you will see and yet the referees still managed to miss it and yet the slightest touch to an ankle is a penalty for Brentford...? Tim in Mundesley: If an outfield player had come in that late, nowhere near the ball, and clattered an opponent it would be a pen. Goalkeepers are a protected species. Paul, An Arsenal fan: Controversial, but I don’t think it was a penalty. If Onana had clattered into Dawson, who actually won the header, then I’d understand, but he didn’t. Two players missed the ball and collided, Onana had no influence on Dawson’s header. Dave, Stockport: Wolves’ penalty being denied was simply the age old tradition of balancing up the decisions. United had a blatant penalty turned down with that handball earlier in the game. Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel discussing VAR denying Wolves a late penalty on BBC Radio 5 Live: "We're this many years into VAR, it still confuses me. "It still confuses me that we can get these situations. VAR is there to correct the wrongs and when something like that happens and it's not corrected, I don't understand why we have it. "It takes up a lot of time. The fans are left in the dark, there's no communication - nothing. It takes the breath out of a game. "When we have a situation like yesterday, which is clearly the wrong decision, and VAR doesn't intervene - I just don't understand why we have that."

Man Utd 1-0 Wolves: Officials to miss weekend games after penalty error..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12624/production/_130800357_wolves3.jpg Andre Onana clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic in the final minute of added time but no penalty was givenThree Premier League officials at the centre of a decision not to award a penalty to Wolves at Manchester United have been overlooked for this weekend's matches. Wolves were denied a late penalty on Monday when United keeper Andre Onana crashed into Sasa Kalajdzic and failed to make contact with the ball. Wolves boss Gary O'Neil said elite referees manager Jon Moss told him he "could not believe" the error. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15A89/production/_126431788_tv009786170.jpgHoward WebbIt is also understood referees' chief Howard Webb, who is head of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), contacted Wolves officials after the match to apologise. Referee Simon Hooper, video assistant referee (VAR) Michael Salisbury and assistant VAR Richard West are regarded as "not selected" rather than "dropped" as the weekend appointments had not been made prior to Monday's game. However, the move is a direct result of the collective failure to award the injury-time penalty and is part of Webb's demand for enhanced accountability for mistakes. "Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given - fair play to him, he apologised," said O'Neil after the match, which United won with Raphael Varane's 76th-minute header. "I have spent a lot of time with him today to understand the new guidelines, trying not to get myself booked in the first game, which I have failed in. "But fair play to Jon for coming out and saying it was a clear and obvious error - he couldn't believe the on-field referee didn't give it and can't believe VAR did not intervene...

Mason Greenwood: TV presenter Rachel Riley says she'll stop supporting Man Utd if forward stays..

United say no decision has been made about his future, which is still the "subject of intensive internal deliberation". Forward Greenwood, 21, had denied the criminal charges against him, including attempted rape and assault. The Crown Prosecution Service dropped all the charges on 2 February. "I won't be able to support United if Greenwood remains at the club," she said on Thursday. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/15E71/production/_130831798_gettyimages-960109590.jpgWriting on social media, Countdown co-presenter Riley added: "We've all seen and heard enough. Pretending this is OK would be a huge part of the problem. "It would be devastating for my club to contribute to a culture that brushes this under the carpet. I really hope they do the right thing." An announcement from United on Greenwood was expected before Monday's Premier League opener against Wolves but was delayed. In a statement on Wednesday, United said the "fact-finding phase" of their investigation was now complete. They added a decision about Greenwood's future - which "ultimately rests" with chief executive officer Richard Arnold - was in the final stages. It is thought United's direction of travel was for Greenwood to return in some form, but the fierceness of debate around his future, among other things, has made them pause. United said they had gathered "extensive evidence and context not in the public domain" and spoke to "numerous people with direct involvement or knowledge of the case". Fans protested outside Old Trafford against Greenwood's potential return before the Wolves game and a group of female United supporters said they want the club to "demonstrate a zero tolerance approach" towards violence against women. Female Fans Against Greenwood's Return put out a lengthy statement to say Greenwood's reintegration "tells us, as women, that we don't matter". BBC Sport contacted Greenwood's lawyers for a response to the planned protest, but they declined to comment. Greenwood has been unavailable for selection since his arrest in January 2022 and has not been involved at the club's Carrington training ground. His United contract runs until June 2025. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8611/production/_128512343_gettyimages-1364025034.jpg

It's an interesting one from quite a few angles. Just because he has not been found guilty in a court of law, is he fully (and Man Utd) entitled to carry on as if nothing happened? There is enough evidence in the public domain to cast a very dark shadow over this character and his abuse (note not alleged) of his partner. There was abuse of his partner, but not enough to prosecute. We've kind of been here with Rovers (case stayed due to Barton facing an 'unfair trial'). But do Man Utd owe a duty of care to help rehabilitate this individual and the way he treats women? On balance I'm with Rachel Reilly. In as much as I would withdraw my active support for the Club if he was retained. Bloody principles eh? Man Utd are in a "damned if they do, damned if they don't situation". So damage limitation and the result of the findings to be released Monday after the Women's World Cup Final would be my guess.

Yes, it is an interesting one because of the Stigma that will surround it and the good old saying "No Smoke Without Fire"....(Mud sticks) You can go down the rehabilitation route, but in the long run getting rid would probably be the best action all round. A very good promising 21 year-old English footballer suspended by United over sexual issues alleged against him. In a July 2023 Instagram post, Greenwood indicated that he had become a father by having a child with his girlfriend.

Mason Greenwood: Gary Neville critical of Manchester United's handling of investigation..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/BE60/production/_130863784_gettyimages-1367239299.jpg Mason Greenwood's last appearance for Manchester United was against West Ham in January 2022Gary Neville says Manchester United's handling of the Mason Greenwood investigation has been "pretty horrible" and lacked strong leadership. Greenwood, 21, will leave the club by mutual agreement after a six-month internal investigation. It came after charges against the player, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February. "It was clear from day one that he wouldn't play for Manchester United again," said former defender Neville. Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Neville, 48, who made 602 appearances for United, added: "The process in getting there has been pretty horrible. When you have significant situations, and difficult situations like this, it requires strong authoritative leadership. And that comes from the very top. Manchester United don't have that." Fellow pundit and former England midfielder Karen Carney said the matter was "handled poorly" and it was a "really uneasy situation for me". England international Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 following allegations surrounding material which was published online. In a statement, Greenwood accepted he had "made mistakes" and took his "share of responsibility", but added: "I did not do the things I was accused of." United have said "based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged", adding: "All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United." An announcement of the investigation's results was expected before United's opening Premier League game of the season against Wolves on 14 August, but the decision was delayed amid fierce debate about Greenwood's potential reintegration at Old Trafford. The club said they wanted to consult with their women's team, some of whom were part of England's World Cup squad playing in Australia, before announcing a decision about Greenwood's future. In an open letter to United supporters on Monday chief executive Richard Arnold said the club had "limited powers of investigation" and "were reliant on third-party co-operation" as they "sought to collate as much evidence as possible to establish facts and context". He added: "Reintegration was one of the outcomes we considered and planned for. For context, over the course of the past six months several outcomes have been contemplated and planned for, and my view has evolved as our process progressed." Carney, 36, who chaired a major review into the women's game, added: "I think Manchester United as an institution, as football club and what is stands for, has handled this really really poorly. "I think from statements, that have been confusing and conflicting to everybody. From leaks. From involving stakeholders unnecessarily. I.e. female players, our Lionesses." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E458/production/_130065485_gettyimages-1237745135.jpg'It should have been dealt with independently'Greenwood's potential return prompted a group of female United supporters to protest outside Old Trafford before the Wolves game on 14 August, and said they wanted the club to "demonstrate a zero-tolerance approach" towards violence against women. Female Fans Against Greenwood's Return put out a lengthy statement to say the striker's reintegration would tell them "as women, that we don't matter". Greenwood's contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025, and he could now be sold or loaned to another club for the remainder of his deal. He remains on full pay but will not return to training with United. Neville also claimed United should not have been in the situation where the were presiding over a matter where they did not possess the requisite experience, and called for the introduction of an independent panel for the future. "On an issue like domestic abuse, on violence against women, there needs to be independence," he said. "It shouldn't be that Manchester United are the judge and jury on such a significant issue. Not just for themselves, but also for the game. People talk about the reputation of Manchester United but it's the Premier League here as well. "My view is that on issues of this importance, and severity, they should be dealt with independently by a panel. "It's been clear that Manchester United have not had the skill and ability to deal with this situation properly. It's been well above their grade of experience and ability." Sports lawyer Chris Farnell told BBC News: "Manchester United are damned if they did, and damned if they don't. "If they had done a quick analysis they would be told it should be more in depth. Because it's been in depth it's 'taken too long'. "I think the important thing is you have to look into the conclusions Manchester United have to come to and reasons behind it."

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sell Noam Emeran to Dutch side FC Groningen. i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/article27562092.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1596845083.jpgThe 20-year-old impressed during pre-season but is being allowed to leave the club in order to get his senior breakthrough elsewhere, given the fierce competition for places at United. Emeran joined United as a 16-year-old in 2019, leaving French side Amiens, with the club fighting off Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain to secure his signature. The French youngster caught the eye with his performances at youth level and impressed when given a chance in the early stages of pre-season this summer, scoring a memorable goal in the opening win over Leeds in Oslo. He also featured from the bench in the final pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao and netted another goal when the U21 side defeated Chester FC a day later. However, with opportunities at a premium next season and Emeran desperate to make his breakthrough at senior level, it has been decided that a permanent move will suit him best this summer. The Manchester Evening News understands Emeran was the subject of plenty of loan approaches from across Europe, but a permanent move to Groningen will give him the best opportunity to develop his game and fulfil his potential. It is also understood that United have included a sell-on clause in the deal, meaning they stand to financially benefit from any further success he has in his career. Emeran is the latest academy youngster to be sold this summer and will leave the club having never made a senior matchday squad appearance.

So he's apparently off to Italy or Turkey, the dustbins of European football. Even the Saudis won't touch him.

He has to get out of Man.Utd to make any kind of career that he has left, mud sticks and all that, but can he ever play for England again..? There is so much more that we do not know at this stage, but what is for sure is his MU career is dead and buried..

Mason Mount: Injured Manchester United midfielder set to miss next two games..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/66E1/production/_130873362_gettyimages-1610620793.jpg Mason Mount has been capped 36 times by England and scored five goalsManchester United midfielder Mason Mount is set to miss the club's next two Premier league matches with injury. The Red Devils said Mount is expected to be out until after the international break because of a "small complaint" sustained in last weekend's 2-0 defeat by Tottenham. Mount joined United from Chelsea in June in a deal worth an initial £55m. Erik ten Hag's side will host Nottingham Forest on Saturday before travelling to Arsenal on 3rd September. England international Mount, 24, is also a doubt for the Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on 9th September. Mount was given a starting place for United's opening two Premier League games by Ten Hag but has struggled to make an impact. He was substituted after 68 minutes of United's 1-0 win over Wolves on the opening day and replaced by Christian Eriksen. The midfielder was also withdrawn for Facundo Pellistri with five minutes remaining of United's match at the Tottenham Stadium last Saturday.

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Fenerbahce and Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, with the 25-year-old having a release clause of £4.2m. Bayindir has undergone pre-medical checks in Greece on an existing back problem, the results of which will determine whether United take the deal any further. Manchester United and Chelsea have both entered the race to sign 16-year-old Croatian striker Dino Klapija from Kustojia.

Amrabat to United - Mark Ogden, Senior writer for ESPN on the Football Daily podcastTen Hag’s wanted Amrabat for a while, I think he’s realises that he’s really light in midfield. They haven’t quite solved that problem of getting the ball and holding it in midfield. Mason Mount isn’t a guy that will be box-to-box or commanding in midfield. Amrabat enables United to keep possession, win possession, find a pass. He ticks a lot of boxes in midfield. I think he’s what they need. Fiorentina's Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is training alone, boosting Manchester United's hopes of signing the 27-year-old. United need to move players out, especially midfielders, to bring more midfielders in. So that’s the challenge they’ve got right now. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/24/6b7131c0-70ab-44bd-a5bb-61d1e8847058.jpg

Luke Shaw: Manchester United defender set for spell on sidelines with muscle injury..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2BFB/production/_130895211_lukeshaw.jpg Shaw featured in 31 league games last seasonManchester United defender Luke Shaw is set for an extended period on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury. United are still assessing the full extent of the injury but acknowledge the 28-year-old left-back will be out for a number of weeks. He will miss England's games against Ukraine and Scotland next month. Manager Erik ten Hag already has injury problems at left-back with Tyrell Malacia also out. Meanwhile, Brandon Williams has been loaned to Championship side Ipswich Town. Diogo Dalot has played on the left in the past but it is a problem Ten Hag can do without as he looks to navigate his way through United's unconvincing start to the season. United beat Wolves 1-0 before losing 2-0 to Tottenham. Manchester United are also currently without midfielder Mason Mount and forward Rasmus Hojlund through injury. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/25/92a99d9d-19ff-4441-ac2d-1c40737bdce1.jpg
