Fantastic result against a strong league 1 side. Finding our feet with more signings to come. Looking forward to hearing Robinson whine about something later “Looking forward to hearing Robinson whine about something later” Yeah - it would have been a different story if his man was correctly sent off for the slap in the face, so he can whine about referring. we defended very well when under spell of pressure in first half, and pressed amazingly in the heat of the second half

A short summary:
Every single player was outstanding today. Thankfully Billy never got the service or space he needs and the rest of that lot were subdued and outplayed.
Say it every game, but the unity of spirit and togetherness is bloody wonderful.

Were still going strong at the end, when Oxford looked to be running out of energy and ideas.

Wigan have just equalised against City an all.🙂

We made 5 substitutions today, they worked well.
The bench looked strong.
I can see Joe earning us a few points this season from this new 5 subs rule.

Super hot football! Rovers were excellent and thoroughly deserved the 1 0 and 3 points. Shape well maintained, great discipline. Oxford were no pushover, hit the bar, headed over the bar from another good chance, that one from a Mathew Taylor cross. MT got plenty of stick, climaxing in a huge chant of Sheeeeed as he was substituted in the 2nd half. Glen Whelan played about 60 minutes, never put a foot wrong. Harvey Saunders deservedly won the MOTM.He is very quick and gave his all.I'm not sure he recieved much good ball but he never stopped running and the Ox defence were kept on their toes.A good player. Our goal was a good move, possibly Quarters practiced.Great to see Marquis get his first. He was very good today.Moore the big Ox CH knew he was in a game and he looked to have struck Marquis in the face in a first half incident. Apparently the ref did"nt see this. Our new LB Gordon looks spot on. Jordan Rossitter showed what a decent player he is today.Very tidy passer ,reads the game and has his shirt tucked in his shorts.Always a good sign. Rovers looked every bit a decent professional fc today against a good Ox team. Spot-on. Mostly what I saw on iFollow, Steve. I enjoyed the teamwork. Looks as though the Manager might have got the hang of this thankless job. Hope so. Thought Harry Anderson should have got MOM. He's a 'Roy-of-the-Rovers' in my book. Anyway mate, it's a long way to go and here's to some more shrewd signings. Watching the so-called old man of the party, Glen Whelan stride through an hour; I might dubbin-up my old boots . . . there are over seventies five aside teams; aren't there? 😎 Onward and upward Gas

#UpTheROVERSIt's great watching it Dave. Excellent football. Harry Anderson's run back, to cut out an Ox pass that most likely would of seen them equalise, was fantastic and it epitomises the spirit of this squad. There's that walking football malarkey mate, but that's too slow for a runner like yourself.👍

Whelan's performance was simply outstanding. He kept the ball moving with a wonderful range of short and long passing.
One thing people may not have noticed. Half-time whistle blew and he sprinted down the tunnel. So glad that he is coaching and playing. Great individual!!

We were the better team and the way we managed the game in the second half was brilliant. Once they missed the header everyone played well and I was never worried that we’d give it away. Special mention to Harry A and Marquis. Harry never gave up and was fantastic and John M obviously got up the noses of the Oxford players and he’s the striker we’ve been missing. Well done JB and well done the team. JBs subs today were very good and they made us stronger at the right time. UTG!

Half-time whistle blew and he sprinted down the tunnel. So glad that he is coaching and playing. Great individual!! Our best performances in the second half of last season were when we had at least two of Coutts Whelan and Finley in the middle. Nothing gets past them they all work so bloody hard and rarely give anything away. Collectively up there with yhe best midfield we have ever had imho. Glad Whelan returned for another year but do wonder how much longer he can continue for. Hoping Rossiter will be as good. Agree with the praise for Harry Anderson - our unsung hero last year and consistently good in both attacking and defensive positions

Just got back...
Wow, what a day...! No problems getting in, and all the basics appeared to work today with staff actually competent and services available.
Nice to see some faces again.
On pitch we appeared to match up Oxford formation and out do them in the end, but I thought the first 30 mins we struggled to keep up with them until the goal. And the long range shot.
Really like the engine and energy this team create. We'll need more players to sustain this in depth.
Anderson running on right, assisted with my m o m Saunders whom just never gave up and was the catalyst in creating the goal as he was fouled for set piece was great to watch.
To add, really like Flash on left with his help of mainly Aaron, whose running and support made the latter appear everywhere.
Hoole had steadfast match in CD, and again (he seems to get one of these per match, at least), went on a mazy dangerous run which almost culminated in own goal!? But, as much as I like him, and his partner Billy Connolly, they conspired to allow the best opportunity for opposition to head over unmarked second half ...
Sam Finley is becoming as important as Evans. His wizardry ball to bisect their defence is sumptuous to watch (ably protected by Whelan)....he done this v Burton. AE didn't have the best creative game, but if you watch the highlights, Ox first opportunity hit the bar with looping header and rebound was about to be followed in by fella until a timely, acrobatic clearance by.....AE. If anyone else just doesn't understand his inclusion, they will now.
Oxford are a good team. Unfortunately, they look like a one trick pony outfit. I think I remember their plight as in we have to have wingers, we have to have big strikers, we have to have 2 massive beasts in central defence....but in actual fact, the game (and to a certain extent, ours) has moved on and we can adapt to a more sophisticated construction. Sometimes. I really liked their 18, and up until booking their 5 had Marquis in his pocket. Oxford have been there or there abouts for a few seasons and we drew a valid win, which is mightily encouraging.....but I will say I find it a bit worrying that apart from Loft dainty finish easily for their Keeps to gather, we hardly threatened them in the box.
Ox might on another day walked away with a point. Well, how many times could we have said the same thing?
They tried to persevere with the 4-2-3-1 and it backfired. Mainly because of our running endeavours and tenacity. Also, I'm sure I saw one of their players stamp on ours....on the hamstrings....and their timewasting in first half with keeper playing ball out from other side it went out of was hastily met with a boot out second half!
Well done JAB for his management of the game. He made the right sub call at the right time and brought on right personnel for right bods.
Lastly, lovely to see BB again and I gave him a clap when he was subbed, he had a decent shot from distance but not much else. As opposed to the 🐍 still a cnut .... Never forget, GasHeads. Never forget.

Oxford fans seem very bitter about yesterdays game. I wouldn’t want to be Gary Glitter’s cell mate today

Some seem to a have a vocabulary of 4 words and 3 of those are mucky ones! Blimey, as you say, talk about unhinged. They seem a bit off this planet and it’s not just the odd one or two, which we all have, but loads of them. UTG!

Some observations from yesterday.
Belshaw's passing is sublime.
You can instantly see that Gordon is an upgrade on anyone who has played left-back previously.
Matty Taylor (despite all the derision) looked poor yesterday. He offered no threat / runs whatsoever. Hooked justifiably.

Not a massive threat maybe, but he did make one excellent cross that his team mate really could scored from.Instead of heading over.2nd half.

Whatever, he was poor in the box. I just think that somehow he finds it difficult to play at the Mem, the fans certainly seem to get to him. Anyway, great win! UTG!
