Does anybody actually object to women watching or playing football? I don't think I've ever met anybody who thinks they shouldn't be allowed to? So Tom, in this respect at least you can rest assured...your daughters already live in a world of (relative) equality. Yes, I have encountered some mildly chavinistic comments about women doing either, but never with the deliberate intention of causing harm or offence. People don't object to the premise that football should be free of sexism. They object to a particular political agenda being shoved down their throat and told that it is right and they have no right to think differently without being denigrated, ostracised and threatened with legal recourse. In particular, they object to relatively privileged individuals (and most feminists are middle-class professionals) jumping on every statement or action to claim their sanctified 'victim' status. Its interesting that the club didn't actually make a statement on Barton's 'Holocaust' debacle and unfortunately made a statement on a 'victimless crime', but jumps on this at the very first opportunity. Pretty contemptible stuff. Some points: Not sure a man saying “he’s encountered chauvinistic comments about women.....but never with the deliberate intention of causing harm or offence” is a reliable measure. How do you know they weren’t causing harm? You aren’t a woman facing it so it’s pointless to assume that you could possibly judge how woman feel. It’s not for you or I to judge comments aimed at women or presume that it’s the banter you imply it is. Secondly, people “....object to a political agenda being shoved down their throat.” By that I presume you really mean something You disagree with! What is possibly wrong with 50% of the population receiving more publicity than before about a public leisure activity? It’s absolutely right that a publicly supported broadcasting service, the BBC, represent all the population and that means in football and on panels. You call it a “political agenda” others may call it putting a long-term inequality right. I presume that you wouldn’t have supported women seeking the vote in the 1920s. You make huge assumptions about objecting to “privileged individuals”, “middle class professionals” and “victims”. It sounds like a bit of a rant! I’m very glad that the Gasgirls have been a leader in the #hergametoo movement and have been able to get so many articulate people of both genders to support their programme, whichever class (what’s that all about?) Well done to them. 👍

Not strong enough. A public flogging on the halfway line at half time followed by a cold, salt, water shower. That will concentrate minds. From what I’ve just learned this punishment is much too lenient. The perpetrators should be immediately exiled to Siberia ( or South Gloucestershire) Oi, not having that I'm originally from Kingswood and I can say with confidence that comparing it to Siberia is an awful insult to that snow-bound paradise.

Unfortunately we have several hangers on, close to TG and others, they have fake twitter accounts and have been slagging Caz off. I know one of the twats but what can i do when, by showing proof, it shows i can track by using dark web code Loads of people can trace and track Jools. A mate of mine trains law enforcement all over the world on how to trace and convict the grimmest of criminals using digital evidence. CSI tech is his company, it may interest you. However If you already have those skills and you aren’t using them in calling out these shameful pricks then shame on you as well. Especially if he was the one saying that he hoped someone got raped the other week.

(and most feminists are middle-class professionals) I missed that little nugget first time around But its exactly what the women at Ford in Dagenham were saying when they struck for equal pay way back when, iirc And those 300,000 Suffragettes who rocked up in Hyde Park said it of themselves too And that Jo Brand off the telly now So that's definitely most of them

Kindly spell out where I have said that women should be treated as lesser humans. I think you'll find I actually said the opposite. I object to the 'her game too' initiative on the grounds that its redundant and irrelevant. I also object to the club grasping at it after its recent PR gaffes.
People are also fully entitled to object to the BLM movement or taking the knee, just as previous generations of black people presumably weren't required to agree with everything Malcolm X or Martin Luther King said. People are also entitled object to the way that specific groups or interests conduct themselves. Just as people are allowed to object to the Colston statute being thrown into the harbour without being called a racist. In a free society people can express their opinion on both sides of any agenda but that doesn't mean that those opinions help to build a fairer, more caring society. No one on here is saying you can't have a opinion but then so can they have their opinion. But don't expect your opinion not to be challenged! No one is threatening to rape you or beat you up or tell you to stay at home like a good little boy because you voice an opinion. The #hergametoo girls have had those kind of crass threats and stupid taunts just for saying football is about them too. And people like yourself want to shut down the conversation. It certainly sounds from what you have written that if you had your way you would shut down #hergametoo. Telling women and those who support them to shut up about abuse and misogyny because you haven't heard any doesn't mean its gone away or doesn't exist. Neither is it free speech [for them] by being shut down by you and those who think similarly. They have the same right as you to stand up for themselves. If that offends you, then you don't quite get the idea of the free speech that you demand for yourself.

I imagine and as someone posted the stickers are the work of some young men.
I don't really understand the continued support that states ' football is for everyone, including women'.I mean it's known and supported by 99% of people. Is'nt it?
Is it somehow connected to the woke thing? Another bullish and unnecessary politically correct thing, backed by Labour and the BBC?
For years now the BBC have supported the women's game.Fair enough, but it was completely over the top.Eg,they would give a glowing report of a top league game. You could be forgiven in thinking it was on par with eg the Manchester derby. The reality was somewhat different.Attendance not mentioned, but with abit of digging you might discover it was 225.The 8th tier of the mens game were getting bigger attendances.
International games are very successful, huge attendances at Wembley for England Ladies.👍
It looks like some women, backed by Labour and the BBC are insisting Ladies get the 'top jobs',as it were.As they insist in all walks of life and jobs.Well fair play for ambition but in the sporting entertainment industry, exaggerating, shouting and hollering is not enough. It is'nt enough in all jobs.
Just to confirm I think it fantastic women play football. In the 'boys' team I played for,we had two girls that played too, maybe up to they were 14.

I think maybe people are a little conflated between "her game too" (which I would back 100%), and the media (well BBC/Sky) annoying obsession with promoting women's football despite lack of quality and viewing figures.

My view is that I would like to see more girls at football, as they are not represented enough at football and the Mem specifically.
To do this, there needs to be healthy attitudes, but also better facilities.
I would actually like to see a separate girls / females supporters group, as it would encourage more of them to come in what is sometimes perceived as a male bastion.
No political agenda. Just means to an end - increasing the support base.

Bas, the BBC are a public broadcasting service, a national company if you like, funded by us the public. I would expect at the very least that they represent the views and wishes of the roughly 50% of the nations population ie. women. To think they should do otherwise is just bonkers. And that includes football or any sport. Attendances don’t come into it, the BBC have a charter they have to keep to and I’d expect somewhere in it there’s something about equality. At least I hope there is. The other channels, commercial channels, can look at attendances and gauge interest against a commercial measure but the BBC can’t and shouldn't And when people say ”it looks like”.... about facts they’re not sure about don’t know it looks more like you’re complaining about something you don’t agree with. Fair enough, we all have opinions but expect them to be challenged. UTG!

I mean there's a reason the Ladies game has low attendance figures and that's because not many want to pay and watch it. Contrived.Forced on people. That's not equality. Play the game. Love the game. Grow organically. Bas There is a reason that women's football has struggled and nothing to do with talent or lack of it. Or 'woke' agendas as you keep banging on about [an obsession you seem to have with anything you disagree with] Perhaps if you studied the history of football you would find that in 1921 the old fart male dominated Football Association voted to ban women playing at league affiliated grounds. They had been getting excellent gates (up to 53,000 in some cases) and the football was of a high standard. It virtually killed the women's game overnight. That rule wasn't rescinded until the 1970s but the prejudice against the female game continued and they virtually had to start from scratch. Similarly women haven't been encouraged to go to grounds in large numbers especially in the 1970s era of violence which we all saw. Having said that I was introduced to the Gas by my girl cousin. Your ingrained dislike of the promotion of the female game comes across more as fear. I must admit I struggle at times with female commentators especially when one ex female player was talking about the atmosphere of the FA Cup Final for players. But I am happy to put up with a bit of bias when they have had to face decades of opposition and have only recently seen the game promoted to any great extent. I would also point out that some of the comments on this thread alone reflect the continued opposition they face to grow their sport and to be fans of the game. I am very proud of the women who donned the quarters in the original team and played to a high standard before moving away. I am also very proud of the Gas Girls as players who give their all for the shirt today and as Gas supporters who have to tolerate male abuse and misogyny. All power to them. The game is for all, not just for men living in some glorious male dominated past. My daughter is a Gashead and I hope she never has to put up with kind of abuse Caz and her female friends have had to tolerate especially when it comes from Gasheads - the family team!! #hergametoo

Not sure why you persist in calling the representation of an activity representing half the nations population as being “politically motivated.” It would be shameful if the BBC didn’t do this imo. Woman’s cricket gets just as much coverage and rightly so, it is a very good product to watch. I agree with you over your last sentiment that the game should grow organically. But I would suggest that that is happening and has happened over the last 10 years and that the BBC or whatever channel is showing it has reacted to that growth and is broadcasting far more programmes because there is a greater demand as the women’s game grows. In other words the growth of the game and the increased coverage on the BBC is organic, it is a response to the growing interest and not “politically motivated.” If Sky are showing more women’s football you can be sure that it will be as a response to people wanting to see it. They are the epitome of commercial broadcasting and if they show it it will be in response to demand. (Perhaps not your demand but certainly that of many others!) UTG!

I dislike the ott promotion of the Ladies game.It has been very ott. The BBC are a biased woke right on organisation. That's clear to me. As a boy,I played in a team that had a couple of girls in it.Up until they were about 14. I support women playing football, as do 99% of people. The Ladies game is accepted as part 'of UK sporting furniture' and has been for sometime. What you are doing is virtue signalling when there is no need to do so. Why?

Banning football in 1921 for women was a disgrace and it took 50 years to come back with the likes of Gillian Coulthard, Hope Powell, Sheila Parker and Carol Thomas leading the way. I support any way of getting the women's game on tv so more can see the progress now being made, everything takes time, the WSL is a good watch and will grow bigger in time.

UTG! Wareham,i think the BBC represent right on,woke Labour far more than other point of views. 90% Guardian readers at the BBC I bet. I don't think the "charter" is respected. I think their support of Ladies football ott and politically motivated. Other poorly attended sports don't get anything like the same coverage as Ladies football. I mean there's a reason the Ladies game has low attendance figures and that's because not many want to pay and watch it. Contrived.Forced on people. That's not equality. Play the game. Love the game. Grow organically. Man, the tortes have done a brilliant job when football fans even blame labour for women not going to football, or vey already
