I think it boils down to the old, "you owe the bank 100 quid, you're in trouble. You owe the bank 5 million quid, and the bank is in trouble".

The premiersh*t needs as much cash as possible to keep the gravy train trundling along. Financial 'fair play' rules? Nah. A country with an appalling record on human rights? Saudi investors with bags full of cash? Get the f*ck in, welcome to the premier league. FIFA lead the way, UEFA and the PL follow. Corruption and a total lack of moral backbone has probably always been there. The more money at stake, the more corruption exists. But the award of the World Cup to Russia, then Qatar was kind of blatantly waving a wads of cash in mug punters faces. "We are corrupt. You KNOW we are corrupt. We KNOW that you KNOW we are corrupt. We don't care!" I digress.
