Kate and William have cancelled their first date of a week long tour ,at a village in Belize ,because the villagers don't want them there.

Funny one that. Some locals complaining about 'colonialism', which is a bit odd because the presence of British troops in Belize for many years has stopped them being attacked by Guatemala.

We provide protection against possible invaders, and at the same time we get a great training base. ........or is it as always you have zero knowledge of the area and the ongoing political postering of other countries? PS - I've served in Belize.

Every thread, regardless of content MUST reference either Brexit being a catastrophe, or British colonialism being responsible for all the ills of the world.

So, do we think the UK should stand aside and let Guatemala invade?I Supplying weapons and training to Ukraine before Russia invaded, was that 'colonialism'?

Let me try and reword it for you. From the outset, why on earth is the UK in Belize? A very simple question.

No? Ok, try this.
"In 1763 Spain in the Treaty of Paris allowed the British settlers to engage in the logwood industry. The British introduced slavery to Belize and imported thousands of slaves from Africa to cut logwood (used at that time to extract a dye) and later mahogany. The inter-marriage between Europeans and their African slaves led to modern day Creoles in Belize."
Well, I never. Who would have thought it.

Not being evasive, but I live in the current world. 1763 really doesn't have any bearing does it.
I ask again, do you think the British should pull out of Belize and allow Guatemala to invade?

When you went there, did you think you were defending the rights of people to make a free choice? The Guatemalan issue is a direct result of historical factors which you say you pay no heed to.

The villagers,or at least some of the villagers, that protested against Kate & Will visiting may not represent the majority of Belizians.
I get the impression relations between GB and Belize is pretty good.

Apparently....
Plenty of Belizians took the opportunity to get British passports when their country became independent.
There's celebration yearly of a British victory over Spain.Battle of St George Caye.
Maybe Nobby knows of this?
Anyway,we seem to get along okay.
Edit. It's being reported that now Kate & Wills have been happily dancing with locals at a welcoming Belize village.Doing the Royal thing.
