A valuable three points earned by this never-say-die Bristol Rovers team takes us to another season high position of 12th. In the top half of the table for the first time this season.
A very average performance against an average looking Walsall side, this game is easily forgotten but we got the result and that is all that counts.
A standout performance from Luke Thomas, who gave everything and showed some excellent moments of skill. Both Luke Thomas and Anthony Evans were the creative force this afternoon. The team as a whole dug in and got the result at the end. Very worrying to see James Belshaw limping at the end. I really hope he is ok because he is a critical player for us.
Aaron Collins is now our clear top scorer, with seven goals. He is becoming the player that we all hoped he would be when we signed him at the start of the season, and is developing a habit of scoring critical goals.
I was surprised to see Luca Hoole sent off. I did not realise he was already on a yellow card, and the challenge was worthy of a yellow card so I guess the referee had no choice but to send him off. I felt there should have been a lot more yellow cards in this game, as it was quite niggly at times. I was relieved to see the ref book the Walsall player for diving in the box. I will need to see that one again as I felt it could easily have been given as a penalty, which would have ruined our afternoon.
I felt we lacked composure on the ball today, and were not really much of an attacking threat. I was hoping for more following the performance against Scunthorpe on Tuesday evening. Still, I have no complaints at all. We got the job done whilst not playing well. That is a good sign for the remainder of the season.
Fantastic result which takes us within 6 points of the playoffs. Onwards and upwards.

Just watched the highlights - our chances largely came from pressing high with high energy and forcing Walsall into mistakes. We were promised a high press and the fittest squad in the league which seemed laughable when we had Pitman on his own up front. It actually looks the real deal now. Red looks harsh but at this level any foul given away runs the risk of a booking, especially with card happy egotistical referees.

We won today, despite a dismal referee, some dreadful decisions and a lacklustre performance from our usual stars.
Carry on with the unity that squad have and we're going up.
3 justified points and hey, apologies again to those who must be hating this, but UTFG

Decent attendance at the Mem today. 8000? Walsall competitive (I'll be nice). We maybe about to be grateful we have two decent GKs,Belly ended the game injured, could'nt take a goal kick. Luke Thomas.Gave everything and played very well.Great stuff from player and manager because now we have a second tier standard player! Competitive?? I thought they were abysmal. At no time did they look like they had one more player on the pitch than us. Even against our usually accomodating defence, they never looked like scoring. Going into the final stages of the game, I was confident that if we could fashion and take one chance, we`d have the three points. Was very very happy, when we did just that. Hope Belshaw not too badly injured. Been our player of the season so far, i m o. Time to make a start on a few cold ones from the fridge, methinks.

Amen to that, each to their own for decision making, let's just enjoy the football and the decent results. I think you're missing the point BG. Current circumstances have taken the joy out of it for many I think 8,003 there today. Cracking atmosphere. Don`t think the circumstances took the joy out of it, for any of them. I don`t like Barton, but f f s, anyone would think we`d appointed Wayne Couzens. Go along and support your club. It`ll be here, long after the current manager has gone. UTG!!

No it's not, unless you are prepared to sacrifice your decency by attending and funding his wages. I'm a very decent person - supporting Bristol Rovers does not sully that in any way. Time for some people to grow up, I think. I'll wager that you would have a very different attitude if it were a female relation or friend of yours that he stands accused of attacking. Massive double standards. Shameful in fact.

The last bit, yes. Long before, and long after, and the present is a blot

Enjoy your drink Alf. Me too. We are getting very difficult to beat. Great ain't it? Absolutely. I thought the second half was a decent spectacle. Even if we hadn`t scored right at the death, the way we rolled up our sleeves and battled, augers well. Enjoy your drink too.

Our goal.
Was it Anderson that won the header that led to Collins nodding it in?
Very brave.
One of those moments that you know you'll probably get to the ball first and then get belted,in this case by their GK.
Also,Jon Anderton did'nt let anyone down again today.

Current circumstances have taken the joy out of it for many I think I've not missed the point, and I understand that there isn't joy at the moment for a few people. However, I thought that Jeff was suggesting that it would be nice to enjoy discussing a good, hard fought for, result, without the matchday thread being derailed by anti-Barton mutterings, and that was where my response was aimed.

Where you said 'let's just enjoy the football' I took it to mean everyone, not just those who feel they can/should etc

I'm amazed that you aren't into religion, as you seem to thrive on passing judgement on people. You'd be a shoe-in for the job at the pearly gates. All rather ironic from the person who's forum name pays tribute to a musician who was known for cavorting with under age girls (to put a polite turn of phrase to it). You have no right to call me shameful.
