Rafael Benitez: Everton sack manager after less than seven months in charge.
Rafael Benitez has been sacked as Everton manager after less than seven months in charge.
The Toffees appointed the former Liverpool manager, 61, as Carlo Ancelotti's successor in June.
Everton, who lost 2-1 to Norwich City on Saturday, have won only one of their last 13 Premier League games and sit 15th in the table, six points above the relegation places.
The club say an update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course.
Everton held an emergency board meeting on Saturday to discuss Benitez's future following the defeat at Carrow Road, which was a ninth loss in the club's past 12 league games.
Everton's travelling contingent demanded Benitez "get out of our club", while another supporter invaded the pitch in an attempt to confront the Spaniard.
Benitez, whose previous job in the Premier League was at Newcastle United, leaves Everton with a win percentage of 31.8% - his lowest record in charge of an English club.
Rafael Benitez as manager of English clubs
Liverpool - P 350, W 194, D 77, L 79 = 55.4 Win %
Chelsea - P 48, W 28, D 10, L 10 = 58.3 Win %
Newcastle - P 146, W 62, D 31, L 53 = 42.5 Win %
Everton - P 22, W 7, D 5, L 10 = 31.8 Win %
His overall career stats managing 14 teams are: P 1170, W 572, D 280, L 318 = 48.9 Win %

New Everton manager Frank Lampard says he will win over doubters with his "work ethic" - and believes he can unite the club, its players and supporters.
The 43-year-old was appointed on Monday and inherited a fanbase that was frustrated with the choice of the club's former boss Rafael Benitez.
Lampard's arrival has prompted questions over his level of experience.
But the former Chelsea boss said: "People will see I have a work ethic."
Lampard, who had 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge after just over a year with Derby, added: "Fans will see how I embrace this job with everything I do in the workplace. If they see that and they see the reaction on the pitch, I hope that support will continue."
Lampard named his former Chelsea and England team-mate Ashley Cole among his backroom staff on Thursday.
At his first news conference since taking charge, he said he had become aware of needing to instil "confidence" and an "element of calm" in his new team, who are 16th in the Premier League.
A run of one win in 13 league games saw fans stage protests against the Everton board before Benitez was sacked.
Lampard said he was more than prepared to fight near the bottom of the table.
"I can assure fans I will give it absolutely everything," he added.

I see Lampard as possiblity one of the next England managers.
He did well at Derby, and at did a solid job at Chelsea, and if it wasn't for the latters owner being trigger happy then he would never had been sacked last season.I see him as the perfect fit for Everton right now and them trying to become a top 4 club.

My belief is that he should have stayed at Derby for at least another year to really have gotten the time to take in the " lows" that happen during a season, but the media and fanatical claims of his " then " ability clouded his judgment IMO( ) the lure of Chelsea was too much, and the inexperience priced his downfall, even there again it was media that forced his downfall..and impatient owners
