Chris Jelf has spoken. Firstly I would like to start off by thanking everyone for the tremendous support against Grimsby, where the attendance of over 7,000 exceeded all our expectations. Not only was it the highest attendance in the Conference, it was higher than all games in League Two, and five matches in League One. The fact that you still turned up in those numbers, despite a difficult summer, is truly inspirational. We know things have not started the way we would have liked, but we would love to get another fantastic crowd at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday, and as an incentive, we are offering Kids go Free for the second game in a row. As fans, we all have a massive role to play, especially when confidence amongst the players appears to be low. We understand that you are all hugely frustrated, and as a Board of Directors we must take responsibility for the current situation. It is very important therefore that any frustrations are aimed at the Board, and not at the players. I know that you will continue to give the players and manager 100% positive vocal support at the Memorial Stadium for Saturday’s game. We all know that goals win games, and we have made several attempts in the last ten days to strengthen our squad and bring a new striker to the club. I can assure you that the board will continue to support Darrell in his search for a new target man and we hope to see a new addition to the squad very soon. Thank you again for fantastic support you have shown both home and away in our opening few games. We hope we can start to repay some of your faith with a win on Saturday. If just one kid that comes along thanks to this initiative then becomes a lifelong Gashead like me (thanks Dad!!!) then I believe this to be an excellent promotional push from BRFC 1883's directors and should be applauded and repeated often. UTG

I must be the only one who found it quite refreshing. When have we ever heard the board say blame us and not the players, i think Mr Jelf could go from the forgotten one to the main man quite soon. Would be very interested to know why he is the one who has posted this open message to fans.

But why do they bother when you get people like SuperSteve73. I don't know why they bother with some of the waste of space we have as supporters which was very evident on saturday at Altringham. It doesn't matter what they do there are some people who will NEVER get off their back and yet would call themselves a supporter of our football club. In all honesty we would probably be better off with a low crowd on saturday because it will propbably be a lot of the moaners who don't go and it is a well known fact that a large percentage of the good performances over the years have been when the crowd was low. I wonder why this is?

I called into 20man's show on Saturday citing one of the core issues is that no one is taking responsibility for our demise. BT Sport's pundits also said the same during the pre-game show after they interviewed Bradshaw who refused to take any form of responsibility. It's months too late, but at least Jelf is trying to distance the players, many of which have only played 3 games in the shirt, from the people who are truly responsible for the short fuse that supporters now have.

Now GD has gone, looks like Chris Jelf has become the target for some people already.
The club should be applauded for initiatives like this, I am sure my son will be going with some of his mates who don't normally go like v Grimsby.

Kids go free is brilliant. To use it as a mask and a pathetic attempt to deflect is terrible. Its the sort of thing my two year old does when she has been naughty. She will try and distract me by smiling and saying I love you Daddy.
Its been all words, guffaw and complete codswallop since the tears of Clarke and Higgs' lie of a summer review and the club moving on. Forgive me if I sound cynical, but absolutely NOTHING that has come out of any board members mouth has been followed up or substantiated since relegation. All hot air and words.

Anything that gets the kids along needs to be applauded. We need the fans behind the club now. City82 got 11,000 at the weekend and have started well (spit!), we don't need the kids of Bristol ending up there. That would require calling the NSPCC!!
