UK BHM has just finished and I'm afraid it's had plenty of exaggerations, half truths and untruths.
I heard a theory it's all part of a plan to exaggerate black peoples hardships at a certain time,to lend support to reparation payments.I don't know if that's right.
Thing is,whilst possibly exaggerating a piece of 'black history',or actually lieing about it,the struggle of whites at the same time, possibly the same place is ignored.
I don't see how this nonsense can benefit anybody.
Rewriting history with lies is surely dangerous.
Examples of new history.
Michael Holding has recently written a book,"Why We Kneel and How We Rise".It's apparently very poor indeed when concerning facts.
The Bristol University recently erected a statue of a black woman,Henrietta Lacks, but I'm not sure she really did anything.

I don't know about Black History within the context of what you have "written", but certainly you expose very well the fault lines in "white" education, to use your pronounced demarcation lines. Quite shocking really.

I don't think the woman in questions life warranted a statue. You may disagree and change my mind.

A Henrietta Lacks.
From what I remember from reading an article z fortnight or so ago.
Basically the woman had something in her body, that was discovered after she died and it became a great help to medical science. The good woman knew absolutelynothing about any of this.
Now,she played a part,I would say an important cameo,,but somehow I think it the doctors and medical scientists that discovered and nurtured this treatment that deserve the gold star or even a statue.
An exaggeration? Bristol Uni determined to erect a 'black statue' up quickly and over compensating?

To be honest I do not believe you would recognise "accurate" history if it smacked you in the face. By your own words, you have already decided what you THINK is accurate, without any attempt to undertake any research on as to what actually is "accurate" To be frank this just smacks of bigotry.

I at least read about the woman.Perhaps more than you have. You're determined to stop even conversation. Pathetic.A bully that suffers from low expectations and no fan of free speech. A ridiculous woker, full of accusation to try and shut down conversations, when it suits his ideas. The days of that nonsense are fast coming to an end.

If you want to 'smack some truth into my face' then that can be arranged. Not bullying, nor any intention of slapping anyone. Absolute fan of free speech, not denying your right to say what you want. Was aware of the lady in be question, and of the importance of the scientific discoveries made with the benefit of access to her biology after her early death. Also know this work was done without any permission granted by any surviving family member. I have no real opinion on whether this warrants a statue or anything else, but I do believe the white Vs black skin argument you are making is forged in bigotry.

Hints of racism, and now the accusation of bigotry.............and so it starts....... It's not going to end well is it I think Bas may be starting to realise why I was exasperated when this character surfaced again. Start with an insult, then accuse your debating partner of being what you are yourself. In this instance, Bas wants to discuss and learn, Oldie wants to insult and dictate. That makes one of them a bigot, decide for yourself which one it is.

People on the other are bigots. Race is too emotive a subject, for it to be discussed rationally on here. Probably anywhere.

Bas did, for once, start with plenty of caveats to what he was saying. Anyway, why can't someone be a woke bigot?

You really don't have to be woke, or a bigot. There's plenty of room in the middle, where the vast majority of the population remains. Does this lady in question 'deserve' a statue. That would be an interesting start to a debate. A polite one, where people respect each other.

I guess my reaction was in response to Basel's chosen title to this thread and then subsequent referencing white people as not being treated equally. To be honest, does it matter if the University of Bristol choose to put this statue on their grounds? I honestly cannot understand why anyone would get upset by this. Let alone claiming it's somehow re-writing history.

Let alone claiming it's somehow re-writing history. All Bas did was asked if the Lady in question actually did anything. He invited you to put forward an argument in defence of that statue. Here's the thing, and what, I'm sorry to say, in the politest possible way, exposes you as someone with a desperate desire to prove to the world how Woke and 'right on' you are, and how there's racism and bigotry everywhere. Any normal person would find contemporary statues or tributes featuring people with white skin and point Bas towards those. This Woman's legacy is hugely important, regardless of her ethnicity, but you just can't help yourself, in the blink of an eye you are talking about racism and bigoty, again. It's a large part of the reason that I didn't miss you one bit whilst you were away. Try to act like a grown up, drop your childish nonsense, and maybe we can have some proper discussions. But sadly, I don't think you are capable

The reference to the Bristol Uni installation was just a sentence at the end of the opening gambit. It was this I responded to at first. Just for the record.
