I agree with much of this and I believe that Rex's view is far closer to that of your average punter on the terraces than much of the stuff you will find on forums. Leave the board to get on with running the club and support the shirt is the gist of it. As soon as new signings are announced, most people will look forward to the challenge of our first season in the Skrill and they will get behind the team. Of course there will still be anger and disappointment, but people soon get used to the lower level of football, as we have in League Two. Where Rex loses it, in my view, is when he says "until people start engaging with each other in a more reasonable manner( and it IS a two way street) then the downward spiral will continue." I wrote to the chairman back in February, having been given his email address by the club, asking him to reconsider Kevin Spencer's lifetime ban from the club and, more importantly in this thread, making a series of contructive comments as to how to unite supporters. He hasn't replied yet but then he has been very busy at the club, not least in planning for the new UWE stadium. (For what it's worth, I wrote to two other directors about Mr Spencer's lifetime ban. One didn't reply and the other, Mr Seymour Smith, replied saying - and I paraphrase, but only just - "Nothing to do with me, guv.") I must have missed all these announcements that Rex describes as being "met with derision", but even if that's how they were greeted, aren't those who want more than 'Ragbag Rovers' entitled to their view? OR 'if I were a board member reading the forums, and saw that almost every announcement regarding car boot sales etc. was being mocked, then I might begin to think to myself' perhaps these car boot sales are not such a good idea after all....

I must have missed all these announcements that Rex describes as being "met with derision", but even if that's how they were greeted, aren't those who want more than 'Ragbag Rovers' entitled to their view? Rick, reading it back I didn't make my point well at all, I should have mentioned that if I were a board member reading the forums, and saw that almost every announcement regarding car boot sales etc. was being mocked, then I might begin to think to myself 'f them then' and be even less likely to build bridges than I already was, there does come a point when both sides (and btw it's an appalling state of affairs that there are two apparently opposite sides in what should be a football club) have to start talking to get things improved. FWIW I still think Kevin's ban was a shameful act, and several supporters- including yourself- have been treated pretty shoddily, in an ideal world I would love to see the board host an open to all meeting, and begin by apologising for that. What a breath of fresh air that would be!
"F them then" is what they think of us anyway. Remember the blatant bull**** about going to Cheltenham, and the 'high profile friendly' which was why they couldn't start demolishing the Mem', and the two fingers stuck up to the B&G campaign, and the treatment of Kevin Spencer, and the bull**** about olive branches? I could go on and on. The only way this shower could show any more contempt for us would be to trash the club completely to line their own pockets, and I wouldn't write off that happening sometime soon.

I agree but one thing I will say, Brian is no mug and could be playing the long game here. Regardless of the flack and apparent cedeing to the board, I think Brian has the fans at heart but is hamstrung right now. I have spoken to him at length and know his frustrations. Imagine how it must feel to have anything you say vetoed if the board do not like it. Must be pretty bad. I trust him in all honesty and believe he could be a good ally. If ever the current BoD were to move on, Brian does have contacts. It's a Dogs life for him. He will continue to take the flak for a board who never even has the brass balls to do the TV interviews and put him in to bat. Yes, on the surface it would seem he does the boards bidding but I believe he has his own plans just that they need to be done within the constraints of the present administration. Oh, poor poor Brian. To think I helped put him in this awful position. I'm ashamed of myself. If only I could take back the money I put into that £1m plus pot. Just resign Brian. And take Kenny with you. The sooner the better. Kenny is still there Anne??? Can't say any of us ever noticed he was to be fair. Sorry to say it but the pair of them are honorary chocolate teapots for their work in representing the fanbase.

Bit like Bas,s sack the board, old records get very tedious and eventually lose any impact they may once have had if the message is right though the fight can NEVER be abandoned Who is to say it is right?

if the message is right though the fight can NEVER be abandoned Who is to say it is right? Do you take his "sake the Board" comments literally then? Turning to the "fight" is it not blindingly obvious that something isn't right? Do you think it is "normal" that a football club, with a regular 6,000 supporters at games and a potential 50,000, in a city the size of Bristol, is not in the Football League? Other than a brief blip we have been heading this way for the past 20 years.

Dont know enough of what went on,and i never take 2nd hand views as gospel,so unless i get both sides of the story i cannot say whether it is right or not.The same goes for you,so as far as i am concerned it is a broken record, and if KS isnt worried whether his ban is lifted or not the argument is immaterial

I did ask for any evidence of why the ban was put in place in the first place so that I could review any comments and apologise if necessary. Unfortunately Nick has never been able to produce anything for me to see although he did say he would look into it over the summer. The meeting I had with Nick Higgs was a good one and he convinced me that he wanted to end the ban. Unfortunately he obviously doesn't get all his own way.

It is obvious that the club have made some real blunders - especially in the PR department- in recent times. Banning of fans for daring to express an opinion, giving out a rallying call just before shutting down the club forum, I could go on, but it would be a pretty long list. However, just because the club have made huge mistakes, I don't believe it is right- or helpful- to criticise every tiny announcement or bit of news that comes out of BS7 HQ- I can't believe I am the only one who finds it tiresome. Just in the past couple of weeks there have been several scathing posts regarding everything from holding car boot sales, giving away beach towels and how crap the polo shirts are. So what if the club hold a car boot sale- I really can't see the problem, I guess some would argue it is amateurish- although for the life of me I can't see why- it's a small attempt at raising some cash- no harm done. So the club want to give away a beach towel as a token prize in a harmless competition that some people might even enjoy taking part it- what's the issue with that? Some people aren't happy with the quality of our merchandise, but I don't think over the top rants (and there have been a few) will help matters- I would imagine most reasonable people would respond to constructive criticism, but I know what my reaction would be to an over the top rant. Many fans may well consider that the walls that have been built up is the fault of the club, but they certainly won't come down while every announcement is met with derision. I think if we announced Messi was signing some people would say we should have gone for Ronaldo. For whatever reason there is a huge divide between the club and the fans at the moment, but until people start engaging with each other in a more reasonable manner( and it IS a two way street) then the downward spiral will continue. f me, if Martin McGuiness and The Queen can shake hands, surely between us we can sort this mess out. It still doesn't get any easier to type, but we have been relegated to the Conference. We are no longer a league club. We finished 91st out of 92 clubs and second bottom of a division containing Accrington Stanley, Daggenham, Torquay, Fleetwood. That should never, ever have been allowed to happen or even come close to happening. It highlights gross negligence and incompetence of the highest order.
The half arsed response from the board has included promising a thorough top to bottom review of themselves (i.e. do f*ck all and carry on as before) while closing the forum and initiating a news blackout. How is the review going into how this happened and WHAT are you doing about it? I don't think that sacking the stadium staff f******g covers it.
Meanwhile, the deafening silence is broken only to give news about car boot sales, beach towels and how everything is ok because at least we have less miles to travel to away matches next season. FFS. :wallbang: I don't give a sh*t what tat they want to flog off or how many car boot sales they want to advertise, in normal circumstances. These are not normal circumstances, this is our darkest hour. Our entire existence is at stake here, and if we are ever to come back there needs to be some overwhelmingly radical changes. I don't see this happening, all I see us plodding on the same amateur manner as before with the same lazy, lackadaisical and condescending manner. It's nothing to do with beach towels.
NAIL ON THE HEAD. WELL SAID.
