It is obvious that the club have made some real blunders - especially in the PR department- in recent times. Banning of fans for daring to express an opinion, giving out a rallying call just before shutting down the club forum, I could go on, but it would be a pretty long list. However, just because the club have made huge mistakes, I don't believe it is right- or helpful- to criticise every tiny announcement or bit of news that comes out of BS7 HQ- I can't believe I am the only one who finds it tiresome. Just in the past couple of weeks there have been several scathing posts regarding everything from holding car boot sales, giving away beach towels and how crap the polo shirts are. So what if the club hold a car boot sale- I really can't see the problem, I guess some would argue it is amateurish- although for the life of me I can't see why- it's a small attempt at raising some cash- no harm done. So the club want to give away a beach towel as a token prize in a harmless competition that some people might even enjoy taking part it- what's the issue with that? Some people aren't happy with the quality of our merchandise, but I don't think over the top rants (and there have been a few) will help matters- I would imagine most reasonable people would respond to constructive criticism, but I know what my reaction would be to an over the top rant. Many fans may well consider that the walls that have been built up is the fault of the club, but they certainly won't come down while every announcement is met with derision. I think if we announced Messi was signing some people would say we should have gone for Ronaldo. For whatever reason there is a huge divide between the club and the fans at the moment, but until people start engaging with each other in a more reasonable manner( and it IS a two way street) then the downward spiral will continue. f**k me, if Martin McGuiness and The Queen can shake hands, surely between us we can sort this mess out.

You know there are certain posters who will bash the board no matter what they do. I did all my bashing at the last game last season. Me personally I've moved on, new season and new hope & optimism. I'm giving the board & club 100% now. How long that lasts for, who knows...

Whilst admittedly I contributed to the polo short bashing.
Generally (to be hypocritical) I have grown tired of the negatitivity and you're spot on with your post!
Positivity breeds positivity and vice versa.

Different people feel like bashing different things to a different degree. If everything was going well you'd still get some moaners, and if everything is going badly you still get some positive people. Meanwhile everyone has their own personal limit to what they can put up with. Also it can be therapeutic. You should probably try to tolerate other people's reactions to what is going on as other people tolerate yours. If you'd rather whine about the whiners while they whine about the board that's your preference. It's not the correct answer, just what you have chosen. Other people might be just as pissed off with reading that as you are with reading posts whining about polo shirts.

Whilst posting up, relentlessly, sack the board etc is tedious and nonsense, being critical is deserved and warranted. I have asked you before Rex, the only way that hard core fans / supporters will not express opinions is if they act in supine acquiescence (the norm at BRFC) or they just become customers who act on value perception. You know what has happened in the first scenario, what do you think will happen in the second?
The two issues you quote, beach towels and car boot sales, are innocuous and irrelevant in normal times, but in abnormal times and in a communications vacume they are both funny and frightening. Images of Rome and Nero spring to mind.
But if you are happy with that each to their own. You probably also accept that the stadium financing adds up and the operational P&L is tenable thereafter, because thats what you have been told, told with a complete lack of evidence.
I am sure you dont make decisions like that in your personal life.

I have no problem with people having a moan about anything, what i find difficult to understand is that these same people jump on people with a different view and call them "Rose Tinters" etc
Everybody has the right to an opinion and to express it, i just hope some people on here can respect that

Absolutely nothing wrong with a Car Boot Sale, Beach Towel Offer, Polo Shirts, it's normal practice, but their is no balance, fans are waiting for some news of meaning and importance from our leaders.

I dont have an issue with advertising England Polo shirts on the back of Lambert and the world cup as its sensible marketing (i do however have a prob with Rovers selling cheap tat at inflated prices but thats a issue for the person that chooses to buy said cheap tat) and no problem with Car boots (the car boots are a good idea and make use of an empty non earning space )
But i do understand the feeling of negativity towards most of what the club do... after such devestating news the club should be offering every sense of positivity it can to the fans and for every beach towel/car boot ect announcement they should be offering news on stuff the fans want to hear ... even just a short snippet saying we are in talks with 3 /4 players and an announcement will be made asap or god forbid some positive stadium news. I worry about the stadium as this was the easiest optio to get the good feeling back.. a big thing signing some contracts at the site , cutting the first bit of land ect would have had most of the fans back on side, this could have been done by now.. IF the plans are 100% still going ahead (as has been stated by NH) so why havent they been?

It's amazing how apparent minor little obstacles appear to hold everything up. I mean an update on when they hope to start would be something, even if it was to hear that the stadium would no longer be ready for 2015/16 but will be going ahead

It still doesn't get any easier to type, but we have been relegated to the Conference. We are no longer a league club. We finished 91st out of 92 clubs and second bottom of a division containing Accrington Stanley, Daggenham, Torquay, Fleetwood. That should never, ever have been allowed to happen or even come close to happening. It highlights gross negligence and incompetence of the highest order.
The half arsed response from the board has included promising a thorough top to bottom review of themselves (i.e. do f*ck all and carry on as before) while closing the forum and initiating a news blackout. How is the review going into how this happened and WHAT are you doing about it? I don't think that sacking the stadium staff f******g covers it.
Meanwhile, the deafening silence is broken only to give news about car boot sales, beach towels and how everything is ok because at least we have less miles to travel to away matches next season. FFS. :wallbang: I don't give a sh*t what tat they want to flog off or how many car boot sales they want to advertise, in normal circumstances. These are not normal circumstances, this is our darkest hour. Our entire existence is at stake here, and if we are ever to come back there needs to be some overwhelmingly radical changes. I don't see this happening, all I see us plodding on the same amateur manner as before with the same lazy, lackadaisical and condescending manner. It's nothing to do with beach towels.

WOW! I'm not quite sure what to say. I think you have just spoken for tens of thousands of people in Bristol and supporters spread all over the world.

It is all about beach towels. We failed to get our beach towel on the League 2 sun loungers before the Accrington, Dagenham and Morecambe beach towels....

I actually caught myself thinking for a moment 'I'm sick of griping and moaning' as I posted on the polo shirt thread last night. I don't like keeping my gob shut if I think there's the slightest chance that saying something will change things for the better, but I do believe that you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar and usually try to include something positive if I'm airing a grievance. I even wondered for a minute what a thread full of only positive things about the club would look like, but quickly concluded that right now it would be a very short one. I don't have to think nearly as hard though to recall that stunned feeling of devastation and emptiness of just a few short weeks ago that came when the words '...and Bristol Rovers have been relegated. Bristol Rovers are out of the league...' came floating out of the radio. The feeling that nothing I could ever do or say would change such shocking finality, that a massive vacuum where my blue and white heart had been thudding moments earlier was going to make it impossible to even try, and that the club had just dropped dead around my earholes. Worse still was the thought that in that moment, thousands of us would be feeling the same way. What got me out of this funk was seeing a lad of about nine wearing a Rovers shirt a day or two later (granted, it was the Purple Shirt Of Doom, but let's not go there ). Suddenly, there was a future after all, and that lad was representing it. I decided on the spot that if the day ever came when he woke up to find that there was only red left in Bristol (shudder), it would not be because I had not helped to fight his corner and had just sat and watched while our club went down the pan. While it bothers me that we're not finding much to be positive about at the moment and I'm more than keen that we find it, I'm glad that the feeling of stunned apathy has been replaced by a feeling that I care enough to complain and can't help being relieved that others are feeling it too. I'm not looking to be a 'board basher'. I'd be quite happy to see everyone mucking in together - 'us' AND 'them' - to produce a Bristol Rovers that rises phoenix-like from the ashes of relegation with all guns blazing, one that we can all get behind and be proud of. Unfortunately, by making decisions that will only fracture the fanbase like closing the official forum instead of employing a couple of extra moderators while things were still raw (pitching in on there themselves would not have hurt either) and holding live forums that only season ticket holders and Supporters Club members can attend, the board keep demonstrating that they don't feel the same way. I'd point this all out to them if only I could condense it into 140 characters on Twitter

BSS has said, many times, that we are crying out for leadership from Nick. I have kept this to myself until now but I have nothing to lose in divulging this. He has said the board room is very much an us and them thing and that it frustrates the hell out of him. I do feel BSS is trying to do a job but he needs the backing. I have had many a dig but I see no alternative when the board can literally do as they will. If that means giving is the mushroom treatment then they really do not care.
