This is a very short match report due to the fact I am feeling totally disillusioned at the moment. Not with the football played but the results which everybody knows have been a total disaster.
The football at times was pretty good and we could have scored 5 or 6 because Wycombe were not that good but you can't give free goals to any team and at the moment we are giving presents left right and centre. Even if we had scored 4 I get the feeling Wycombe would have scored five especially with the referee who was a total embarrassment and may as well have had a Wycombe shirt on such was his influence. Two footed tackles, two penalties and a keenness to book anybody who questioned his awful decision making..
Blackman 6 A bit dodgy decision making at times but couldn't really do much about the goals although I feel Annsi would have stopped two of them as he was an exceptional shot stopper and one of the main reasons we were once fourth.
Little 6 Didn't do a lot wrong IMO.
Kilgour 6 Mixed game . His passing ability is questionable at times and still has a mistake in him and at the moment most mistakes are ending up in our net.
Craig 4 Not at his best as is not really suited to this style of play and his marking was awful and not helped by the inept Leahy
Leahy 2 One word - Awful. At fault for two if not all three of the goals. Instead of taking attacking free kicks and or corners he should be working on how to mark a player, how to take a throw in and how to tackle- the basics for any defender.
Upson 5.5 but did play a wonderful pass to Clarke-Harris for the shot that hit the underside of the bar.
Ogogo 5 Bit better than last week but he's very limited in ability which is a key ingredient in the BG way of playing
Clarke 5 Worked hard but to little avail . Lacks the quality to play BG type of football.
Rodman 6 Great at times but didn't do much at others.
Clarke-Harris 7 gave his all and with a bit of luck would have claimed a hattrick. Tremendous rocket shot that somehow hit the underside of the bar and came out. He needs a partner up front who scores goals regularly
Mitchell-Lawson 8 mom Great goal and followed up on last weeks display with an all action display and surely was fouled when he went to head a pin point Rodman cross into the net from a yard out.
Subs: Abraham nole
Ginnelly nole
Barrett 5 Too late to make any difference.
Crowd 7 Entertained and stayed behind the team. Wycombe for a team doing so well were so quiet it was like a library.
Ref 1 Enough said already. Another who should be refereeing park football but even then it would be insulting our local referees.
Wycombe 6 Do what they do well but aren't a particularly good team .I hope they go up because they will come straight back down.
BG The problem as I see it is down to the owners and my reason is that the team were not broken and though the football was not good it did NOT require a complete refit. The defending was more than adequate and the main problem was in midfield where we totally lacked pace and up front all we needed was a 20 goal a season striker to partner Clarke-Harris.
THERE LIES THE PROBLEM
With seven new players we still have Upson, Ollie Clarke,Ogogo and Leahy playing regularly with Clarke Harris STILL the only recognised goalscorer.
Instead of 7 loans we could easily have got by with five if one was a goalscorer, two midfielders and a goalkeeper. The other could have been either of the wingers we have on loan. The problem is that it is unlikely we would have got the goalscorer on a free transfer.
It is easy to make a team more attacking by injecting a bit of pace and a goalscorer and pushing up the pitch a bit and organising to close opponents down high up the pitch.
As it is they brought in a Manager with a completely different idea on how football is played and with the aim of getting in as many players as possible and as cheaply as possible. So we are where we are and we just have to hope that we can stay up this season which surely should be possible and try and have a good finish which generally signals how you are going to do the following season.
We have to hope that there is a possibility of signing the loans if they are successful or we will be in another completely rebuilding state at the seasons end.
There is IMO no point in changing manager now and we have to buckle up for the ride and hope. It could work in the long term .
I won't be going to Tranmere on Tuesday if the game is played and in all honesty I probably need a rest. Its not a must win game but it would be a welcome win for confidence which has not yet but could well go if we don't get a win soon.
My team for Tuesday would be
Blackman
Little
Davies or Kilgour
Harris
Holmes-Dennis
Ginnelly
Upson
Barratt
Clarke-Harris
Abrahams or Crystal Palace lad if fit
Mitchel-Lawson
UTG
