Was one of Coughlin's regular lines... Shame the same couldn't be said of him. I wonder how the players he brought to the club just a few months ago and had to move to the area feel now. The writing was perhaps on the wall when after only a few months in charge he appeared to be very interested in the Plymouth job (which ironically is further away from Sheffield than Bristol). Will be interesting to see where his managerial career takes him...if he does well at Mansfield and a bigger more established southern club like say Reading wanted him, would he turn them down as they're not close to Sheffield... or conversely if he didn't do well and he had to restart at a lower level would say Cambridge or Newport be too far away from Sheffield for an out of work manager. He leaves after doing a damn fine job but without any class... Looking forward to seeing if he's ever on an episode of 'who do you think you are' to see if he's a relative of snakey

Those players would all move on at the drop of a hat if something more appealing came their way.

A certain Ian Holloway was one for chasing "the bigger picture " i believe, so lets just not look at one man here who has gone, but at some on here who would have IH back in a flash!! hyypocritical views?

We're all hypocrites when it comes to what we want one minute and then apparently don't want the next. All part and parcel.

Its not the fact that Coughlan left the club. The appropriate thing to have done would have been to wait until the scheduled meeting on Monday and then make his wishes clear to Starmes. The two clubs would then arrive at a mutual agreement, Coughlan would be released from his contract and compensation would be agreed. Instead, he has scuttled away to Mansfield without so much as a backwards look, leaving others (most notably Joe Dunne) to clean up the mess he has left behind. To recap: He openly disrespected his own players but dropping his bombshell immediately after the game, thereby distracting from what should have been the focus of attention. He openly disrespected the fans by trying to give the impression that he was still open to staying at the club when he was in fact trying to force a move to Mansfield. And he openly disrespected the board by trying to shift the blame onto them by implying that he had not received sufficient support. He has apparently apologised personally to Starmes for the way he has conducted himself. Why not the board, the fans and his former players?

I think the way he went about it was very poor but the end result here was inevitable.
We got him on the cheap. His stock his now high. He asked for more money. The board said no way, FFP and you signed a contract. Mansfield offered him more money and also closer to home.
I expect he had also already asked for more money for players in Jan. The board had said FFP, we'll be selling first.

He took the job in the full knowledge it was subject to tight financial constraints. He calculated implying a lack of support would make him look better in the eyes of the fans, and was in this respect correct, as a number of fans picked this stick up and began to beat the Al-Qadis with it. Starnes did not mention any request for an improved contract. The issue is what he said in the interview. He was in a hole and dug himself deeper.

Poor old Coughlan can't even remember why he left us! This from their website; All he had to do was be honest, everybody knows that these guys will abandon ship for more money or a longer contract, now he just looks like a complete plonker. His employer said no, he did it anyway. Hope it goes totally belly up and nobody ever employs you in the game again. Snake V11.

He leaves after doing a damn fine job but without any class... That sums it up perfectly well. I didn't like him. I would have replaced him after two full years. Our manager from December 2018 to Dec 2020. I don't like 'keep sacking managers. The Higgs model took us out of the league. He went a year early without us losing cash. No sacking, no payout, no failure. We get to start afresh without loss of money. Plus we're fourth in the third division. A good outcome for Mansfield, Coughlan, and us. But no respect for Coughlan the man. Bye mate.

Football is a funny one, any other walk of life no one could really bemoan this move for Graham. The patter he surrounded it with though, his "well, actually" attitude is hilarious. Personally I hope he has a stinker and is out at the end of the season, lots more time to spend with the family then.

I bet all of our ears will be burning when Mansfield play Walsall next up ! Yes, but I think this Saturday will be tasty as well. Northampton and their No. 14 may well want to do well against Coughlan. He may well have a point or two to prove. UTG!
