I agree a manager who is popular with the players is usually a recipe for disaster. Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp need to sort themselves out. Bloody popular managers ruining their respective Clubs Hence the word usually and not always.

I don't think that Klopp was popular to start with. The squad weren't up to the fitness levels he wanted and he gave them the SAS treatment until they were. So the story goes anyway.

The other thing to come out of this, Mansfield approached last week, nobody on forums, Facebook etc had any idea that anything was going on. When someone tells you that 'my source in the club says'' take it with a huge pinch of salt. Leaks from the club since .... But we got a plumber in recently to fix that leak. Hamer has gone, hasn't he?

Everything I've ever heard is that the players didn't like him, so will be interesting to see how they respond to this. Not buying this 'closer to my family' line, not for a second. So much for Wael and his ambition, we've just lost our manager to a 4th tier club with 4000 supporters. Closer to family worked for Browner though, didn't it!?? Hey maybe Mansfield also need a Commercial Director.....TG & GC in one hit!?

The feedback I have been hearing isn’t good about GC. I will be very interested on how this affects attendance, if at all simonj I agree about the dour home games but although I totally agree about losing him to poxy Mansfield, makes me feel we are being really frugal and now 2 managers have decided to leave due to near enough the same reasons. At least DC did not say anything about his family. GC was supposed to be the hard man, or so I thought. Lots are saying Ollie to come back, until end of season, personally I don’t think it wise but I’m positive the crowds would rocket, even if transient in nature He doesn’t seem very likeable and that.’s just his media image so imagine behind closed doors it must be worse- look at his handling of Lines. But that being said, you have to wonder what sort of reaction you can expect from a team. Normally when a disliked manager leaves the players raise their game and go on a winning run whereas we already are on a winning run so I have to wonder how he was coaxing those wins out of us if everyone disliked him so much. You raise some good points. As eppinggas has said, makes me wonder if the team played a blinder in the knowledge he was off. It would seem Dunne is not going with him as he took training today

KP - I thought I read somewhere that GC said JD would be going with him. Could be wrong.

Pochitino is free..... then it's the thought of a Champions league final that might put Wael off

When the club said it has allowed Mansfield to go ahead and have talks with GC , I assumed they meant today!!

Had a quick look on the Mansfield forum. The take there is Rovers are not spending money and have no plans to. Who knows..Certainly if someone albeit manager or player wants to go, better they go. Biggest worry was the succession of failing managers in the years previous to DC. Experienced and costly who didn't perform. DC and GC were not big names, but produced results.
Hope for a third lucky gamble?

Well they probably read our forums which is full of suggestions that there is no money to spend.
But you are correct the most successful managers have had limited experience. Megson Francis Trollope Clarke
All with promotions on cv with us.

Bristol Live understands the hierarchy at Rovers had no idea of the extent of Coughlan’s unhappiness and did not know of the former Plymouth apparent defender’s sense of resentment until he announced it in his post-match press conference.
There has been a sense of confusion around the club regarding Coughlan's complaints as he was well aware of the restrictions when he accepted the full-time job in January, knowing the relative financial excess of previous seasons had to be curbed.
Chief executive Martyn Starnes and Head of Recruitment Tommy Widdrington held an emergency meeting in Bristol on Sunday with Al-Qadi joining via video link from Jordan to discuss what happens next, with the club already sounding out potential replacements should the seeming inevitable happen and Coughlan leave.
'Frustration' and 'emotion': Every word from Graham Coughlan's final press conference as Bristol Rovers manager In the dressing room at Portman Road, Coughlan told his players, and later rang those not involved on Saturday, that he was leaving for an unnamed League Two club and would also be taking assistant Joe Dunne with him.

Again, if true, more abject management from the club. Your staff are your strongest asset, every business owner understands this and that you need to constantly communicate with them and make sure that, in both directions, everybody understands what everybody else is trying to do and that there's agreement as to how that is going to be achieved. I thought that Higgs running of the club was poor, these guys are beginning to make him look rather good. Now, let's take a look around the board room, who do we have with contacts in the game, a little black book of numbers, someone ideal for a crisis like this? I know, we have Hamer...

When someone tells you that 'my source in the club says'' take it with a huge pinch of salt. Leaks from the club since these owners arrived are few and far between. Sounds like club and board caught on hop. Maybe they sent it to Hamer without knowing he was gone, and it just sat oblivious on empty desk. Perhaps it went to Hamers house, he opened it and has spent last five days laughing.
