The Club can confirm that it has reluctantly given permission for Manager Graham Coughlan to speak to Mansfield Town about the vacant position at the One Call Stadium. Two approaches were made last week by the Sky Bet League Two side requesting permission to speak with Graham Coughlan about the manager's position, both were rejected by the club. However, it became apparent that the interest from Mansfield was significant and due to the fact that Graham had been working away from his family home in Sheffield for the last decade, it was evident that he would welcome the opportunity to work closer to his family and we therefore reluctantly granted permission to Mansfield to discuss terms. Joe Dunne led training this morning to prepare the squad for Tuesday's Emirates FA Cup replay at Home Park and he will continue to be assisted by Kevin Maher, Adrian Tucker and Lee Mansell. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2019/december/graham-coughlan-statement/

Everything I've ever heard is that the players didn't like him, so will be interesting to see how they respond to this.
Not buying this 'closer to my family' line, not for a second.
So much for Wael and his ambition, we've just lost our manager to a 4th tier club with 4000 supporters.

Maybe they were celebrating yesterday then. Bodes well for the rest of the season if so.
The family line - if I were his wife and I missed having him around, I'd probably be putting a bit of pressure on him to seriously consider Mansfield's offer. She might be happy to have him away most of the time, you never know, but his kids probably aren't. And if he doesn't feel loved here maybe the idea of being where he is is just a little bit appealing. Add to that the 'more money' that's being talked about on here, it's a no brainer really. That's before we get into any plans our owners may or may not have for this club.

I feel ok about this and GC leaving. I accept he got us results in his time here, but I haven't enjoyed his style. Get some compo and it will be a decent outcome imo.
However, Mansfield and their 9,000 capacity stadium, league position, being deemed a better prospect with spending and facilities, this sucks a lot.

The feedback I have been hearing isn’t good about GC. I will be very interested on how this affects attendance, if at all simonj I agree about the dour home games but although I totally agree about losing him to poxy Mansfield, makes me feel we are being really frugal and now 2 managers have decided to leave due to near enough the same reasons. At least DC did not say anything about his family. GC was supposed to be the hard man, or so I thought. Lots are saying Ollie to come back, until end of season, personally I don’t think it wise but I’m positive the crowds would rocket, even if transient in nature

I am prepared to accept he wanted to see his family more the only problem is that he said it was for "personal and professional reasons". So what are the professional reasons?

That's the exact point I was making. Not a good word comes out of the club about him, bit of a bully etc, but the League position can't be argued with, hence, it will be interesting to see how the players respond. Criticised if you explain everything simplistically, write things normally and it's a bit of a challenge for some to work it out.

If BRFC get some compensation as well... it's no-brainer for GC and Dwane Sports. IMHO come January we'll be having an "everything must go event" anyway. It's either that, or the Al-Qadi's start digging deep into their respective pockets. GC going and them getting some comp in is an early Christmas present.

Protracted negotiations as follows: MTFC: Hi Graham, we're going to pay you more money and we have a budget for you to buy some new players at Mansfield. We'll sort out the comp with Dwane Sports. GC: Where do I sign.

But that being said, you have to wonder what sort of reaction you can expect from a team. Normally when a disliked manager leaves the players raise their game and go on a winning run whereas we already are on a winning run so I have to wonder how he was coaxing those wins out of us if everyone disliked him so much.

For perspective, I've just been on Plymouth Forum. Interesting the balance seen from outside of our club.
Somehow, somewhere, sometime soon, will we receive something positive? Something I believe we surely deserve. How can our club keep delivering scraps for the fans to dine on. We haven't really had many false dawns, just lots of hollow promises. This new lot have to take the biscuit of what should and could have been, I was fooled again. Nick Higgs wherever you are, what the hell did you agree? As long as we survive, the Rovers fans can claim to be the best, I genuinely believe that.

Not that either, just thought people reading didn't need stuff written in a Janet and John style. My mistake.

The other thing to come out of this, Mansfield approached last week, nobody on forums, Facebook etc had any idea that anything was going on.
When someone tells you that 'my source in the club says'' take it with a huge pinch of salt. Leaks from the club since these owners arrived are few and far between.

I agree a manager who is popular with the players is usually a recipe for disaster.
