While no fan of this manager, it would be somewhat churlish to sack him on the day we moved up to a playoff fifth position in the third division. Yes - a trifle churlish, all things considered. GC seems to be a specialist in the curate's egg situation when it comes to football matches - unbelievably poor and unappetising in parts and yet with the very pleasing flavour of ten goals in the last 3 league matches. Yes, you’ve summed it up nicely. I simply can’t rationalise it. By rights we should be getting our ass kicked, his footballing philosophy makes Big Sam look like Guardiola...and yet we keep winning and scoring goals. It defies convention. The commentator specifically mentioned our shots on goal numbers in the second half yesterday and I can only surmise our success is built on lots of shots of goal and that we must have a higher level of accuracy than average so that even Playing the most basic bitch football imaginable if we can get a shot away we stand a good chance of getting our nose in front at some point. By contrast Southend played well, could have had six in the first half but ended up getting routed by 4 goals in one half. They are like the inverse of us and raise the sobering question of, as bad as our style is would we rather play like Southend and lose or play like us and win?

I have come to the conclusion that many of our fans don't know s*** from pudding. We have a manager that has made excellent signings, got us to mid table after looking certs for relegation , wins cup games and has got us into a play off position (with a game in hand). Shrewsbury away was apparently one of the most entertaining games in years and we have scored 4 goals in two of our last 3 league games While undoubtedly yesterdays first half was grim, even at 2-0 I thought if we got an early goal we would win, this bunch of players have proved time and again that they will work hard for each other and the manager. As for the OP suggesting GC should take Ogogo with him, words fail me, we will be lucky if we hang on to him! If social media was around in 1990, Gerry Francis, Devon White, Andy Reece, Jock the fing lot of them would have been hounded out of the club by dolts who wouldn't know a good team if it him them in the face like a misplaced Geoff Twentyman clearance. I'm off for a bit to watch the election coverage , where I will hear politicians talking some comparatively good sense! All over Facebook too, these exact words. Almost as if you copied and pasted it. By the way, it was your round yesterday. We were sat in the back room waiting for beer delivery. Nothing materialised. Tut.

I have been quite a harsh critic of GC but i totally disagree with the op both in terms of the manager and some of the players he wants out. In the 2nd half today we played direct football how it should be played. By that i mean with aggression.attacking intent as well as genuine width. Too often with coughlan we are too static and passive albeit with decent defensive performance. Today reminded me of the portsmouth game in that we really got after our opponents and they folded. I believe if the manager and the team can be pro-active in really getting after the opposition we will see more of what we saw in the 2nd half today. Read what their manager is saying, I agree with him. We got 1, they just fell to pieces and stopped doing everything that got them 2-0 up. They lost that game every bit as much as we won it. You can believe whatever you like, but not many teams will fold like they did today. They don’t have to fold, look at Shrewsbury last week, came back from 2-0 down and yet we sneaked it at the end. There is certainly a grim resilience (a natural perk of playing an attritional style perhaps?) where we simply won’t be denied and it’s driving us on at the moment. Is it sustainable over 46 games? I have my doubts but, like others, I’m warming to the idea that we might just be able to absolutely blag a promotion with this motley crew. Hamer was right, we are currently way more Crazy Gang than even he imagined.

Just look at their 2nd goal, torn to pieces, none of the defenders had a clue who was supposed to be doing what because going with a runner would have meant moving out of position. Can't remember who it was, but we got totally stuffed 4-0 at home a few years back, the performance was dire, the first half yesterday was that bad, yet we end up winning. Anyway, with a bit of luck it's going to be another bad day for Newco.

Anybody who compares this lot to what we had in 1990 either wasn't there or can't remember. We had some very good players in that team. Let's play a little game if anybody is interested, who from the present squad would have got in to the 1990 promotion team? I'll kick things off with 2 obvious ones. Keeper. Not a chance. Right back. Not a chance.

Shrewsbury was indeed a great game.Up here ,Stoke could be coming to the Mem next season and have another new manager ,this time with no experience of managing in England.Muff fans love Cogs and I think we are lucky to have him.Still short of much up front without JCH and yet to be convinced by either loanee but despite a dump of a ground which is hardly likely to attract players,Cogs is defying the odds.

Coughlan is doing great. He’s achieving a lot of relatively less resources than other clubs around the top of the table. He’s proved himself and he’s made smart choices in his gameplay this season. He’s got passion, a good coaching team and players playing for their shirt. Some of us Gasheads need to be careful what we’re wishing for. I’m looking forward to seeing what the transfer window brings over Christmas. southends number 7 was brilliant, sign him.

I thought they looked pretty awful when we played them, but there they sit, on 40 points already.

Graham has done a fantastic job at Rovers. He has us from 4th tier certainties to challengers in the 3rd tier.A small budget and still being stuck with at least one poor DC signing. There are of course different ways to play the game, but we have found a way that makes us difficult to beat and with a chance of winning. We take the field with tough players now, maybe 7 or 8 a game.We do not carry passengers when the opposition have the ball.I particularly like this as much as our Opposition hate it.We have a goalscorer.Versatile defenders. An excellent GK.A coaching staff GC is apparently happy with.Etc. We are in the play off race! I actually think anyone who wants GC out is speaking absolute unfathomable twaddle.

We're over performing, but at least we're not at the other end, very happy with this season. We deserve to be 5th on merit, well done GC

According to RB yesterday, we were close to signing him but Southend got in there first.

While I am not enjoying it when we let teams walk right through us, the table doesn’t lie. We are lucky to have some if the players the OP speaks off. The internet has dumbed so many down and mostly because people won’t do their own research. Lazy beyond belief

Well said KP and Rex. The people you refer to Rex put me in mind of those Lineker referred to some weeks back who stand on the touchline at kids' games ranting and raving at the young players. I assume they think it makes them look like top coaches, when in fact they are the opposite.
