At home to Coventry or Ipswich... IF we win the replay.
I have a good mate who is an Ipswich supporter so would love to see us play them. We also have to avenge that Bobby Gould offside goal that wasn't offside the last time we played them at home in the cup in 19??. We would have won on the day but went on to get stuffed 6-0 in the replay at Portman Road.
Also great to see ex Gas legend John Rudge representing Port Vale on the TV. A great servent for Rovers in his day.

Jeff I think that the Rovers v Ipswich cup games were 1978...2-2 at Eastville then Rovers lose 3-0 in replay at Ipswich 1979 ...Ipswich beat Rovers 6-1 at Ipswich 1985 Rovers1-2 Ipswich The game in the snow at Eastville was great and some of it is on YouTube.

I just watched the YouTube clip showing Rovers second goal and Bobby Goulds disallowed one. Atmosphere like that at matches is impossible now for various reasons (some for the better) so glad that I was about in those days.

That 1985 game was a very good game of football which istr we were unlucky to lose. Jason Dozzell made his debut for them that day. UTG!

Dozzell beating Cashley from 175 yards with last kick of game. 78 Ipswich go on to win cup, they sing Wembley Wembley on way out ground in 85. The snow that day though was unpredicted, started about 11, was more occasional snow shower. the incredible weather 98 blew up in second half on a par with that mad first half wind we had against Newport a few years back. It was Newport wasn’t it, the big first half wind?

My memory's as bad as Jeffs, I would have sworn the 6-1 defeat was the replay following the dodgy 2-2 draw with the disallowed goal. I went to both games, skived off school and caught the train for the replay, that`s my recollection of it anyway. I only went to Portman Road once and it was the 6-1. Perhaps that was the following season then, my poor memory. Amazing atmosphere at Portman Road that night.

I was at the '78 replay aswell, went up on an away day coach and had the windscreen put throuh by some London chavs on the North Circular { This was pre M25 days } We then travelled all the way from North London to Portman Road with no windscreen, the driver was a true gent. Anyway, we then proceded to watch us get smashed on the field wondering if we were actually going to be able to get home afterwards but upon returning to the coach the driver had managed to get the glassware sorted and we returned safely to Eastville at around 02.00am, those were the days !!

1978, we were robbed and could have made the final that year.
1998, the coldest I have ever been at a Rovers home match. Great game, but my teeth are chattering thinking about it.
1985, living in Israel. (Apologies if that offends anyone. Or maybe not)

1978 - We could of because if memory serves me correct Ipswich drew Milwall in the Quarters and we played them in the league a couple of weeks later at the Old Den winning 3 - 1, that form would of put us in the semis and a game at Hillsborough of Villa Park and anything could of happened there ! Bloody Brian Daniels from Brentwood in Essex, he was a truely CRAP referee !!

On 14 March a long way ahead I know we are commemorating that 2-2 draw in the snow...The Rovers History Group have invited plyers who played that day Bobby Gould, Phil Bater, Pete Aitken and Paul Randall plus Ipswich player Russell Osman to the Ipswich match that day. It is also the day to celebrate the life and career of Stuart Taylor and to raise funds for Dementia UK. All are welcome in the Club house bars.

The game that Rovers beat Millwall was at Fratton Park, the Den was shut due to violence at the Millwall v Ipswich cup game...some Ipswich fans got battered. I think that Ipswich then beat WBA at Highbury in the semi final ?

Sticks in my memory too as an early 'big game' at the Mem. That mattered when I was young because it was the first time you could see the difference between playing in Bristol and playing in Bath. All these fans suddenly turned up! The one that really bought that home to me was Orient a year later where people were climbing on roofs and lampposts to see into the ground.
The actual game against Ipswich was ridiculous though. Whole match was played at the South End of the ground because the wind made it impossible to clear your lines from that end. The ferns behind the away fans were horizontal to the ground in the wind and the one that really stood out was Barry Hayles going through on goal in front of the clubhouse and actually being knocked off balance by the wind allowing the defender to get back and cover. Not sure I've ever seen the wind that bad at the Mem. Only comparison was one day at Huish Park where the Yeovil goalie had 2 goal kicks go out for corner one of which went over the bar!
