Well then, he should; Get down the gym so that he isn't the weakest player on the pitch. Get a proper coach to analyse his running style, it's horrible, sort that out and he won't be the slowest player on the pitch. When things get tough 1 type of player hides, the other type just gets more determined. 1 of those types is useful in professional sport, the other is a liability. I know it’s presumptive of me but him crying makes me feel he could be having a period of black dog and with both GC & JCH now coming out, to back him, I believe that even more If that were the case, and I have no idea if it is or not, but if it were, then I'm sure the club will be taking good care of him and providing access to professional help. I still stand by my comments above though, unless he sorts out those physical problems he's at a disadvantage on the pitch. But there's no sign of him changing, so I'm not holding my breath. It's a shame, because he's a skilful player with the ball, so there's plenty of potential there.

I was lucky in that I am of a body type that puts on muscle and quickly. Some can work at it for many many months and see very little bulk. Any serious trainer will tell you that eating is the biggest part and six times a day. It’s not everyone that can bulk up just over a summer. It’s a totally different beast to football, where you need your fast twitch muscles to be in top condition. There can be conflicts. what I’m saying is it’s just not anywhere as simple as saying bulk up. Some actually lose weight. Two totally different disciplines but a good coach is a must. I had arguably the best body conditioning coach in the late & great Amir Esmaeli, blessings be upon him

Muscle and strength aren't quite the same thing, but I take your point. If we give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's done everything possible to improve his balance and upper body strength, then he's just not ever going to be a competitive player in today's 3rd tier. I honestly don't know where that leaves him, the 4th and 5th tiers are even more physical.

The other lot are getting stuffed tonight and stats show no shots on target.Tom could be just the man to stop their slide down the table.

So we have 2 players who cant, or wont go to Div 2 clubs because they cannot afford their wages. Says a lot about what we pay. I know we are a league higher but Swindon get similar crowds to us.

Which league 2 teams want nichols? If Tom is prepared to put in the hours monotonously putting the ball in the net, then i have been made aware of possibly a very good career move for him. He may well have to bide his time on the bench for a while, but St Edith's C team who are currently struggling in League 2 of the Bristol and District Billiard's & Snooker League are desperate to recruit a proven striker! UTG Your write this as a joke, but the start of it is a good point. Obviously Andy Cole never made it, nobody from 1982 ever has, but he was part of a documentary once. He gave a brief insight into his training, one tiny bit of in was running straight, turning the upper body through 90 degrees whilst still running, then circling one leg as high as you can as if controlling a pass that comes to you at waist height. Cole did it hundreds of times for each leg, partly to improve balance, partly, just in case that ever happened in a game. He had dozens of exercises like that that he did, alone, after group training had ended. He said that he wasn't gifted, but he worked and worked. Wonder if Nichols is this dedicated or if he's straight off to the coiffeur the moment he's released from training?

If you have listened to GC, in a few interviews then he has said TN trains hard and well. If true then I have to think that he has some kind of phobia or depression. Unless he has a play me if fit contract then I fail to understand the amount of games he has had. I can’t think of any other Rovers player who has had so many chances.

His confidence is screwed at BR. Some players like MT when he first arrived it was like water off a ducks back. TN however has let it get to him. You can see this in his demeanour whilst playing.

No doubt about that but why doesn’t he ask to be loaned out or for help ? It seems there is more to this than us mere fans will get to know. He seems a decent enough ball player but he’s definitely not a striker and posh did a brilliant bit of business in selling him as one

Hope he does but as you say does look like more to this.
