Holloway saying he was the best he ever managed.
I remember him but was too young to appreciate him. When you’re a kid the only players you really like are strikers. You can’t apprexiate the nuance of midfielders.
He played 29 games. I wonder if any of that is on film?
If anyone can direct me to it, I might put together a YouTube vid of his skills.
Do folks recall him being brilliant? Or was his knee too done in?

In my early years supporting the gas Marcus Stewart was a superstar in my eyes. And Browning was just some bloke that got the ball into the attacking half of the pitch and then gave it to Stewy to work his magic! Sorry if slightly off-topic.

Saw Jamie play a few times, from memory he had a hell of a shot on him, remember him being touted as a Midfield Wizard.

TBH I do remember him playing and whilst he was quite a force with a lot of ability, he was always coming back form injury and there didn't seem to be much momentum. I am sure though if we could have had a few seasons with him injury free he would have been incredible. Top bloke whilst we are at it.

I liked him, but knee injuries plagued him (he went to USA for a pioneering cartilage implant.) Towards the end of his time with us, to me, he seemed to play the ball across the park too often. Soon after retirement I recall seeing him in the car park at Boston, but his conversations with players were cut short by a rather angry Phil Bater trying to get the team on the coach and away as soon as he could.

Best player ever to wear the gas shirt imo. Even with his dodgy knee he had everything and you could see why he was touted as the next gazza. His playing style was very similar to his. Would have made it to the top of the English game no doubt.

Did not think he was that good for Rovers to be blunt far better players like David Williams, Frankie Prince, Vitas Astafjevs, Rickie Lambert, Harold Jarman, Brian Godfrey, Matt Lockwood, Andy Tillson, Marcus Stewart, Barry Hayles to name just ten.

But isn't that because of the knee injury? He didn't get enough time to make his mark.

playing for rovers we saw nothing of his ability, he was finished when he played for us, it shows why loyalty shouldnt count for anything with players, taylor had it right get the money in
who knows how your career could end

Are you saying Rickie was just a fat midfielder? As comparing strikers and defenders with central midfielders isn't easy. All I know is that he had bags of talent but a fit Jamie Shore wouldn't have been playing for Rovers, he's have been in the Premier League and playing for England. I see him occasionally, still walks with a limp.

I just mentioned players I rated far higher than Shore. Lambert arrived as an unfit midfielder and was switched by Trolls and improved enough to become a talented Championship striker and ultimately an England International.
Agreed Shore was restricted substantially by his knee problems but for me showed little in the matches I personally saw.

Vague memory of him scoring a very good goal, at the tent end.

Vague memory of him scoring a very good goal, at the tent end. I think that was curled in with outside of his right foot..cant remember who against without looking it up but we ended up with 9 men after two got sent off, including Jason Roberts, and hanging on to win with Barry Hayles at left back

After playing youth football in the Bristol area, Shore was scouted by Norwich City to join their elite youth setup at the age of 12. He signed his first professional contract on his 17th birthday, becoming the youngest player ever to sign as a professional with Norwich City.
Only five weeks after signing for Norwich, Shore suffered a knee injury while playing a South-East Counties youth game against Arsenal which would eventually cause an early end to his playing career.
In 1998 Shore had an unsuccessful trial at Aston Villa. He later signed for Bristol Rovers, where he made his league debut, but his knee injury forced to retire from professional football at the age of 24, having made just 29 first team appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.
**In the 1999-00 season we were in the play-offs and only had to beat relegated Cardiff on the last game of the season and that would have been enough, we lost 1-0 to them and missed out by 2 points.
A row had happened in the dressing room at half time between Jamie Cureton and captain Andy Thomson with the captain pinning JC to a wall threatening to hit him.
In the match v Colchester at home on 11th dec 1999, Jamie suffered a horrendous tackle by Titus Bramble (on loan for just 2 games) on his already fragile knee putting him out for the season, our season went to pot as we never replaced his quality and we gradually slipped down the league, failing on that last game.
We only picked up 9 points from the last 10 games, with our only victory in that time was a 2-0 win v BC82LTD.

Sorry if slightly off-topic. That is actually true though The thing about Browning , was that he worked so hard, he did his 'some bloke' role, incredibly well. There is nothing wrong with being a workmanlike footballer btw. Stewy was the best I have seen.

Gravy was great. Maybe the sort of player that Ollie Clarke could aspire to be. I think Gravy had more innate talent though. UTG.
