The side effect of playing largely settled sides is players don’t get recovery time and get injured.
This is nothing to do with players “not being able” to play twice or even 3 or 4 times a week. I’m well aware back in the day they played more. It just means there are more injuries.
We definitely had less injuries with Darryl Clarke’s sides and didn’t really have a first eleven as such,
I’m fairly agnostic on what’s best as I’m not a football manager. However, I just wanted to show those that berated Clarke for using squad rotation, that this is the primary reason it’s used and expect more of this with a settled team.
I’m not saying it’s right, but there were some unbalanced attitudes which painted squad rotation as some form of stupidity without good reason, and the cessation of which would lead to improvements with no drawbacks.

You need to get the spine right to be able to rotate. The players fans call the manager's "pets", from striker through the middle to goalie who always play. At the moment our midfield needs tweaking but we're getting there.

I probably agree with you in the main. Surely though it depends on having a big enough squad to rotate?

Good comment and a very balanced view. Where Clarke came under criticism for me was because he did it too often instead of minor tweaks. Players then get comfortable with not playing Saturday because they know they'll play Tuesday, examples of this last season were Lines and Bennett who did not perform well yet were then picked. Clarke seemed to be obsessed with it by the end, whereas taking Ogogo out for one game, then swapping Upson, Clarke, etc would IMO work to give someone else a chance and rest a player, killing 2 birds with one stone. GC has brought back 'fight for the shirt' mentality, it's yours to keep/lose. You can see that players have to up their game to stay in, otherwise as Bennett has found, they're on the bench. It's a fair point you have made.

I think Ollie Clarke should definitely be part of the rotation. In his defence he has played an awful lot of football over the last 3 years and has appeared "undroppable" under DC and now GC. But when he doesn't play - I don't think we miss him. IMHO he should not be captain either.

Agreed Sir! Millwall Tone. All day long. It's a position you dont normally have to rotate and Clarke is too inconsistent

Agreed Sir! Millwall Tone. All day long. I know the game has changed but my expectations of a captain are certainly not met but our current choice.

You hear managers saying We have leaders on the pitch.
Am not sure what a captain does in football, aside toss the game.
Can't change tactics during the game. Looks like anyone can talk to the ref.
Think could here a different captain every game.

The other cats were Choo Choo, Brains and Spook. … and Fancy Fancy. p.s. I don't think we should be calling one of our players TC, it's his "... intellectual close friends get to call him TC, pro-vi-ding it's with dignity." - so there's 3 reasons to count anyone round here out.
