It's definitely the most attacking intent I've seen from a GC team but that's not particularly suprising since it's aso the poorest opposition he's come up against yet. Still it was a very positive performance and it's hopefully given our attacking players a bit of confidence which seems to have been lacking from the early games. The fact Smith was taken off with 20 mins left shows that he has played his way into the team for Saturday I think. He looked genuinely sharp and there was some promise in that partnership with JCH. Most promising sign for us was the dominant performance of the midfield and their ability to keep us on the front foot - more of that please. We played with uncharacteristic width, particularly in the first half when Bennett was hugging the touchline much of the time. Be interesting to see if GC has the nerve to try that in a home league game.
I can't get excited about cup runs until our league form improves.
If we draw a blank Saturday what's the point.
We should embrace having a Premiership Club in Brighton at the Mem in a EFL Cup tie as I believe it was West Ham United way back in 2007/08 who were our last top flight visitors in this competition. They narrowly beat Rovers 2-1 with two goals from Craig Bellamy and a reply from Andy Williams.
