This all seems very strange to me. If you really did intend to build a new stadium you would hold a press conference showing all of your pretty pictures of it along with a q&a session with all of the experts involved with the project. The city council would certainly want to comment on the plans in front of them. The rumours were that a new consortium had come up with this idea so has Wael adopted it and going it alone? Oh well, it will keep some happy for a couple of years I guess. Starnes and Wael deep in conversation. Starnes: Wael - you've said nothing since February. Nothing. You can't just expect people to believe that we're working hard behind the scenes, just because you said so 6 months ago. Wael: But what can I say? Starnes: Say you've identified a site. Give no detail around it and hope that gives you another 6-9 months breathing space. Wael: But where? Shall I say "UWE" again? Third time lucky? Starnes: No - I think they've rumbled us on that one. There were some rumours about the old fruit market that we leaked a few months back. Inaccessible, expensive land. But just say that. Wael: FRUIT MARKET. Starnes: No, not to me. To 20man. Wael: Gotcha. Starnes: Brilliant. Job done. Give 'em a vague update just before Christmas and we'll be in 2020 before you can say "credible stadium plan".

Prime real estate the area is a f**kin s**thole. Only s**theads would want to live there and do.

Prime real estate the area is a fin s***hole. Only s***heads would want to live there and do. Oh Kegs, you are a tad trigger happy. Pop down to Avon street and take a look at the new developments, the entire area is being transformed. If that site were converted to residential it would be more likely to attract young professionals than riotous Hartcliffians.

Uncle Eppers has surpassed himself, there. Kegan's just pretending that he's not still living at Mrs Degg's in BS3.

1. Bristol Rovers are an east Bristol club, not a north Bristol club 2. The site is closer to our spiritual home, which is Stapleton road, than our current stadium. 3. Its in a superb location - close to the railway, central and closer to motorway than BCFC and the men 4. It’s in an area of regeneration with the paint works and newly affluent Brislington round the corner 5. The site is compatible in size to our current site and Ashton gate 6. You don’t need independent units to build amenities. The thing about massive stands, is that they’re not build out of solid concrete and you can build quite a lot inside one if you’re clever about it 7. The area is covered with old lumber yards and industrial units which are the cheapest you can possibly buy. It wouldn’t be unthinkable to buy a nearby site to expand parking etc 8. There are no real local residents and those that are very close aren’t tree hugging intellectual eco warriors like on Gloucester Road 9. It’s no more prime real estate than anything else within a radius of Bristol centre 10. It’s a billion times better than UWE.

There's something to be said for some of those points.

I actually agree with all of that (other than Brislington being 'newly affluent') Still won't happen though.

I’ll be able to walk from my current abode in newly affluent Brislington! Never heard it called that before but the centre is certainly shifting East and the whole area around St. Phillips is fast becoming sold and speculated on. It also would give BCC a landmark leisure destination in this area to replace the one torpedoed by Marv last year so I would imagine they would be keen to see this work out.

Sorry but for a non-Bristol resident, UWE would have been much easier to get to. As that won’t happen, Fruit Market would be better than the Mem site but doubt this will happen either!

"It’s a billion times better than UWE."
Why? Unless you live near the Fruit Market I can't see how it's a better site as unless you use public transport to get to the Mem already then it's a pain of a site to get to by car. Plus it's hardly within walking distance of our present catchment area so most fans will have to travel by train/bus/car to get to the ground.

Bristol rovers were formed in a Stapleton road pub which is closer to the fruit market than the mem.

I’ve always preferred city centre stadiums to soulless out of town bowls even if they are harder to get to. Just my opinion though.

I don’t want a load of twats moaning about Jacob Rees mogg and abolishing poverty anywhere near my bevloved team! North Bristol, that part by abbey wood, is a horrible soulless place. It’s wide open spaces with no character. There’s literally nothing there. All post war built stuff other than Frenchay. I find it utterly depressing. At least at the fruit market there are some solid Victorian and 30s estates which have a bit of history and aren’t just purpose built retail and office units. Plus, the traffic there is possibly the worst place in Bristol. I’ve spent most of my life commuting to north Bristol to see the rovers, it’s no problem. The mem is better than UWE. I’d take either, but I never wanted the UWE. It reeks of desperation to go in with a uni.
