Southend United have signed prolific forward Brandon Goodship from National League South side Weymouth. Formerly at Bournemouth as a youngster and had brief spell at Yeovil Town and a few other non league sides including Braintree, Dorchester on loan.
The 24-year-old, who scored 77 goals in two seasons with the Dorset club, joins United on a two-year-deal with the option of a further 12 months.
Goodship is Kevin Bond's first new signing since becoming Southend's permanent manager on 17 May. "Ever since I heard of Southend's interest I was obviously really keen." he told the club website."The last two seasons have been really good for me. Going into every game I felt like I would score if I had the chance."
Should he have been scouted by Rovers ?

More importantly the early signs are that Coughlan is not fishing in that kind of pool. This may have been a DC kind of signing if the money had been available to him. Coughlan seems to be going the 'experienced pro' route and maximising contacts from previous clubs. That hasn't been massively successful for us in the past (we've always seemed to have most success with a core of players on the way up in my time rather than those who have 'made it') but I have to say that it's been fairly promising so far, as long as it keeps going and we don't run out of money to upgrade the midfield which now desperately needs it.

I suppose that this should best be answered at the end of the season, not before a ball has been kicked.

We should just sign everybody. But only people that we could attach a song to. I feel this was a wasted opportunity. "Brandon Goodship, lollipop".
