Thanks for all the reports over the season, Steve. You provide a great service to us all Gasheads who are not fortunate(?) enough to attend many games.

I can’t make any comments on each player but at least we did see periods of attack minded football and it wasn’t the bore fest that I have seen in the previous home matches. Once their huge player get sent off, we did look like a side trying to win. Was great to see Chris Lines get a token few minutes but GC took his sweet time in bringing him on. There were at least 5 times, where the ball went out of play but he was kept warming up for what seemed like ages. As my friend said, we scored the winner once he came on and that was good to see. If Sercombe had been more accurate, we could have had 2 more at least. Really good atmosphere coming from the north stand.

Shame there's no write up, was looking forward to an explanation for the average rating for Ollie even though he started in midfield, was moved to be part of a front 3 but still covering midfield duties at the start of the second half, then when we equalised was put back in midfield and did it all seamlessly.

You don’t let go once you zero in on something eh mate. I know that I don’t have the ability to do a write up. I did draft one but, when reading it back, it read very badly and I was too embarrassed to post it. It certainly changed how I viewed the game and I know it’s not something I could or want to do. I enjoy the banter and chat too much. I think Steve is sound and he has allowed me to at least get some kind of feel, of what type of game we played. It’s been great when I’ve been in hospital or at home, recovering.

Yesterday's performance was pretty good, not just the versatility, also, off the ball he bullied opposition players, he's done this in the past also but has had low marks because he's misplaced a few passes and we've lost the game due to mistakes made by other players. I think, based on what Steve says, he mostly watches the ball and doesn't see a lot of what happens elsewhere on the pitch. But plenty of people enjoy and value his reports, so great, no problem.

When I tried to do a write up I found myself viewing the match in a totally different manner and even had a crib sheet, to count fouls, passes completed and missed and I totally ruined the little enjoyment that has been offered, at home games this season. I didn’t engage in the laughs with friends and it spoiled the day. I won’t be attempting it again. Yes, it’s bound to change the way you watch, it did me. I can’t really comment on Ollie as what I have seen is many players who have made mistakes and the team play very dour football. I think I would only have picked out goalkeepers and goal scorers and, let’s face it, JC-H kept us up this season. If I genuinely was tasked with attempting any anywhere near coherent report, I’d have to sit away from others & lose the reason I go for. I stopped going for purely footballing reasons, a fair few years ago. I go because there are quite a few that I just would not see if not for games & I have missed a fair few goals due to chatting & not really paying attention.

To be serious for once, that's the thing about doing regular match reports, I wouldn't want to try to concentrate on the efforts of each individual player over 90 minutes, on and off of the ball, not at a Rovers' game. Maybe at a game that meant nothing to me, but you would need to detach yourself emotionally to be able to concentrate properly.

So just two draws against Charlton, Pompey the play off contenders and a fine late win over Promoted club Barnsley it was good to pickup an unexpected victory yesterday. It meant our potential club record 12 home defeats was avoided. Plus with our sixth home win at the mem it avoided the least number of home wins in a season which was five set in 2007/08.

I did actually change my original mark from a 6 to a 7 for the very reason that Ollie yesterday gave his all and didn't go missing as he has on many occasions which has always been my main criticism of him. I can only report how I see the game, based on the way I like to see it played both on and off the ball. I prefer a technical footballer to a trier but appreciate you have to have a balance which is our problem in that the triers outnumber the technically gifted players. For me yesterday Ollie gave the ball away cheaply far more than any other player and all the "running off the ball" is lost if you give it away when you get it. For me we need to have one trier Ogogo in midfield and can play only Ollie or Upson if we do this and not both. We need another creative midfielder to enable us to do this and really he needs to have some pace because we totally lack pace in midfield. Because of the way I like football played I would go for Upson but can understand why others would go for Ollie Clarke. This is why I always say my reports can only be based on how I see the game. they are open to criticism and that is fair enough so I have no problem whatsoever with Bamber or anyone else disagreeing with them. in fact seeing the criticism enables me to look at a different angle whiuch surely is the point of a forum. UTG Thank you for your reports, they are excellent to read. Don’t always agree with some of your opinions, but that’s what is good about football, we can all see the same thing differently, such as Ollie Clarke yesterday. Looking forward to your reports next season
