It was indeed woeful. I said before the game that we were more than capable of losing all 3 remaining games but even if we did, I thought that we would still stay up and I still think that now.
It was the manner of yesterdays defeat that was more concerning, it's difficult not to envisage a similar struggle next season.

I honestly think he struggles to deal with tactics and react to what's happening during a game. This would have happened once, maybe twice if Marcus was stood next to him, then it would have been dealt with. Yes, I'll buy that. Stewart the centre forward knows more about defending than Coughlan the lifelong centre back. Coughlan who has played for 20 plus years at several big clubs, probably under some pretty astute managers. Figures when I think about it. [/quote] Any other ideas about why 7 did the same thing, and got away with it, at least 6 times during the first half alone?

We all know that we are old and ugly enough to have seen similarly bad teams in the quarters.
However, I have never been so bored as this season. Genuinely.
I just hate it when managers make lame excuses such as "mental block" and "quality in the final third", when in truth we have no pattern of play from back to front.
What is being served up is the League One equivalent of "walking football".

What is being served up is the League One equivalent of "walking football". I've definitely seen more boring Rovers sides. A few years back before we went out of the league I remember you could hear the hubbub of people chatting to each other while the game was on and it barely registering when the opposition scored. To be fair to DC he did bring back a bit of excitement and even in the earlier part of this season I wasn't so much bored as mildly depressed. When GC started getting a few results together it did pick us all up a bit, but now the need to grind out the last few points, as GC himself said 'it ain't gonna be pretty'. GC seems to have -hopefully- done the job of keeping us up, very much in the same way Ian Atkins did and I can see him being a similar kind of manager. If you were bored this season, I fear for your sanity next season!

His remit (for now) is to keep us up. by extension that means ptotecting his job surely. He said it wasn't going to be pretty in the quest to stay up But did he say it would be frightening? Every time 7 cut inside and had a ball laid square to him we instantly had the cover in front of our left back and our left midfield chasing back behind the ball, our left back tucked in too narrow, big guy trying to pull 2 defenders with him to cover a cross to the back post, our shape was all over the place, all because we rushed out wide rather than showing them down the line and blocking 7's run off. It's this type of park defending that puts you 0-3 down in half an hour at Doncaster. I honestly think he struggles to deal with tactics and react to what's happening during a game. This would have happened once, maybe twice if Marcus was stood next to him, then it would have been dealt with. Bambi, that wouldn't be the 7 Dooley who was substituted off with half an hour to go, you know the one with the 'crowd's eye-catching' blond hair, who was allowed the ball because he was actually causing us very few problems once he had it?

Marcus Stewart didn't strike me as much of a clued-up coach for general play. He didn't seem to improve forwards much either. Ellis, of course, but only fitfully. Any other forwards improve under Marcus?

I didn't mention the quality of the player, just the tactical ineptitude of our management taking so long to deal with such a basic issue that was disrupting the shape of our defence. And no, we weren't letting him have the ball, what was actually happening, as you would know if you were paying attention, was that 2 of their players were going wide, the ball was played there, 2 of ours followed the ball, 7 cut inside, the ball was played infield and our 2 players were taken out of the game. Letting the opposition have the ball in front of you is one thing, allowing them to get behind you with the ball is an interesting tactic, I'll look out for it in future. Ref your comments about Marcus. Give it some thought, you may remember a couple of other forwards who improved here in recent years.

All about opinions. I thought he was their stand out player in the first half and was orchestrating the midfield. Admittedly no 'killer balls' - but then again he had 2 banks of 4 defenders in front of him as we had set up for an ugly 0-0. When we set up like that - we deserve what we get. We had to settle for an ugly loss instead.

Anyway manager worth his salt would have watched rovers and decided that he had to put 2 players on clarke harris and force him on his right foot and make sure if ollie clarke got anywhere near the penalty area to crowd him out.that would negate any chance of rovers scoring because they will revert to long hopeful balls that any defender will gobble up.rochDale did it effectively and just waited for our defence to make a mistake

GC was brought in as a defensive coach and he has succeeded in toughening us up. However, the football is dire. We sit far too deep and there is no zip to our play. Frankly, we are awful to watch. I would bring in a new Manager who can coach a team. We may survive by the skin of our teeth, but only tedium awaits if GC stays in charge. Ogogo sums it up for me. The other worrying thing is the mentality at home BS he came out with yesterday. It is our total lack of attacking threat that is the problem. GC is hamstrung by a lack of attacking options though. Jury is out for me until we see who and what he recruits.
He said it wasn't going to be pretty and we have tried to grind out results and fortunately found a striker who went on a hot streak
yesterday was s***e though. Was almost as if the players thought they were safe in a meaningless end of season game
I think you’re being too kind. Thank god for JCH’s goal prior to this. I really don’t like the thought of us needing to win, in the final game. It really does have that kind of feel to it.

Guess we either don't scout teams or our scouts don't notice things like him taking a D cup bra.

More like retreat as 2 banks of 4.

BBC stats have us with 1 (one) shot on target in 90 minutes. I don't remember who it was. Quite possibly it was one of Lockyers long passes that went straight to the keeper. I do remember their keeper collecting the ball and then comically throwing himself on the floor and taking about 5 minutes to stand up again. He was a fat f*ck*r though.

The shot on target was JCH, second half, from the right side of the area, he tried to curl it into the far corner but didn't get any bend on it and all Fatty had to do was put his right arm out. Nichols stood and watched, had he gambled and followed the ball in he may have picked up the clearance, but he didn't. Do I expect too much? Is this sort of planning, preparation etc just not done at L1 level these days?

Nicholls ran into box towards far post as he should. The keepers block flew out the area somewhere else. A better shot wider of the keeper may have meant it fell into the area Nicholls was running into, then he could have missed. He had a very poor game sat, as did many, but trying to blame him for everything is a bit strong.
Oh, maybe for others, what about the pass from Ollie that set up JCH?
