I first saw Lindsay Parsons play for BRFC in a reserve team fixture at Eastville, on (or near) a Boxing Day in the early to mid-1960s. It was a cold and misty day and I watched the game from the North Enclosure, and felt immediately that here was a young player on his way through the ranks.
I believe that I'm correct in saying that he got his break into the First XI when Alex Munro sustained his awful injury, and he never looked back. But who can forget the composure that he showed when taking his penalty in the Watney Cup final? He was a stalwart of the club's defence for many seasons, and I always hoped that he might one day find his way back to the club when we could have used his encyclopedic knowledge of players to our advantage. Now clearly he had much bigger fish to fry, but you can hope eh?
RIP Lindsay.
