Despite the 0-0 scoreline this was a good solid game of football between two in form teams in pretty atrocious conditions. The wind was always going to be key in this game and that is how it turned out but both teams tried to play football and were a credit to the game. An unchanged team has become the backbone of GC's Management and it was no real surprise after Tuesdays result. It is a great shame that the reward for 10 points out of the last 12 is that we still only stand 2 points out of the relegation places and even more incredible is the fact that we are in 13th place.yet only 2 points out of the relegation zone.
Bonham 7 One excellent save before half time but that apart had very little to do.
J. Clarke 7 Good solid performance but the problem is that whilst his defending is mainly good he gives us very little as regards attacking the opposition.
Lockyer 9 Another outstanding performance containing Lyle Taylor quite easily and putting his body on the line. We will certainly miss him next week at Plymouth and I think it is totally wrong that we have to play one of our most important games without our captain just because the EFL only cancel Championship games or other matches have more than two players called up. It should be able to cancel a game if any team has a player missing.
Craig 8.5 Again the central defence takes the most praise for the clean sheet and Tony was not far behind Lockyer in restricting Charlton to very few chances.
Kelly 7 Kept Holmes-Dennis out of the team and gave a good all round performance .
Upson 7 The only midfielder on anything like his best form , kept prompting and winning the ball and used it economically but really needed some help from the rest of the midfield.
O. Clarke 5 Another poor performance apart from a stunning strike in the second half that looked a goal all the way before going just wide he looked completely out of sorts and struggled to get even straightforward things right.
Ogogo 6 Tried hard but not much came off for him today and he appeared to still be showing the effects of his midweek injury.
Sercombe 5 another struggling performance in an area where we were not at our best today but at least kept battling and unlucky not to score near the end when a fine tackle denied him..
Nichols 6 Some good work holding the ball up but again didn't look likely to score. Unluckt to be substituted as I would have withdrawn any one of Ogogo,Ollie Clarke or Sercombe.
Clarke-Harris 7.5 was involved in so much all game and gave Charlton defenders a tough afternoon. Unfortunately today there was no match winner but it was not for the want of trying. he gives everything and in all honesty is everything that Stefan Payne wasn't. if only we had somebody alongside him who could take the pressure off him by scoring goals.
Subs: Jakubiak 7 Brought some direct running to the forward line and took his chance very well after Clarke-Harris's pass only to be ruled offside.
Sinclair NOLE
Crowd 7 A reasonable crowd for the weather conditions.
Ref 8 One of the best. Took no nonsence.
Charlton 7 A good footballing side who probably shaded possession and yet we had the better chances. the weather conditions really favoured neither team and yet both played their part in an exciting 0-0.
Gc Got most decisions right today and has done a fine job in masterminding good form. can he complete his task and see us safe? I hope he can.
So we move on again to another challenging game against opponents who will fall behind us if we win next week. After last seasons unlucky and unjustified defeat there last season we owe them one and I very much hope we will not suffer because of the loss of Tom Lockyer to International call up.
Was todays game a point gained or two points lost? I am not sure although I think a draw was a fair result. UTG

A point gained and our 4th clean sheet on the trot. The undroppable Ollie Clarke was dog dirt. Again. He'll be one of the first names on the team sheet again next week. Why? Please someone tell me. Why? Seriously, why? UTG.

I would ha e taken a point beforehand and am happy with the point now. Definitely a point gained. Shame that despite being 13th, we ate on.y two points from relegation (well almost three with our goal difference being pretty good).

Steve, I know you post your opinions and of course you should, but Upson? All of those I stand near (and me) thought he was bloody awful today. Ollie looked hungover, Sercombe only woke up with 15 to go and why Linesy doesn't start alludes me.
Tom Lockyer and Millwall Tone though, magnificent.

Are you an Athletico Mince listener, Uncle Eppers? Yes, indeed I am. But oddly enough, it wasn't even a connection I consciously made. Dog dirt. "Sunderland is a f*ck*ing nightmare" etc etc. UTG. (I like Mackems BTW).

I thought all 4 midfielders gave the ball away for fun today but on the other hand worked and battled hard when charlton had the thing.

Upson below par compared to his last two (excellent) showings but THAT ball through to Sercs late in the game, absolutely beauty!

Being an optimist had hoped for a win, but a point gained could turn out to be be a very important point a few weeks down the line, add another clean sheet, we are definately becoming a solid unit and force to be reckoned with.

I think we have to cut our players a bit of slack, unless not trying. Anyone who has played football in that kind of weather knows it's tricky, especially with the modern ball which flies like a bumble bee and comes down like a light plastic Frido on Weston beach. However neither side seemed to realise it was windy and continually hit long high balls, all those asking for Lines to come on to keep the ball down had a point, mind you he has difficulty heading on a normal day.
It was with some trepidation I drove down the M4 and like a lot expected defeat, but celebrations at the end were as if we had won the league. It was a better trip back, listening to Ollie talk his usual stuff on Radio 5 as I joined the "I'll take that brigade" - a point gained for me.

UTG So ollie gets a 5 despite 3 tremendous blocks in our box when a goal looked possible 2 important header clearances that Ellis would have been proud of and several good crosses into the opposition box. Come on Steve take your blinkers off. A gogo was of the pace for most of the match and I lost count of the number of times players went past him without any trouble

To answer your question, a point lost because we're now only two points from the drop despite going up to 13th.

Thanks, Steve192 - good summary as usual - a very good entertaining match considering the conditions - and partly due to a very good referee - oh if only we had that standard of ref every game

Thanks, Steve192 - good summary as usual - a very good entertaining match considering the conditions - and partly due to a very good referee - oh if only we had that standard of ref every game Dean Whitestone was a name I recognised from matches on TV, but couldn't remember him refereeing Rovers before. Four or five years ago he was regularly appearing in Championship games, but more recently has only taken League One and League Two matches. In fact, he was the referee for our win at Fulham in the League Cup and our 1-0 defeat at home to Doncaster last season. Prior to that, he took our 1-1 draw at Port Vale and (um) the Cup exit at home against Barrow. He also reffed the 1-0 home win over Mansfield in 2015-16. Source: Soccerbase.com

Did he get fed up of players on both sides falling over when nudged from behind, maybe thinking wind had blown them over?

Padstow, You are entitled to your opinion but as regards the blinkers on I suggest you check others scores on gas chat and you may see that perhaps it is yourself who is blinkered.

I was looking at those Gaschat player ratings and Clarke was worse rated pretty much everywhere. I think he's been off the pace pretty much all season. But who do we bring on instead? Lines is obviously out of favour (and let's face it can't tackle). I guess we do the best with what we have. UTG.

Not at all steve,i watch what players do when they haven't got the ball or when they do something that isn't glamorous or is a signing from another club,There seems to be a recurring theme in your posts when it comes to certain players try reading back over them and you will see.I watch games that rovers play in the same way I watched lots of other clubs in my career, unbiased,as if I am writing a report
