Looking at tonight's games, there could be a significant boost to our survival prospects.
If we beat Gillingham then we move above them.
Plymouth are playing Shrewsbury, Rochdale host Oxford, Southend are at Scunthorpe and Wycombe are at home to Accrington.
If all results went in our favour, not only would we have a positive goal difference but could end up as high as 13th in the table (but crazily still only 3 points off bottom four!)
Discuss.

I wonder if Gareth might have any influence on the game. Or indeed the other games.

Beeb says rain until 7pm. But there will still be 17 mph winds. It won't be a place for the silky skills. It might suit Tom Eaves and KJT though

Every game is a key game and the benefit of this game over any other is purely psychological.
All that matters is getting well beyond 50 points ASAP
However, I’m with you. Looking at 13th in the table would be nice tomorrow am

A shame that the weather (and cost) will dent away support. Fair play to anyone travelling from Bristol, I applaud you. Fingers crossed it's not called off due to torrential rain. Options: 1. Go to game. Arctic winds. Sat on an uncovered piece of scaffolding on the north Kent coast. Home midnight with a bit of luck. (Miss the 22:21 and you're stranded in Gillingham). Cost: £5.60 tube. + £10.50 3 Beers in 'local' pub, Southern Belle if it's still open. This is most definitely not a gastro-pub. + £21.40 return Stratford Int - Gillingham. + £22 ground entry. One of the few 'stadiums' that makes the Mem look fit for purpose. TOTAL £59.50 2. Watch in iFollow. In the warm. Home 10:30pm. Cost: £3.40 tube + £5.97 (3 beers in Spoons) + £5 shared cost of iFollow TOTAL £14.37 Oh the agony of choice. Surely on nights like tonight Clubs will lose a lot of income due to iFollow availability? UTG.

Looking at 13th in the table would be nice tomorrow am I don't agree with playing it down like that. Coughlan still babbles on about a long way to go while pulling his earlobe and scratching his nose and the back of his neck. Looking at the points total took us out of the league don't forget because it was higher than usual that season. We need to focus on winning the games we have left against the likes of Gillingham because we've got a few tougher teams still to play. I see Barnsley as a tougher nut to crack than Sunderland because they're used to bouncing back up, but know nothing about Luton except that nerves might get to them during the run in.

Looking at 13th in the table would be nice tomorrow am Normally I'd agree with that but I do think that having the opportunity to put so many teams between us and the relegation zone is more than just a nice psychological bonus - it makes a real difference to our chances of staying up. While in the end all our goal difference means is that we need 1 point less than any of our competitors, in such a tight situation it can give us quite a bit of breathing room as you're not just relying on one or 2 teams having a bad run (and hope we aren't one of them). Instead we can more or less bank on a few of these teams having terrible run ins. At this stage of the year would you rather be 3 points and 1 place clear of the relegation zone (with a gap up to the rest) or 2 points and 5 teams clear and a chance to bring others into it as well? I actually think I'd probably just about take the latter for that reason - more competitors is surely a good thing in a relegation battle.

Luton will have a spring in them as they have had their new ground and other building finally approved. I can see that spurring them onto some confident football

All games are important and tonight’s is no different. But having got 3 points on Saturday it won’t be a season changing result either way. Hope to win, will settle for a draw and losing won’t be a disaster. Long way to go, let’s hope we get something and then move on the Charlton game confidently. UTG!

I've thought long and hard about this goal difference. It counts a jot only if you're level on points. I suppose the likelihood of this is high in relegation struggles. So I guess this is likely true, that 'we need one point fewer than do our competitors'.
