Really looking forward to the Checkatrade semi final tonight with Sunderland. I must admit after walking away from St James Park, Exeter after defeat (it was Dennis- Holmes debut) in one of the group matches I and few other envisaged us getting this far in the Trophy. But we are 90 mins from a super day out at the national Stadium live on Sky and a big crowd expected at the Mem ...what's not to like ...Come on you Blues.

Know anyone who wants a free ticket Mike?
Edit: That's a genuine question. I have one available.

Shyster competition, I urge everyone to boycott it and help fund the club in other ways.
Just hope and pray no one gets an injury..

Going to my first game tonight in this competition.
Cup tie against Sunderland with Wembley beckoning, for £12 on East Terrace.
What's not to like for a glory-hunter like myself?
Meeting Father Brennan tomorrow morning for a football confessional.

From an article in Sunderland's local paper under the headline:
How many tickets will Sunderland be allocated for the Checkatrade Trophy final?
...
How many tickets will Sunderland be allocated?
Portsmouth fans have been allocated 39,659 seats in the west side of the stadium. Sunderland fans should receive a similar allocation in the east side of the stadium...
A tad presumptuous me thinks.

Before the introduction of U-21 teams (I still loathe the back-door attempt at getting Prem B teams in the lower leagues) this competition was absolutely fine. A genuine chance for lower league clubs to get to Wembley.
In my opinion the second that all U-21 teams got knocked out this tournament returned to the one we knew in 2007.
The EFL would LOVE a Portsmouth v Sunderland final... so isn't it now beneficial to support Rovers to get them through to the final? The last remaining true L1 team?

The nice thing about this format is one day you'll see a massive club win it, get promoted, then send their development squad in the next season from the Championship..... and probably win that one too!
Ever feel like you're being cheated?

Play well with no injuries would be a win for me. The actual result is irrelevant, we have to focus on staying up!

I can't lose tonight …
Rovers lose = we're out of this Godforsaken competition, my boycott is over, and the team can concentrate on what is more important: the league. Rovers win = my team gets a nice wodge of cash, a bit of media attention, and the players get a buzz from playing at Wemberley.
Right, I will grab a good book and check the score at 10pm.

I was pretty impressed with that half. I thought we had a good game plan and gave them more problems than I was expecting while standing up pretty well to the defensive examination. Don't really deserve to be 1 down but in Mcgeady and Grigg they have 2 players of really high quality for this level and the one bit of classy play created the goal. That pass from Power and the finish was a cut above really. They just look much more confident and assured on the ball in the last 3rd than we do as expected and that's where the difference has been - everywhere else we're more than matching them. We're showing excellent battling qualities, a far cry from the soft touch we've been in some games and we're well in this kicking towards the clubhouse in the 2nd half. Could be a far worse situation.

Two worst times to concede, ever. Killed it as a contest.
Hammer blow losing parts on kick off & having no option for an overlap down that side. Couple of our lads didn’t fancy it neither.
Ah well, onto Saturday it is.
